Marquis’ new X2Pro5 software has been designed to integrate Final Cut Pro projects into a professional audio workflow, enabling Avid Pro Tools to be used for audio finishing. It works by converting the exported Final Cut Pro XML into an AAF file, which Avid Pro Tools can then open as a session, delivering seamless integration between the two applications.
X2Pro5 is a complete rewrite of Marquis’ popular X2Pro Audio Convert software, bringing with it native Apple silicon support and a redesigned user interface, along with support for the latest FCP XML, version 1.12. X2Pro5 takes advantage of the innovative metadata-based organising features in Final Cut Pro, with expanded role management allowing unlimited numbers of audio roles in Final Cut Pro to be converted into Pro Tools tracks for further audio processing and finishing by the audio engineer.
X2Pro5 has a simple, straightforward interface and is easy to customise; for example, you can decide if you want to include disabled or inactive clips in the export, and you can choose the length of frame handles. The software provides a fully professional audio workflow for Final Cut Pro editors, enabling a very complex audio timeline to be sent to the Pro Tools audio engineer with ease. X2Pro5 faithfully translates your audio timeline along with L-cuts, J-cuts, transitions, levels, automatic gain and fade handles, as well as the incredibly powerful FCP X compound and multicam clips. Transitions are converted into linear cross fades. Audio media can be any QuickTime supported audio, non-PCM audio is converted to PCM at either 16 or 24 bit.
With immersive audio technology continuing to grow in popularity, X2Pro5 provides a quick way for FCP users to be able to deliver a project to an external Pro Tools audio editor, sharing the FCP XML file so they can mix – and deliver – multi-channel audio.
IMPORTANT NOTES
R3D media is supported. For Canon content, as there is not method available to us to extract audio from Canon files we recommend rendering an off-line or proxy version of the flattened video and exporting that if a reference is needed within Pro Tools. Only audio media is translated by X2Pro5.
X2Pro5 supports the use of 32-bit floating point audio, however there is an issue within Pro Tools that causes Pro Tools to fail when it tries to open an AAF that uses 32-bit floating point audio. We have therefore set X2Pro5 to convert this audio into 32-bit integer to allow the content to pass through. Once Avid has fixed the issue in Pro Tools, we will be able to re-enable the true floating point workflow.
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
• Final Cut Pro X and XML from 1.7
• MacOS 13 Ventura and later – X2Pro5 is tested on the latest release OS and the previous release
• Pro Tools v7.0 or later for AAF import (not LE versions, v7 and v8 require DigiTranslator for AAF import)

Unusable for Mixed Framerate Sequences
F. Aguirre
X2Pro5 works well if all your media is conformed to a matching framerate before importing into FCP. Since so much of my work is in documentary, I often deal with mixed framerate projects (timelines/sequences) because FCP autimatically conforms media seamlessly and automatically.I recently worked on a series that was picture-locked and needed to be prepper for sound and color. These were not complex timelines, but had a mixture of original footage as well as archival and stock. The original media was 23.976 and the stock/archival was 29.97. X2Pro5 spit out AAFs with countless synchornization errors and we ended up using stems for the mix instead. It's a great app if you work in FCP with original media and matching framerates, or you're a content creator. Perhaps there's a way for the developers to add an option for conforming embedded media to avoid this. Until then, I'm not sure I would use this app again in my workflow.

Brilliant and Essential
Dev Benegal
The app worked flawlessly for a film we have just completed. The film was complex, with mixed frame rate media of all kinds being thrown at it. Exports to both Pro Tools and Logic Pro have been perfect. The sound editors, sound designers, and the sound mixing team could not have been happier. For anyone working in Final Cut Pro (and yes, it is much maligned, but an excellent NLE for complex projects, long form and short form!) this app is a godsend. I like the design and UI. Most importantly, IT JUST WORKS! A special note: The customer support is an 11/10. The team at Marquis Broadcast were very responsive to all the initial issues we had. I was pleasantly surprised when they followed up a while later to check how the editorial team was doing. Now who does that!! Highly recommended and worth every penny.

Thank you for the kind review, that’s great to hear, and on such a complex project too! I’ll share your comments with the Marquis team when I’m back in the office on Monday - have a lovely weekend in the meantime!
This software is a total ripoff.

Happy to pay for the software if it works, but my sound designer has had so many missing files, I’ve spent hours watching videos and trying to troubleshoot with the same results. Don’t waste your money. At the end of the day we ended up exporting WAV Files and bringing them in! Do not expect this to work as it should!

Synch problems everywhere

I just purchased this production and can't even get a 1 minute test to work. Nothing lines up. And to make matters worse they don't actually have any customer service or a way of contacting them. Writing this review in hopes that they reach out to me.
