Bïndo Birding
Birding Between Friends
Only for iPhone
Free · Designed for iPhone. Not verified for macOS.
Bïndo is the bird listing app built for Southern African birding: fast in the field, rich at home, and made to be shared.
LOG EVERY BIRD, ANYWHERE
Bïndo is offline-first: log sightings deep in the bush with no signal, and everything syncs when you're back in range. Start a quicklist in seconds, run a full trip list on holiday, or keep a custom list for your garden, your patch, or your year.
• Quick, trip, custom and collaborative lists
• GPS-stamped sightings with photos (upload several at once)
• Add notes to a sighting: the story behind the bird
• Not sure what you saw? Log an Unknown Bird and resolve it later
• Lifers tracked automatically across your whole history
ATLAS WITH CONFIDENCE
Full support for atlassing: run timed cards, follow the protocol, and submit straight from your phone.
A COMMUNITY OF BIRDERS
Follow friends and local legends, and see their birding come alive in your feed: lifers, rare finds, trip lists, photos and the stories behind them.
• Comment on sightings and join the conversation
• Likes, follows and birder profiles
• Find birders with people search and activity status
• Groups, private challenges and collaborative lists for clubs, trips and mates
EXPLORE THE MAP
See what's being seen right now. The Explore map shows community sightings, lists and photos. Filter by species, time and place, then tap a pin and dive in.
FIND YOUR NEXT BIRD
• Nearby species suggestions based on where you're standing
• Filter birds by traits to narrow down an ID
• A beautiful gallery of your birding photos
• The bird guide at your fingertips
COMPETE (GENTLY)
Areas and leaderboards for your region: day, week, month, year and all-time. Your row sticks while you scroll, and you can filter to just the birders you follow. Seasonal events and challenges keep it interesting.
MADE FOR THE FIELD
• Works fully offline and syncs when you're back in signal
• Battery-friendly adaptive GPS
• A clean, full-screen design that gets out of your way
Whether you're a lister chasing a big year, an atlasser doing the real work, or you simply want to remember every bird you've seen, Bïndo keeps your birding in one place and makes it better with friends.
Grab your bins. The flock is waiting.
more I’ve used Bindo a number of times when in the bush with no cell phone reception whatsoever. Even under these conditions, it opens fast and I can record all my sightings perfectly. Haven’t found any other birding app to be as reliable — or as thoughtfully designed.

Fixes an issue with deleting photos
1.4.11 Sep 19
Fixes an issue with multi-photo selection and Spring Challenge feed card.
1.4.10 Sep 11
A few bug fixes and speed enhancements.
1.4.8 Aug 31
Fixed in this build:
1. Tapping ••• no longer touches your photo library
The ••• menus on lists and sightings were loading your entire photo library in the background just to open the menu, which is why the app asked for photo access at odd moments and could close itself on phones with large libraries. Nothing reads the library now until you actually open the photo picker.
Please test: tap ••• on a list and on a sighting. No photo permission prompt should appear, and the app should not close. Then open the photo picker properly and confirm photos and albums still load normally.
2. Android photo uploads no longer come out blank
Photos uploaded from Android could be stored corrupted and show as blank frames for everyone. Affected uploads are now rejected rather than silently saved unreadable.
Please test (Android): upload a batch of photos to a list or sighting, then view them from another device or on the web.
3. Atlas cards stuck on "Submitting"
Cards that had actually reached SABAP2 could stay showing Submitting in the app forever. The app now re-checks a change it had to skip instead of moving past it.
1.4.7 Aug 10
This update fixes several important issues from recent releases:
- Fixed the app failing to open on older iPhones (iPhone 8 and X era devices running iOS 15 or 16). If your app has not been opening, this update resolves it and all your sightings are safe.
- Fixed photos uploaded while offline appearing blank once synced.
- Fixed photos becoming stuck and never uploading if the app was closed mid-upload.
- Restored Sign in with Apple, which was not working in recent versions.
- Fixed an issue where a failed photo could block the app after updating from an older version.
- General stability improvements around syncing and photo uploads.
1.4.6 Aug 4
Fixed an issue with failed photo & list uploads
1.4.5 Jul 31
Fixed a bug with Apple Sign-in
1.4.4 Jul 31
Our biggest update yet. Here's what's new in 1.4.3:
SIGHTING NOTES
Add a note when you log a sighting: the story behind the bird. Your note appears on the sighting and in the community feed.
COMMENTS
You can now comment on any sighting. The first comment shows right in the feed, so the conversation starts where the birding happens.
A NEW PHOTO GALLERY
Your birding photos in a beautiful new gallery. Tap any photo to jump to its sighting, and tap map thumbnails to open sightings directly.
MULTI-PHOTO UPLOAD
Add several photos to a sighting or list in one go, with clearer upload progress and feedback.
MORE WAYS TO LOG
• Log an Unknown Bird and resolve the species later
• Duplicate pin: log another species at the same spot, straight from a sighting's menu
• Choose English or Afrikaans bird names, with scientific names as a secondary option
A CLEANER, FULLER SCREEN
Headers and the tab bar now slide away as you scroll, giving your lists, maps and feed the whole screen. Areas and profiles got the same treatment.
LEADERBOARDS
Your row now sticks while you scroll, and you can filter leaderboards to just the birders you follow.
EXPLORE, SHARPER
Redesigned filter pills, better pins and thumbnails, smoother map and sheet behaviour, and photos that lead you straight to the sighting.
FIELD IMPROVEMENTS
• Smarter, battery-friendly GPS acquisition
• Gentle haptic feedback throughout the app (tuned to be subtle on Android)
• Faster feed thumbnails and general performance work
AND PLENTY OF FIXES
Sturdier offline sign-in, profile loading hardening, keyboard and layout fixes in the sighting editor, duplicate-free feeds and search, and many more small improvements.
Happy birding. See you in the feed!
1.4.3 Jul 27
Faster startup when you're offline: the app now opens straight into your account without waiting for the network.
• Slow connection warning: you'll get a heads-up when your connection is too weak to sync reliably.
• Unfollow now sticks — fixed a bug where unfollowed users could reappear.
• Group challenges now show correct species counts across all group-based cards.
• Nearby targets: the search box clears after you add a bird, so you can quickly add the next one.
• Sync reliability improvements for list geometry and offline session restore.
1.4.2 Apr 21
Improved offline support for longer offline birding missions. A few speed improvements and bug fixes too.

A major upgrade under the hood. We've rebuilt how the app stores and syncs your data, making offline performance faster and more reliable than ever.
