ドイツのカール・ツァイス社が製作した大型ドーム用光学式プラネタリウム「ユニバーサリウムIX(9)型」です。名古屋市科学館で2011年3月から活躍しています。
スターボールと呼ばれる球体からは肉眼で見ることのできる9,100個の恒星や星雲・星団、星座絵などを投影します。LED光源(2018年に更新)の光は光ファイバーを通して恒星原板の穴に導かれており、光源の光を効率良く使えます。そのため、本来の星に近いシャープかつ明るい星像を再現することが可能になりました。すべての恒星を自然に近いパターンで瞬かせることもできます。
8台の惑星投影機は日々位置を変える惑星や太陽、月を投影します。惑星の動きや月の満ち欠けはもちろん、日食・月食を再現することもできます。
