تأسس نادي الاخدود بقرار من الرئيس العام لرعاية الشباب الامير / فيصل بن فهد بن عبد العزيز رقم 1153 تاريخ 3/8/1396هـ برئاسة الامير سلطان بن احمد السديري.
تم اختيار شعاره من ثلاثة ألوان هي الازرق السماوي واللون الابيض والاسود كان في البداية النادي تابع لأندية منطقة عسير في البداية تم استجار مقر للنادي في حي ابا السعود وبعدها انتقل الى حي الفيصلية حيث ضم عدد من الشباب لممارسة الهوايات الرياضية عامة ولعبة كرة القدم بشكل خاص وتطور العمل وزاد عدد الشباب المقبلين على الالعاب انتقل الى مبناه الجديد (الحالي) عام 1402هـ.. حيث تم التعاقد مع مدربين في عدد من الالعاب منها الكرة الطائرة واليد والسلة.
