Unless you want to pay for analyzing images and junk, just download chatGPT for free with no tokens. Or Gemini.

You're right that if what you want is a chat app, ChatGPT and Gemini are free and very good at that.AI Actions is aimed at Shortcuts specifically. It has actions that hand back a dictionary, a list or a boolean, so a shortcut can branch on the answer instead of receiving a paragraph of text it then has to parse. It also runs on every iPhone, not just the ones new enough for Apple Intelligence.If Shortcuts automation isn't what you were after, the free chat apps are definitely a better fit.

• New users can try a web search action before choosing a plan. • New Choose Category action: give it text and your own list of categories, and it returns the one that fits. • You may be asked once for an App Store rating after you've used AI Actions on a couple of different days. You can also rate it from Settings at any time. • Settings has a new "Tell us how you use AI Actions" option. It opens an email to us, and nothing is sent unless you send it.
