This is how the Tesla PW3 management should’ve been designed from the beginning. Excellent app. After a bit of time getting used to the various automations and variables, I was able to achieve 91% efficiency in a 24 hour period. This was on a 9.8 kW system, midwinter, California, when the sun angles were sub optimal. Would really like to see logic that, perhaps, includes something like “if then ands” setting the battery reserve based on charge input to the battery would make the app even more outstanding. I say this only because my system charges at about 20% plus per hour based on a 2 kW per hour input and this could help to ensure that the battery is charged up to 100% on cloudier days based on battery charge input, separate from home solar usage. Something like that. You probably get my meaning but, again, outstanding app. Keep up the great work!

Great insight into photovoltaic system management
Satisfied Seattle user
Despite the hefty subscription fee, I think this app is worthwhile to me because it is the only way for me determine if any particular array of solar panels connected to my Tesla Powerwall 3 is working or not; Tesla’s own app does not provide this information. I also find the dashboard quite helpful to visualize home electricity use over the course the day and what power sources (solar, Powerwall, grid) are utilized at any given hour. The estimate for daily solar power production is reasonably accurate (at least for a large metro area such as Seattle with data on average sun exposure per hour per day) assuming that one enters correct data on the orientation and angle of each array and accounts for relative shading. All in all, this is a well-done app that provides a good service to Powerwall owners.

This app is OK at Best

The automation feature lets you automate your times and that seems to work ok; however, it doesn’t override the Tesla app sometimes and you find that your T-walls are sending power back to the house when it’s supposed to be charging. Another thing when I set the app to no grid charging it still grid charges I hate that, because that’s what the solar panels are for. It doesn’t eliminate grid charging when told to, the system keeps charging off the grid. Also, it takes a while for a person to comprehend the commands if you’re not tech savvy. I don’t know why there’s not an AI function/option that would adjust your settings per the weather in your area for that day and run the best case scenario charging/energy distribution for maximum electricity bill savings. Overall it’s an ok app, it took my energy from 75% grid dependency to around 45% on average daily with a few 25% days.

Thanks for the feedback. Powerwall will always charge from the grid when its state of charge is below the backup reserve, even if Grid Charging is disabled. This is a change Tesla made and is out of our control. The AI control you describe is how Tesla's Time-Based Control works; Netzero cannot provide a feature like that because of lack of Powerwall control.Feel free to email us at feedback@netzero.energy to help with automation reliability, there are no known issues there.

This is the only app on the market that allows you to control your Powerwall with the granularity that should have been offered from Tesla in the first place. Living in California with TOU rates, this app allows me to pull only from battery when my peak utility rates start, and powers my house until midnight when my super off peak rates start. I then charge the power wall and my EV at the lowest grid rates until 6am. When the sun comes up I sell back my surplus solar to the grid, and because I’m still on NEM 2.0, I’m making good money selling back. When the developer announced they were going to start charging for this app I was glad to support them. The app works reliably and while the UX could use refinements, it’s a great start. Keep up the great work!
