eGohm
Bücher der Koptischen Kirche
Free · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.
eGohm is the app of the Coptic Orthodox Diocese of Southern Germany. The Coptic word Gohm means "book" — and that is what eGohm is: the books of the Coptic Orthodox Church, in your pocket, at any time, without an internet
connection.
THREE LANGUAGES SIDE BY SIDE
German, Coptic and Arabic appear in parallel columns — verse by verse, paragraph by paragraph. If you follow the service in Coptic and want to read along in German, you no longer have to turn pages. You choose which languages are shown, and in which order.
TODAY'S READINGS, AUTOMATICALLY
The home screen shows what is read today: Vespers, Matins and the Divine Liturgy readings, with every reference from the Katameros and Synaxarium.
Nothing to look up — the app knows the Coptic calendar and the liturgical season and assembles the texts accordingly. For another day, just tap the date.
THE LIBRARY
• Agpeya — the book of hours with all canonical hours
• Euchologion — Vespers and Matins incense, the anaphoras of St Basil, St Gregory and St Cyril, the fraction prayers
• Readings — Katameros for the entire church year
• Psalmody — doxologies, hoos, psalies
• Sacraments — baptism, chrismation, unction of the sick, matrimony, ordination
• Feasts and Fasts — the propers of the church year, ordered by season
• Hymns — over 10,000 Arabic taraneem, indexed by first letter, plus special prayers for feasts and occasions
LITURGICAL CALENDAR
Coptic and Gregorian dating side by side, with feasts, fasts and the turning of the seasons. The eve begins the evening before, as tradition has it — you decide from what hour.
WHO IS CELEBRATING WITH US
Many prayers name the bishops who are present — in the printed book there is only a gap. In eGohm you set once who is at the altar today: number, rank, name and the correct form of address are then right throughout the text, in German, Coptic and Arabic at the same time. If no one is present, those passages simply do not appear.
BUILT FOR THE SERVICE
Projection view sends the text to a projector or screen while you keep navigating on your device. Font size, colour scheme and light or dark mode are a second away — even in the middle of a prayer.
COMPLETELY OFFLINE
Every text ships with the app. No account, no sign-in, no advertising. What you install works in the church basement and on a plane.
The interface language can be set to German, Arabic or English independently of the text languages. Several German Bible translations are available.

eGohm 1.5.0
The Synaxarion
• The book of the saints is here – 180 days from Thoout to Meshir: for every day of the Coptic calendar the commemorations of the saints, martyrs and fathers and the feasts of the Church, plus two introductory chapters.
• In the Liturgy it sits where it belongs: after the Acts, before the Psalm and the Gospel – with the announcement of the day, "Today is the … day of the blessed month of …". The day is fetched automatically, like any other reading.
• Scripture references and notes do not interrupt your reading: they sit behind a small icon and open at the bottom of the screen on tap.
• Every commemoration closes with its blessing, and every day with "Glory be to our Lord for ever. Amen."
• The months from Paremhat to Nesi will follow in one of the next updates.
Feedback that answers back
• Until now you could write but never hear back. The team now replies, the answer appears under "My feedback" – with a badge when something new arrives – and you can write straight back.
• A report can carry a screenshot you may draw on beforehand and, optionally, an e-mail address for follow-up questions. Without one everything stays anonymous, but the history is no longer reachable after a reinstall.
• "Report this problem" now sits where the problem is; whatever you had open is sent along as context.
• Fixed: "Report a problem" from the side menu failed every time on the phone.
Arabic interface right to left
• With the app set to Arabic, the whole interface is now mirrored – side menu, cards, icons and images.
• On first launch the interface language follows your device: an Arabic or German device language decides directly, otherwise the country does (Egypt → Arabic, DE/AT/CH → German), and everything else gets English. After that your own choice wins.
The day display leads somewhere
• On the home screen and in the side menu every part of the day has its own destination: the name and image of the feast or fasting season lead to its directory entry, "Eve" and "Fast" each to an explanation, the date and the empty space to the calendar as before.
• "Eve" and "Fasting season" have their own pages with a share button; the note about the switch-over time links straight to the setting it talks about.
• Second days of feasts and the Coptic New Year period now point to the entry of their feast instead of ending in a "there is no page for this".
Reading
• The display switch (the eye) now also offers the reading languages on pages carrying a psalm or a reading. Before, turning Coptic off there changed nothing – the switch looked broken.
• Readings now default to German and Arabic: those are the two languages they are proclaimed in, and on a phone a fourth column gets tight. Prayers keep all three columns, and one tap brings Coptic back. Existing installations are moved over once – only if the reading languages were never changed by hand.
• Doxologies: a button in the text jumps to the conclusion, and a "Back" button at the end returns you to where you came from.
New and completed texts
• New book "Praise Hymns (Madayih)" with the hymns for Neyrouz and the Feast of the Cross.
• Agpeya: Coptic intercessions added for several hours, and the psalms of each hour grouped into their own section.
• Added: the missing verse of the Neyrouz doxology and further verses, the missing verse (17) of the Sunday Theotokia, and further variants of "Lord, have mercy".
• Text corrections from the review: "Hades" instead of "hell", "Lord Jesus" in the refrains, and a set of spelling and wording fixes.
Privacy
• A new "Privacy" section in the settings holds the "Anonymous usage statistics" switch: all that is counted is how often the app is opened – by platform, version and country. What you read or pray is not recorded, no advertising identifiers are used, and on the web it works without a cookie. One tap turns it off, with the link to the privacy policy next to it.

eGohm 1.4.0
Larger type
• Font size now goes up to 600% instead of 180% – for anyone who needs the text much larger. The slider snaps to steps: fine ten-point steps in the everyday range, coarser further up.
• The starting size follows your screen: on tablet and desktop the text begins larger than on the phone. You can change it at any time.
• The slide show no longer cuts text off: if a single paragraph no longer fits on one page at a very large size, that page becomes scrollable for once – by wheel, swipe or the up/down arrow keys. Left/right still turn the page.
• The "−" and "+" buttons in the font-size menu were invisible against the light menu surface and are back in view.
Baptism and Chrismation
• The rite is complete: the consecration of the baptismal water with "Meet and right", "Holy, holy, holy" and the psalm verses, the baptism itself, the sealing with the holy Myron, the breathing of the Holy Spirit, the communion of the newly baptised and the prayer before draining the water.
• Alongside the exhortation to parents and godparents there is now an exhortation for adults.
• The blessings and the pouring of the Galilaion oil have been reordered, and the sequence of the Chrismation rite corrected.
More new and completed texts
• Agpeya: the 2nd and 3rd Watch of the Midnight Prayer were empty apart from the introduction – they are now complete.
• The commemoration of the departed carries the list of former patriarchs again.
• The communion prayers before and the thanksgiving after have been revised and missing paragraphs added; the Liturgy of St Basil now has its own "Conclusion" section.
• "Communion Hymns" is now called "Distribution Hymns".
• Added deacon responses: "Let those who are seated stand", "Look towards the East", "We hear" and the response for the Pope.
• The text and the refrain of "Our Saviour invited us" have been corrected.
• Aspasmos Adam and the verses for Theophany have been added.
• Many prayer titles are shorter – without the leading article.
The three incense hymns
• "Ti Shouri", "Tai Shouri" and "Entho te ti Shouri" now sit side by side: the hymn that applies to the day is preselected, the other two stay available to look up. Each one says when it is sung.
• They have been added for the Fast of Nineveh.
Text quality
• The Coptic transliteration now follows a fixed rule set based on the teaching text. 19,376 lines in 986 files were brought in line, among them the Saturday Psali.
• The punctuation of the transliterations now matches the Coptic and Arabic source text (1,417 lines).
• The liturgy switcher labels its three variants on one line again and scrolls sideways when they do not fit next to each other.

eGohm 1.3.0
New and completed texts
• Agpeya: the missing parts of the 1st Watch of the Midnight Prayer have been added, as has the Midnight Doxology.
• The prayer before and after Holy Communion is now included.
• The doxologies are now introduced by "Through Christ Jesus …".
• The hymn "Ti Shouri" appears again before the Hiteniat.
• "Make us worthy …" now precedes the Lord's Prayer.
• The Gospel responses now follow the liturgical season.
• Psalmody, Theotokias and Tasbeha have been revised and completed; the doxologies are set antiphonally throughout, so the parts are easy to follow.
Bishops and clergy
• In the Hiteniat, attending diocesan bishops are now commemorated according to your settings.
• New setting "Metropolitans present as well" for the collective form without names.
• The commemoration of the Pope has been corrected: Anba, "II." and "Patriarch" are back in place.
• "Archdeacon" is now used consistently.
Handling
• The main menu can now also be opened with a swipe from the left edge of the screen – the edge strip is wider and works in reading mode too, without accidentally turning the page.
• Long sections such as "Ordinations of Deacons" start collapsed and can be opened when needed; the same applies to links to other prayers and books.
Shared links
• Shared links to app.egohm.de now open straight in the app.
• Opened in a browser, they show a discreet hint about the app.
Text quality
• Many corrections to spelling, punctuation and line breaks as well as to Coptic spellings and the Arabic transliteration – among them "twelve Apostles" instead of "twelve disciples", "Saint Athanasius", and a consistent rendering of the "Amen".
• In the Marriage rite, the German and Arabic lines line up correctly again.
1.3.0 Sep 6
eGohm has been rebuilt from the ground up.
• Reading view completely reworked — long texts now scroll smoothly, even with three language columns
• Text languages freely selectable and sortable
• New liturgical calendar with Coptic and Gregorian dating, feasts, fasts and free choice of year
• Set which bishops are present once — number, rank, name and form of address are then correct throughout the prayer text, in all three languages
• Projection view for the projector during the service
• New in the library: Sacraments (baptism, chrismation, unction of the sick, matrimony, ordination) and the book "Feasts and Fasts"
• Share prayers and readings as a link that opens the passage directly
• Several German Bible translations to choose from
• The hour at which the eve begins is yours to set
• Light and dark mode, three colour schemes, stepless font size
Because the app has been rebuilt, settings start from their defaults — languages, colours and font size need to be set once. Feedback is welcome via "Report a problem" in the menu.
