Make pre-pro planning more efficient with greater creative control.
Artemis Gallery exists to improve the quality of your pre-pro planning and give you your time back.
Turn ideas for shots into a clear, shareable storyboard or shot-lists in seconds. Start on your iPhone, finish on your Mac, and keep everything in sync in real time.
Built for directors, cinematographers, producers, ADs, and pre-production teams who need to move fast without sacrificing precision or continuity.
• Build a complete shot-list for a scene on your Mac at night, then review and tweak it on your phone in the van on the way to set.
• Make detailed Shot-Plans with all the technical requirements to execute complicated shots.
• When the location changes or equipment changes, update your boards and push the latest version to your director, DP, AD, and production designer instantly.
• Combine framing and sun-path data so you know exactly when a backlit wide, a profile close-up, or a silhouette will work best at that location.
That means less time chasing files and more time making creative decisions about blocking, coverage, composition, and pacing.

About Artemis on iOS
Released in 2008, Artemis is the world's first digital directors viewfinder for smartphones and redefined how films are planned and shot. For this reason it received the 2018 Emmy Award for technical achievement and the British Society of Cinematographers Bert Easey Award in 2024 for its contribution to the craft.
Integrated tools
Artemis Gallery connects directly with Helios, so you can pull accurate sun-path data straight into your shot planning. See how natural light will hit a location at a specific time and date, then lock that information into your boards and production documents.
Use it to:
- Schedule scenes around the best natural light for each setup
- Plan coverage that matches the sun’s position throughout the day
- Anticipate where you will need negative fill, diffusion, or additional units long before call time
With Artemis Gallery you walk onto set one step ahead.

Good Idea but Frustrating and Shouldn’t Even be Needed

I’ve been using Artemis for a year or so and found the viewfinder feature very handy on scouts and on set. The thing I’ve always hated about Artemis is the management of photos, scene folders and projects. It’s clunky and quite often changes to scene info just doesn’t take. When it does take, it seems to take a few minutes to record the change, so in a moment on a scout I’m never sure if my changes are going to stick. So when I downloaded Athena, touted as a management system for all of the data out of Artemis, I was pretty excited to be able to manage the folders and projects on my laptop and have everything sync up. If Artemis is going to be rubbish at managing the project info, it’s good that there would be an app that does that side of things well. I even use Artemis enough that I would be willing to pay a monthly fee for Athena.Alas, Athena struggles in the same way that Artemis does. The interactions with scene folders and projects is clunky, limited, and doesn’t seem to accept changes half the time. Cloud sync seems completely broken on my end (maybe it’s just taking an absurdly long time). I spent an hour with the app and couldn’t figure out how it’s supposed to be an improved experience over Artemis in any way. At least there’s a trial period and I didn’t actually waste my money on trying this.Just fix Artemis to be snappier and more consistent in the project management aspects.
Frustratingly slow with changes and funky exports

Artemis is probably one of the best Director viewfinder apps hands down, but its file management needs some desperate work. This app doesn’t seem to do well in this department either, which makes it almost unusable. Moving around shots can sometimes not just happen even if you follow the instructions, and one wrong move can delete photos from scenes permanently without warning. Even exporting shot lists/ storyboards, it can be buggy by combing different shots from other scenes even if you select only the photos in your desired scene. This app could have been a great addition to preproduction, but until it has its file management system fixed, I can’t use this without getting extremely frustrated

Doesn’t work

Just wouldn’t open on my computer. Very disappointing because the Artemis app is so clunky when it comes to organizing the shots

Artemis Studio has been rebuilt from the ground up and is now fully macOS native.
That means a smoother, more natural experience for you, including:
- More natural keyboard integration, with controls that feel responsive and familiar from the first keystroke
- More natural mouse integration, with precise cursor behavior and fluid interaction that matches how macOS expects tools to work
