Aviation Adventures
Reference
$65.00 · Designed for iPad
Aviation Adventures puts the AvAd procedure guide, the fleet's checklists and your training references in one app, for AvAd students and instructors.
Requires iOS 17 or later. One purchase covers you from Private Pilot through CFI.
Procedures
Every procedure in the AvAd procedure guide, with the speeds and power settings for the airplane you pick. Filter by airplane, certificate, stage, phase and progress check. Swipe a procedure for its quick reference speeds, or highlight the ones you're working on. Procedures link to the matching sections of the Airplane Flying Handbook, the Pilot's Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge, the Instrument Flying Handbook, the Instrument Procedures Handbook and the AIM, and many show the handbooks' figures. You can print a set of procedures to PDF.
Study
497 questions written from the procedures, each with the numbers for your airplane, across private pilot, commercial and instrument. After every answer you see the right answer and the step it came from. Questions are scheduled with FSRS, an open-source spaced-repetition scheduler, so the ones you're starting to forget come back first. Each procedure shows as new, learning or solid. A Knowledge Check is scored at the end, and the practice report shows your instructor how often you studied and how you did. A widget shows what's due, and Siri can tell you. Instrument covers the C172R/S.
FAR/AIM
14 CFR, the NTSB and TSA rules, the AIM and the Pilot/Controller Glossary, stored in the app so it works with no signal. Search by word or by section number, like 91.155. Defined terms are underlined: tap one for its definition. It's rebuilt from the FAA's sources for each release, and it's a reading copy, not an official edition.
Aircraft
The fleet by base (HEF, HWY, JYO, OKV and RMN), with call signs and FlightAware tracking, and filing information where available. Interactive checklists for most airplanes, and AvAd checklists you can send to ForeFlight.
Apple Watch
The key speeds for your airplane on your wrist, with complications.
Reference tools
• Aviation calculators: wind triangle, fuel planning, density altitude, wind components, descent planning, glide range and more

For AvAd CFIs
Stan/Eval is in the Study tab: recite each maneuver on the grade sheets aloud or typed, and find the grade sheets and scenarios. There's also an endorsement helper, a flight review and IPC helper, the end-of-course checklist and the final stage check data sheet.
The app doesn't replace instruction or the airplane's POH. It puts the school's procedures and references in one place, so lesson time goes to flying.
more This app is one of my main resources when I go flying, and it has contributed to my success in training. I now use the interactive checklist, which had made a huge difference for someone like me who is hands on. There are so many great features, and I would say this app is like having an instructor giving you important information right on your phone. You will be surprised how many other great resources are built right there and available within the app.

Incredibly convenient for procedure review on the go. The ability to access critical flows in the palm of your hand is a major plus for any student or instructor. I’d love to see the developers integrate visual training aids for IFR procedures, such as animated or live-fly videos of approaches and holds. Seeing a hold or a DP executed in real-time is worth a thousand pages of text and by adding that visual layer for complex instrument work would easily double the value of this app. Highly recommended.
Developer Response Thanks for your feedback! As of the 2026.21 release, the instrument procedures feature visuals from the Instrument Flying Handbook, Instrument Procedures Handbook, and the AIM where relevant. They also include direct links to the relevant pages in those documents to read more about the procedure. I hope this is helpful for you.

End of Course Checklist: share a PDF of every item, with its status, dates and notes, to send to dispatch or your examiner, including any photos and PDFs you attached.
Knowledge test codes: enter the missed codes from your knowledge test report, such as PA.I.A.K1, and see what each one covers in the ACS. They're listed in the shared PDF too.
Apple Watch: the watch app now follows the aircraft you choose on your iPhone.
Weather: vertical visibility (VV) now counts as a ceiling, visibilities such as M1/4SM and P6SM are read correctly, and a report that leaves out its visibility or ceiling height shows as Unknown instead of VFR.
Go/No-Go: crosswind and tailwind limits now count the gusts, and a report without wind says so.
Radio Practice: opening the HEF card for turning off at Bravo Three no longer opens a Pattern Work card too.
Various bug fixes.

Favorites
Tap Favorites at the top left of the Procedures tab to pin the checklists for the airplanes you fly, any calculator, any Reference tool and airport weather, each one tap away. Add them from Favorites, or touch and hold a tool, calculator or aircraft to pin it from where it lives.
Your airport at a glance
Pin an airport's weather and the Favorites button shows it: its flight category, or the Weather Dashboard's Go/No-Go for your rating once you've accepted the dashboard's safety notice. Choose your rating in Favorites.
Airport Weather widget
A new widget for the Home Screen and Lock Screen shows an airport's latest METAR: flight category, wind, visibility, ceiling and how long ago it was observed. The medium and large sizes add the Weather Dashboard's Go/No-Go for each pilot type once you've accepted its safety notice, and the large size says why when it isn't a Go. Touch and hold the widget to choose any airport the dashboard covers.
2026.24 Oct 19
The FAR/AIM is new on the Reference tab: every Federal Aviation Regulation, the NTSB and TSA rules, the AIM and the Pilot/Controller Glossary, with their figures, searchable and available offline. Tap an underlined term for its definition or a citation to go there, and search finds a regulation by its number.
Study is a new tab that asks questions written from your procedures, for the airplanes you fly, and keeps track of what's solid, what you're still learning and what's new. It covers the private pilot and commercial procedures and maneuvers, and the instrument procedures for the C172R/S.
Practice shows the answer and the step after each question, a Knowledge Check asks questions from across your procedures and scores you at the end, and a practice report you can send your instructor shows how often you practiced and how it went.
For AvAd CFIs, Stan/Eval moved to the Study tab, where you study each maneuver and find the grade sheets.
The Normal Landing procedure in the C172 M/N commercial guide now matches the private pilot guide, and Download All in the Reference library shows progress as each document downloads.
The privacy policy was updated and it now lives on ottopilot.llc.
2026.23 Oct 14
Procedures across the fleet were updated to be consistent, and a few were corrected, including the power on stall recovery, the S-turns and the short field landing.
Document Revision Information in Settings now shows each procedure change before and after, with a link to the full procedure.
The stage, phase and progress check filters on the Procedures tab now match the course syllabi. Multi-engine and CFI procedures can be filtered the same way, and the CFI list now includes the maneuvers the flight instructor course teaches.
2026.22 Oct 7
Every procedure now carries the handbook material that goes with it.
Instrument procedures show figures from the Instrument Flying Handbook, such as holding pattern entries and the G1000 unusual attitude displays. Private and commercial procedures show figures from the Airplane Flying Handbook, such as the rectangular course and the chandelle. Tap a figure to enlarge it, then open the handbook to the page it came from.
Procedures also link to the sections of the handbooks and the AIM that cover them: the Instrument Flying Handbook and Instrument Procedures Handbook for instrument work, and the Airplane Flying Handbook and the Pilot's Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge for private, commercial and multi-engine. A document that isn't on your device yet downloads right from the procedure.
The app is 96 MB smaller at the start. The Airplane Flying Handbook excerpt is no longer built in, so you download the handbooks your procedures actually use from Reference -> Documents -> Handbooks for Your Procedures.
The soft field landing procedure for the C172 and PA-28, and the soft field landing item on the CFI Stan/Eval card, now call for a small power increase in the flare, just enough to hear a change in engine RPM, rather than a specific RPM setting.
2026.21 Oct 1
N5273R now has its own checklist, built from its Cessna owner’s manual and the markings on its airspeed indicator.
The N56367 checklist was updated for its Electroair electronic ignition, with MAG and EIS switch steps, an ignition check and an ignition malfunction checklist.
The airspeeds for N430AV were corrected to match its Piper handbook and the placard beside the airspeed indicator.
Siri on iOS 27 can now open procedures and Reference documents in Aviation Adventures. Try “Open the Steep Turns procedure in Aviation Adventures” or “Open the AIM in Aviation Adventures.”

CHECKLISTS
Interactive and AvAd Style checklists are now available for N516AV, N19NJ, N5132Q, N2080Q, N314AV, N56367, N54832 and N734TD. Forty of the fleet's fifty-three aircraft have them so far.
PROCEDURES
• Slow Flight to Cruise raises the flaps above 60 KIAS, or 70 MPH in the MPH guide.
• N2080Q's cruise, takeoff and go around procedures were rebuilt from the Cessna handbook. Cruise leans by turbine inlet temperature, the manifold pressure limit above 15,000 feet and maximum continuous power are on the reference card, and fuel flow and propeller are set on every takeoff.
• N473CM's ignition check shows each drop limit on the switch it applies to.
AIRSPEEDS
• N19NJ's airspeeds were rebuilt from its Air Plains flight manual supplement. Maneuvering speed is 105 KIAS at 2,550 pounds.
• Stall speeds updated for N242AV, N5273R and N61803.
AIRCRAFT DATA
• Flight plan filing codes were reviewed across the fleet: Mode S, equipment, surveillance and PBN against the printed ICAO code sheet at the HEF front desk.
• Potomac Approach reads 128.52 throughout, and the Twin Comanche checklists show Leesburg Tower and Ground.
• N737LX's call sign was updated to AVL417. N24TE has left the fleet, and AVL161 now belongs to N7288Y.
• N54832 shows a Dynon icon on the Aircraft tab.
• The aircraft list follows the same order as Fly Four Forces.
FIXED
The update banner clears itself more reliably once the version it points to has been installed.
2026.19 Sep 13
Eight new calculators: Wind Triangle, Fuel Planning, Cold Temperature Correction, Cloud Base & Freezing Level, Glide Range, Turn Performance, Pivotal Altitude & Va, and Tail Downforce & CG, an interactive look at how the center of gravity changes tail downforce, wing lift, drag and stall speed. True Airspeed is back, the VDP calculator adds a timed VDP, and the calculators are now organized by task.
Interactive and AvAd Style checklists were added for N6341T, N677JA, N24616, N2433S and N7288Y.
The sterile cockpit note on the passenger brief now reads the same on every checklist: no extraneous conversation below 2,000 feet AGL.
Short field landing now reads the same on every checklist: nose lowered to the runway, maximum braking, flaps up, control wheel full aft.
Printed trifolds now show the tail number of the aircraft you printed them for.
Fixed a bug on iPads when clearing the AvAd checklist place marker with two checklists open.
2026.18 Sep 5
Interactive and AvAd Style checklists were added for N46135, N5273R,
N61803 and N242AV. Print Trifold is available for them as well.
Aircraft Updates:

N5187G and N99872 added to RMN
N83581 moved from HEF to JYO
N7728J and N9272L removed
The AvAd Style checklist buttons now show the name of the checklist they
open, matching the name in the checklist list. The airspeeds, briefings
and frequencies checklist is named for all three wherever it appears, and
the power settings sit with the airspeeds rather than below the
frequencies.
Checklist names are set in bold on the header bar, on screen and on the
printed trifold.
The emergency checklists explain the yellow highlighting once, where the
printed booklet does, rather than on every checklist.
The Document Revision Information list now cites Advisory Circular 61-65K
and links current FAA sources for the contractions order and the runway
safety flashcards.

Changed
Steep turns on the PA–28 and C162 add power before trim when rolling into
the turn. The cards had the two reversed. The rollout was already correct.
PA–28 normal takeoff rotates at 70 MPH / 60 KIAS, down from 75 / 65, to
match the aircraft checklist and the takeoff briefing card.
N202CB checklist: normal takeoff climb 85 MPH, soft field ground effect
held to 80 MPH, short field climb 74 MPH, all matching the procedure guide.
N49090 checklist: normal takeoff rotation reads 55 KIAS in the takeoff
section and on the briefing card. Short field still rotates at 50.
Step numbering corrected on nine procedure cards, and three steps belonging to
a different maneuver removed from the PA28R–200 steep spiral.
Quick reference corrections: DA40 short field landing final approach 71 KIAS
(was 64), and C152 and DA40 commercial emergency descent level-off
1500’ AGL (was 1000’). Both now match their own procedure steps.
N2100S no longer calls for a low vacuum annunciator or suction gauge check.
The aircraft has no vacuum system.
Every checklist now directs the pilot to the dispatch binder cover to check
inspections and ADs next due, on the line after the Hobbs or tach reading.
The takeoff brief on the AvAd Style cards shows the takeoff and departure items
in the same order as the interactive checklist. Both views now sort by the same
running order, so a section reads the same way wherever it is opened.
Fixed
Fixed a bug that kept the checklists for N49090 and N2VQ from
displaying.
2026.16 Aug 26
New
AvAd Style Checklists. The printed-card checklists are now generated from the same data as the interactive ones. Size the text, tap a line to mark your place, and jump to a related list or Emergency Procedures from the bottom.
Two checklists side by side on iPad. The split button at the top of a card opens a second checklist and chooses what each side shows.
Print Trifold. Generates a printable trifold PDF from the checklist data, three double-sided sheets with the AvAd logo and print date. Each booklet opens at the largest size that still fits the fewest sheets, and can be adjusted.
N146TC now has an interactive and AvAd style checklist.
Changed
Aircraft with AvAd Style Checklists no longer list the old PDF checklists.
N473CM updated for its Electroair electronic ignition: MAG and EIS switch steps, 40 RPM maximum drop, and an ignition malfunction checklist.
N65637 no longer calls for a low vacuum annunciator or suction gauge check as the aircraft has no vacuum system.
Fixed
Steps in 16 checklists would not stay checked when you came back to them.
Bug fixes within certain interactive checklists that would not navigate to the correct pages.
