Welcome to Video Assist 2.0, the biggest update ever! What’s New: • Introducing Compositing! Load Images or Videos from the Current Project or from an External File to be used as an overlay. Perfect for Matching Shots, Shooting Complex VFX Sequences or Previewing a Client Logo On-Set. Composite over Live or Playback Video using different Blend Modes. Use the Fade, Wipe or Transform Tools to do precise line ups. • Introducing LUTs! Use the LUT Mix Feature to dial in the intensity of a LUT. Supports 3D LUTs via .cube files using 17x17x17 and 33x33x33 sizes. • Introducing Focus Peaking! Supports Color and Luminance Overlays. The Luminance Overlay is sometimes referred to as ‘Peaking’ by Other Manufacturers. • Introducing False Color! Supports ARRI, RED and Atomos False Color Modes. • Introducing Zebra Patterns! Some USB Capture Cards may introduce a color shift to the image, this is common in cheaper HDMI Capture Cards. Use Input Calibration to correct this color shift within Video Assist. Calibration applies to Live Video, Playback Video, Compositing, Frame Grabs, Video Thumbnails and Frame Grab Thumbnails. • Introducing the Sidebar! Video Effects can be moved to the Sidebar for easy customisation while viewing the Live/Playback Video Feed. All Video Effects can be in the Sidebar at once, making tweaks much quicker when using multiple Video Effects at the same time. • Record Videos in ProRes. This is now possible as the Recording Pipeline has been re-built from the ground up. Supports ProRes 422 Proxy, ProRes 422 LT, ProRes 422 and ProRes 422 HQ. Improvements: • The Video Pipeline now runs via Apple’s Metal Framework. It is recommend that your iPad has an M1 chip or newer. If you experience dropped frames in Live/Playback on older iPads please ‘Disable Metal’ in Settings. • Added Record Trigger for the Sony Burano. Requires ‘Record Trigger Accuracy’ to be set to ‘Accurate’. • Apply Custom Bitrates when recording HEVC and H264. • Audio Codec and Audio Sample Rate can now be customized for recorded videos. Supports AAC and Linear PCM. • The Current Project and USB Capture Card Info will now be written to the metadata of recorded videos. • The Project List can now be refreshed. This will restore projects that are stored ‘On My iPad’ or in ‘iCloud Drive’ that are not showing in the Project List. • Improved the performance of Computer Vision Record Trigger, it will now function the same using less system resources. • Added support for 11” iPad Air (M3), 13” iPad Air (M3) and iPad (A16). What’s New: • Projects can be recorded to an External SSD. • Projects can be recorded to iCloud Drive which allows you to easily share footage with collaborators. • Manage Projects by copying, moving or deleting videos and frame grabs from On My iPad, iCloud Drive and External Storage. • Color Correction has been updated with controls for Red, Green and Blue for precise White Balance tweaks. • Mask Overlays have been updated to support X and Y Offsets. • Transform has been updated with Quadrant Presets, this allows you to quickly zoom in to full screen when using a Quad Split to display 4 Camera Feeds. • Histogram has been updated to allow for selection of a target area. By default the histogram will analyze the entire image, this includes the status info which can impact the accuracy of the histogram read out. Best practice is to use the new target area feature to target only the actual image region of the video feed. Both RGB and Luma Histograms support this functionality. • The computer vision model that powers RED Record Trigger has been updated, it is now trained on 3x as many images which provides more accurate detection of rolling / not rolling on a wide array of RED Cameras. • Video Assist will correctly recognize the M4 iPad Pro, M2 iPad Air and the iPad Mini (A17 Pro). • Remaining Record Time is now more accurate. • Fixed issue where the current shot details would disappear when renaming a project. • Fixed issue where it would be difficult to tap an existing value for Episode, Scene or Shot. • Fixed issue where the sort order of Existing Episodes, Scenes or Shots would not sort correctly for numeric values. • Fixed issue where the duration of existing clips would not show if you transfer Video Assist to a new iPad via an iPad Backup. • Fixed issue where an Error Alert would not dismiss when tapping the OK Button. • Various UI Tweaks to ensure compatibility with iOS 18. • Various other bug fixes and performance improvements.

What’s New: • Contact Sheets now have an option to adjust Sort Order and Image Quality for more flexible output options. • The Dimmed Video Overlay will now automatically disappear after 5 Seconds when toggling Full Screen, Screen Lock or the Full Screen Toolbar. This prevents the overlay from staying on indefinitely when accidentally tapped. • Fixed issue where on-screen buttons may not work when a Scale Transform is applied. • Fixed issue where Contact Sheet Page Count would not reset between exports. • Fixed issue where Contact Sheet Subtitle would default to ‘Today’ instead of the actual date. • Added ‘Roland UVC-01’ to list of Verified HDMI Capture Devices.

• Introducing Contact Sheets! Easily generate Contact Sheets from Frame Grabs. Contact Sheets can be created for an entire Shoot Day or you can manually select specific Frame Grabs to be included. Customise your Contact Sheets with a Title, Subtitle and Logo. Supported file types for logos are .heic, .jpeg, .tiff and .png. • Fixed issue where Metadata would not update for the following shot/take when changed during recording. • The Audio Meter Output for Live Audio is now processed on a background thread. This should fix a crash that some crew members experienced in certain situations.

• Introducing Metadata! Assign Metadata for Camera, Episode, Scene, Shot, Take and Notes. Takes will auto-increment and can be set as a rehearsal or reference. Shots will intelligently match with Episodes and Scenes. Quickly select from Existing Episodes, Scenes or Takes. Stay organised by keeping detailed notes on a shot by shot basis. • Introducing the Playback Filter! Easily find any take by filtering through all recorded media for a project. Filter by Camera, Episode, Scene, Shot, Take, Notes or Rating. Filters stack with one another to find exactly what you’re looking for. • Video Out via USB-C to HDMI will no longer underscan the output. This ensures full screen output on external displays. • Video Thumbnails have been updated to show metadata. • Keyboard Shortcuts have been updated to support metadata input.

What’s New: • Introducing Keyboard Shortcuts! Connect a keyboard via Bluetooth or the iPad Smart Connector to control recording and playback. Hold the Command Key to see a list of all available keyboard shortcuts. • The Computer Vision Models that power the ARRI and Sony Record Triggers now have an accuracy option via Settings. The ‘Accurate’ Option is ideal for most circumstances. The ‘Fast’ Option fixes stutter on the video output when using Record Trigger and Video Out at the same time on older iPads. • The frame rate of the USB Capture Card is now monitored in real time and compared to your Target Frame Rate. If there are a significant amount of dropped frames a warning indicator will show in ‘Video Input’. • Debug Settings now include a Frame Rate Overlay to monitor the current frame rate of the USB Capture Card. • Removed ’23.976’ and ’29.97’ Frame Rates from the list of available options.
