I miss imperfection. I miss being able to see the artist’s hand behind their work. I do not accept that the digital tools we use have to hide these things, even in lettering. Let's celebrate the artistic rendition of information, together. Let's remember the struggle of exact character placement, the misadventures of substituting a zero for an O, the beauty of a printed font catalog, and the tactile sensation of using rub-on lettering in an era well before the phrase "Desktop publishing" meant anything other than what one did on a desk.
