Finally, someone gets it. I’m in my mid 60s and I recently bought an Apple Neo. I wanted to install simple accounting software to track my day to spending, saving, etc. I had Quicken on my old laptop but they, and most others it seems, have gone to a subscription service. I’m not a Fortune 500 company; if I enter 70 transactions in a month, that’s a busy month. I enjoy entering manually (helps me to keep track of my financial situation) so I don’t need or want automatic downloads from my banking institutions. This is simple and easy to get used to yet it allows for a lot of customization (account names, size and layout of columns, etc). Here’s what impressed me the most: it is a one-time purchase (I started with Checkbook but ultimately decided on Checkbook Pro; easy upgrade) but they give you two weeks, for free, to make your decision. They understand that one must live with the program for a while before deciding if it’s right for them. I’ve had it for 8 weeks now and I like it more and more.

I used QuickBooks for years to run several businesses. A creature of habit, afraid to switch, thinking it would be too much work, and the learning curve would be painful. Boy was I wrong. Migrating my books over to CheckBook Pro was a breeze. I also fell in love with the layout. I can see all my checkbooks in one view without having to open each one, which was so annoying with QuickBooks. Entering deposits and expenses is also a breeze with CheckBook Pro. QuickBooks made maintaining my books feel like a dreaded task. CheckBook Pro makes it so fast and easy, I actually enjoy it. I’ve operated multiple businesses for over 36 years. I only wish I found CheckBook Pro sooner. If you have a small business, do yourself and your accountant a favor, switch to CheckBook Pro. I have no interest in connecting a single app to all my financial accounts - sounds like a credential nightmare! My preference is to enter my transactions manually, this keeps me in touch with my accounts and spending. I want software to act like an account register and allow me to create simple reports.Transitioning from Banktivity to CheckBookPro was straightforward. Many of the screen layouts are similar if not identical. I did not import my data, but manually added my categories, and entered transactions at the beginning of a month. After one month, I am happily switched over.While there are still have a few things to learn, I am very satisfied with the cost and performance of this software. I especially like that this software does not collect any personal information.One note - I did a free trial, but didn’t purchase, last year. You are only allowed ONE free trial, when I downloaded again this year the free trial was not available.
