I have used EVERY Single note app out there. Trust me. Goodnotes, Notability, Noteshelf, Zinnia, Nebo, Noteful… etc. Noteshelf isn’t perfect, but it is the closest thing to it. Best pencil and natural handwriting experience, (seriously, I don’t know how Goodnotes devs sleep at night with the chicken scratch their app produces no matter what) - and the most versatile options to add things. The only improvements I could ask for would be better consistent loading of many bookmarks (I sometimes have to reload which takes all of 5 seconds for them to all show up) and I personally would prefer the color choices for the pencil UI to be tucked away anywhere other than a floating window that annoys me. Oh, and the widget could use improvement both in selecting which notebook and the image showing up in said widget. That’s literally it. Those three minor issues are the only issues I have compared to my litany of frustrations with other apps that I won’t waste time listing here… (looking at YOU Notability with your inability to apply multiple templates per 1 note STILL??). But really. Thank you Noteshelf people. Your app is literally my second brain, my journals, all my notes, my diaries, and inseparable from my daily routine. Please keep being awesome.

Prefer Noteshelf 2
He’s_Watching
I’ve been using Noteshelf 3 for about 2 weeks now. I use it primarily for work. I had no migration issues from Noteshelf 2 as opposed to other users and the instructions were relatively easy. I even had a question regarding a feature and customer service responded within a few days therefore, my experiences are much better than several other reviewers. I simply prefer Noteshelf 2 to Noteshelf 3 for a couple of simple things that I’m sure they can fix. 1) I can no longer name my bookmarks. I use Noteshelf like a regular book and I do a lot of reading along with note taking. When I use bookmarks, I name them so I can easily look them up. Noteshelf got me through two Master’s degree’s with this feature. 2) Selecting pages: I used to be able to move/re-arrange multiple pages simultaneously. I am no longer able to do that which takes up much more time. 3) I’m unable to touch the 4 squares in the corner, view multiple pages simultaneously (more than 3 or 4), and quickly find the page I am looking for, as I can in Noteshelf 2. Noteshelf 3 added some features like AI, but at a cost of taking away some very simple and useful features. I’ve been using Noteshelf since the original and will now have to consider alternatives as one day I’m sure Noteshelf 2 will all-of-a-sudden stop working with a future update. It was good while it lasted. I’ll keep using if these features are added.
7.99 a week?!?
jek36jjjjj
Update 2: the developer completely missed the point of my complaint which is that *weekly pricing is predatory and not customer-friendly in the slightest*. Nobody is going to use the app just for a week and by the time you pay for a month at that pricing you might as well have just paid for a year. Stop trying to nickel and dime users, give a longer trial period, and have fair monthly...*monthly*...pricing (note: the old 9.99 a month pricing was not fair). And shame on Apple for even making weekly pricing an option for developers to fleece customers!Update: Downgraded to 3 stars because weekly pricing is predatory and the company should be ashamed of making the weekly subscription the default choice. You are now the most expensive option of the established apps. The new pricing is making me consider dropping this app no matter how much I like it. Just shameful.Old review: Changed my review to 5 stars with the latest cover update. Not only did the team restore the default covers that were so good but they added a whole new selection of gorgeous covers in a new section in templates. Another review lamented that there were no AI features like quizzes and I say keep them away! Notability and Goodnotes are trying to do everything and they don't do anything particularly well anymore. Noteshelf is gorgeous and a pleasure to write in. Keep up the good work team! You've come so far from v1 and the odd shelf UI from which the app gets its name.

Improved but needs a little more
Lifestyle Contractor
The app is a little better than the Noteshelf 2, however it could go a little further. I have been with Noteshelf since the first version and I see the change. One of my pet peeve is not having the ability to draw lines or rotate items on the 0, 15, 30 90 degree angle "easily". I think it should have a free and a set option. Rotating something 90 degrees should be easier, not fighting with the 1 degree off. It should have a flip / mirror option. Those are just two things I fight with on the regular. It has other things that could use adjusting but over all it is a good app. I have tried others and they have features that this one doesn’t, but I find myself using Noteshelf the most. Hopefully a rep from NS will read this…..when you upgrade and import the books, does it convert the old book to a new one? Or does it modify the old book. Do I now have 2 copies of the book? If so can I sadly delete the old book? My books are large and contain lots of pictures and audio thus it takes up a lot of space. Definitely need to know this info before I run out of space and find out the hard way. It you have made it this far in my review…… the app is worth it. I would buy it again.
Developer Response
Thank you for your detailed review and feedback! We appreciate your loyalty as a long-time user of Noteshelf. We will definitely take your suggestions into consideration for future updates and improvements. As for your questions about migrating books, pls take note that it'll create a new copy itself. The old copy inside NS2 will not be modified. You can safely delete the old books in NS2 once you have confirmed that the new version has successfully imported the books. Feel free to send us an in-app email via the 3-dot icon on the main Shelf→Settings→Noteshelf Help→Compose icon→Send Email option if you have any further questions, so we can suggest accordingly.
- Fixed crash faced by some users on app launch.
- You can now switch languages in the Template Store to view templates in your preferred language. Browse templates in English, Simplified Chinese, Japanese, or Korean. More languages coming soon.
- Other minor bugs and performance improvements.
