This app is amazing. Everything I could wish for is here. Multiple emails. All of my folders at my finger tips. The ability to schedule when I would like to be reminded to take a look at my emails (this sounds odd, but truly is a remarkable feature). The only things I wish were here was the ability to create new folders underneath each email service (think, receipts, travel, etc) instead of subfolders underneath existing folders. It would also be quite nice to have a tag system as well so that it would be easier to search for things by tag. Lastly, the not so great - this is no deal breaker for me but the AI features are… lackluster to say the least. There’s nothing truly novel going on. And actually the rewrite options (professional, friendly, etc) do not seem to actually do anything. Like I will type a skeleton email and ask it to change things to make sure it’s professional enough and it does.. nothing. And it seems to disable the Apple AI to make it so that I need to copy paste the email to notes and have it rewritten there instead. Weird. It would also be nice if the AI could be used to sort emails into folders as they are marked done and tag the emails for easier searches. But these are things that hopefully could be added in the future. For now, this is awesome.

My new email client

Over the years I’ve moved from one email client to another for iOS and MacOS. Years ago I started with MS Outlook but found problems (such as its inability to access my iOS/MacOS Contacts). I then switched to others including Apple’s own “Mail” app, and Spark and Airmail. I moved away from them for various reasons and adopted Edison email. I love Edison email’s ability to sort my inbox into “Focused” and “Other” sub-boxes. However, Edison email recently announced discontinuation of support for their MacOS version. So I decided to try Spark again. So far, after a few days, I am very pleased with it. It also sorts the inbox into categories that makes prioritizing easy and also makes quickly scanning and trashing other email very easy. One feature that I find particularly helpful is its use of an email account (that the user designates) to set up and sync email accounts between different devices (iPhone, iMac, and iPad). That obviates a lot of setup work. I was particularly pleased that when I downloaded the most recent version of Spark’s email clients for iOS and MacOS they were able to pull all of the configuration details of my email accounts from my old installations of Spark - making the conversion back to it easy as pie!

I've been a paid Spark user for a couple of years. Before the redesign the app was really solid. More powerful than Apple Mail and less bloated than Outlook it did a great job of managing multiple email accounts. The new client design is far less usable and useful, and the AI, Smart inbox features, and searchable feature set don't make up for missing and hidden features for mail management that are so commonplace they make the app seem like a prototype for people who have never used a mail app. Simplicity is a good goal, but the design team appears to have embraced minimalism for its own sake. For example, I have 5 different email accounts. Switching between those accounts requires that I have to expand the accounts sidebar every time I open a message in the reading pane, and because they aren't labeled, I need to hover over the account thumbnail to distinguish which account to select. This violates well known usability practices. Reply all to a thread is hidden, which causes broken email threads unless you search for that feature, and most frustrating of all, you can't even window out an email, which makes pasting information between messages or refering to something said in a prior message cumbersome. There is no way to see the email list while the reading view is open, and multi-selecting emails in the list isn't intuitive. Frankly, if I hadn't paid for a full year prior to this release, I would have given up on the app by now.

We’ve redesigned the email layout and shipped several notable improvements across navigation, scheduling, and file sharing. New additions: - Share meeting notes as emails via a dedicated button above each note. - Find shared availability faster by pasting a list of addresses into Meet With. - Fetch new messages on demand using the Check New Email button in the sidebar. - See previously viewed emails in a dedicated Recently Seen folder. - Control avatars and preview lines in Settings > Appearance. - Share files, links, and text via Spark using the system Share menu. Improvements: - Emails and cards use a new layout for faster navigation. - Split View now shows clearer separation between the email list and viewer. - Mark as Done and Close buttons have more space between them to prevent misclicks. - Active account names are clearly visible when viewing a specific account. - Unread Cards now follow the account order from the sidebar. - Recent search queries can be cleared by hovering and clicking X. - Snooze, Send Later, and Reminders now support custom times.
