I have had this app for about 2 weeks now and have been using it daily. There’s definitely great engagement by gamifying it by hitting your daily “speaking goal”, which you set for yourself. From my experience speaking languages I’ve learned has always been difficult. There’s this freeze thing that happens, that many language learners I know experience. The use of this app over a short amount of time has already improved my confidence in speaking and pushing through that freezing barrier. The more you speak to Kippy, the more Kippy understands. Even when I feel like I didn’t pronounce something entirely correctly, Kippy seems to understand and gets my point. I love the options to make it easier or difficult with conversations so see the translations and suggested responses or not. I’m currently learning French, and I can’t wait to practice more every day and then put everything to the test in my French classes. I think this app is a perfect supplement to formal classes.

Most language apps just gamify memorization but that is not the key to understanding a new language understanding a new language requires full immersion, and it’s very difficult for Wen to fully immerse themselves remotely, unless they are hiring a tutor and talking to this tutor for extended periods every single day this is the next best thing because I can add my hands. I have an infinitely, patient AI tool that can talk to me in proper Spanish and I won’t feel the embarrassment of trying to speak back to it in Spanish and I can have extended conversations and increase my listening comprehension so this tool is really fully designed to leverage AI to have a personalized learning experience for any language I absolutely love it. Thank you.

I signed up for a month. I figured I need at least a month to really know if I like it and if it works. I’ve done it for about 30 minutes now. It really jumps right into it. No idea what it’s saying. But I put translation on so, I’m starting to get the hang of it. And it gives you ideas of what to answer back which I like. Again, the verbiage is still pretty advanced for me, but in real life, I feel like this is how people would talk. They would just start talking so it’s better mess up here than in real life.

Let me first state the positives:1. Prompts and conversation feel natural2. Responses are very specific and quite impressive 3. Lots of categories for a variety of situations Here’s the problem: The voice recognition software is pretty terrible if you’re not a native speaker. I’m an intermediate Brazilian Portuguese speaker, and when I speak to others, I’m relatively understandable. Unfortunately, the voice recognition software gets what I said wrong almost 80% of the time, and it’s guesses as to what I said make very little sense. Before one of the developers can ask, yes, I do know how to delete a response and re-record it. After trying 3-5 times, and then each time it gets it progressively more incorrect, I can safety say that doesn’t fix the issue. Not sure how difficult it is to get the software to better understand non-native level pronunciation better, but that’s what it would take for me to come back and use it. I might just consider trying to find a person to practice with instead.
