Unlock the Magic of Reading with READING MAGIC 2!
Transform your child into a confident reader with READING MAGIC 2! This app makes learning to read an exciting adventure with interactive activities focused on CCVC (Consonant-Consonant-Vowel-Consonant) and CVCC short-vowel blend words.
Meticulously designed to provide an advanced boost to your child’s phonemic awareness, this app combines three foundational pillars of literacy science into one powerful, interactive ecosystem: Blending (Listening), Segmenting (Speaking), and Decoding (Reading). Grounded firmly in Science of Reading principles and utilizing University of Florida Literacy Institute (UFLI) guidelines, READING MAGIC provides specific, precise training with extensive repetitions to help young brains bridge the gap between spoken sound units and complete words.
IDEAL FOR BOTH BEGINNING PRE-READERS AND STRUGGLING READERS
For Beginning Pre-Readers: A stress-free launchpad. By practicing words through pure sound sequences first, your child masters the internal mechanics of reading without cognitive overload. This keeps them from being frustrated by trying to learn separate, difficult skills at the same time.
For Struggling or Remedial Readers: If your child's reading is hesitant or choppy, or if they guess at words, this app provides the targeted intervention recommended by modern reading science to help young brains bridge the gap.
THREE CRITICAL SKILL-BUILDING PILLARS
While many phonics programs completely overlook the auditory mechanics of reading, our program systematically guides your child through the complete progression of decoding:
Skill 1: Blending (Listening): Interactive listening activities train your child’s neural processing ability to hear isolated sounds in words and join them together mentally. This builds the vital auditory runway required for future fluency.
Skill 2: Segmenting (Speaking): True spelling and reading independence require the ability to pull spoken words apart into their individual sound units. These exercises build explicit awareness of the acoustic structure of language.
Skill 3: Decoding (Reading): The ultimate bridge to literacy. Your child applies their mastery of blending and segmenting directly to text, smoothly moving from spoken sounds to visual words.
STRUCTURAL SPACING & INSTRUCTION (Science-Backed Layout)
Our app builds the actual findings of reading science directly into the user interface for maximum visual clarity:
Anti-Crowding Design: Peer-reviewed research, including Marinus et al. (2016) and Wery & Diliberto (2017), demonstrates that generous letter spacing is critical for early decoding. By placing each letter on its own isolated card with distinct physical gaps, our layout eliminates visual crowding, allowing your child to isolate each sound unit cleanly.
True Comprehension: The app strictly discourages picture guessing, forcing children to rely purely on their decoding skills to foster true comprehension and build lasting confidence.
INDEPENDENT LEARNING & AESTHETIC SIMPLICITY
Distraction-Free: Our minimalist design eliminates overstimulating audio-visual clutter, excessive sound effects, and animations to keep your child entirely focused on the mechanics of reading.
Stress-Free Growth: Built-in natural feedback loops offer gentle corrections, nurturing self-discovery and independent learning at your child's own pace.
EXPERT RESEARCH BACKING
"Before a child can read fluently with their eyes, they must be able to blend fluently with their ears. Weakness in auditory blending is one of the strongest early predictors of later reading failure." — Dr. Joseph Torgesen, Florida State University.
"Teaching students to blend and segment benefited their reading much more than did a multiple-skills approach... and teaching phonemic awareness with letters created effect sizes almost twice as large as teaching children without letters." — The National Reading Panel (NRP) Meta-Analysis
The concept of this app is superb. The approach is good, the app is well set out with very clear instructions. My reservation in giving this more stars is the clarity of the recordings. Some words do not sound particularly clear when replayed. This app would be truly enhanced if the words were written on screen, and there was the ability to replay a whole word as well as the broken word sound bites.
Developer Response
The instructions and directions for the app have been upgraded to avoid misunderstandings about what this app is trying to teach. The clarity of the recordings has been improved with the most recent updates. The word is not supposed to be on the screen for the first game until after the children have recognized the word. This is intentional and essential for children to not see the word at first so that they can practice blending the sounds of the word into the word. The word and picture appear after the child has blended the sounds together into a word. For the second game, the word must not be written on the screen because the child is spelling out the word auditorially. In the third game, the word is on the screen.
Consonant Blend Helper
Terrific2s
This app focuses on words that use consonant blends. The app uses about 300 words broken down into 23 categories. This app is all about showing how words are made up of sounds. This app shows how to construct words from sounds and how to deconstruct words into sounds. This app has three different reading games as advertised. The first game involves, what reading experts call blending. Children take separate individual sounds and blend them together into a single word. The second game is what reading experts call segmenting. Children take a word and break it down into its individual separate sounds. The third game is a straightforward reading activity. For both the reading and the blending games, the picture is hidden, which I really like. In my years of working with children on beginning reading skills, I have seen children relying a lot on picture guessing. This app helps children practice the basic reading skills with the pictures being used to help the children check their work, rather than distracting them into picture guessing. I like how the pictures will say what word they are when touched. This eliminates any confusion as to what the word is. This app has had an update to its interface since I first used it. The interface is nice and friendly. This app has helped my children build their word reading skills. It has helped them to understand the concept of consonant blends.
Another wonderful app
Deslee2012
This is my second purchase. Those who like reading magic 1, this app will be their second choice. It's layout still the same, but their content are getting more advanced. I suggest to add some sound effect and explanation to those flash card. Beside in learning the correct pronunciation, children must appreciate the meaning of those words.
Misleading
helicoptermomandiknowit
I was looking for an app to help my child with blends. All this app does is provide practice for individual sounds. For a child that already knows the sounds that letters make, this does help with blends. Also, the three sections of this app are all the same, despite being its own "category"--click the square, it makes a letter sound. I am mostly annoyed because I paid money for this. This app is not sophisticated enough to have to pay for it.
Developer Response
The instructions and directions for the app have been upgraded to avoid misunderstandings about what this app is trying to teach. Sounds are the building blocks of words. This app teaches children how to recognize the individual sounds within words and how to put them together to make words. This app focuses on blends. In reality, consonant blends are not actually blends but two sounds put together. Teaching a child lists of the "st" words is ineffective on several accounts. The biggest reason is that these two letters together make no unique nor different sounds. Teaching words with "sh" is different because these two letters together make a unique sound. Secondly, most of these lists introduce advanced spellings beyond the scope of the list lesson. For "st" words, state, star, stapler, and stay all are more advanced concepts than the blend "st" that they are learning. This app has three separate sections. The first section focuses on blending. The second section focuses on segmenting. The third section focuses on reading. These are the key steps to reading mastery. This app is simple in its delivery of advanced concepts that have been proven to help children become excellent readers.
BIG USER INTERFACE UPGRADE The layout has been completely refreshed for maximum visual clarity, ensuring a cleaner, distraction-free environment that helps early readers focus entirely on learning. The Navigation system has been clarified and simplified for easier navigation.
