Love the ease of set up with the IOS system & iPhone collaboration capabilities, finally. Many of the former portable back up disks or flash drives have faulted deeply with claiming great back up capabilities when in fact they all have failed until now that I’ve purchased the SanDisk Extreme portable SSD next gen. One downside though is - the SanDisk app should be easier to connect to the iPhone apple file as an auto connection each and every time the device is connected to the phone. Not just the first time. Suggestion for an even magnificent experience: The connecting usb-c cable opening should be better secured when the cord is inputed for connectivity. It is mostly rather loose. One has to hold the cord steady before letting go or have to reinsert the cord over & over again to secure a connection of the SanDisk device to the phone. I do love the Device app and the ease and quickness of copying photos to the SanDisk and seeing the copied photos immediately after successful downloaded copies. The selection to view photos that were unsuccessfully copied should be a drop down selection rather than just after copying photos as this option disappears directly after viewing the successful downloaded copied photos. All in all it was worth the cost considering this would be a more economical way to save dollars rather than the costly $ amount paid for extra iCloud space.

I don’t use this often but it seems like every time I do there is a new user interface that is worse than the last. However, after downloading the app again last night after a period of not using it (I checked for an update last night too) I was coming to make a review and found an update that did improve the UI, but the functionality is still off and not what it was a few years ago. There is no move feature. After the copy is complete there is only a few seconds to select to delete the photos from your phone. If you don’t delete you are left to manually delete and hope it copied everything you deleted. When it finds duplicates it just shows the nonsense name the phone gave it. So you don’t know what images it is referring to. So you either keep both because you aren’t sure or risk writing over something that wasn’t actually a duplicate. There is also no skip, so if you find yourself where I am, not everything it deleted was copied over, and try to copy the group over again you have to deal with the duplicate issue. Which wouldn’t be bad if it would deal with phone edits properly and not count them as a duplicate of the original (that may be more of a phone issue, but the app should address that). Over all I find the app basic and hard to use, but necessary for the external drive which is really nice to have.

Just recently bought the SanDisk 265GB iXpand Flash Drive Go with the intent of offloading files from my iPhone 11 onto it to clear up some space. However upon using the app, I’m finding there’s no way to transfer files from other apps on my iPhone to the flash drive. The ability to “open in” or share or transfer files from another app to the iXpand app is nonexistent on the iPhone 11. The SanDisk iXpand Drive app on the other hand has this feature but is sadly being removed in the near future and and will be u supported. The iPhone backup function works fine however it lacks the ability to be able to play videos from the drive. Photos show up fine. In terms of viewing files on the drive via the app, it’s missing the option to view the files by creation date or modified date or any sort of date sorting order. If the ability to save files or “open in” from other apps into this app becomes available for us older phone users, then this product (that I just purchased) and this app will have met my expectations and my need for this product and app. Currently it’s short of that and the iXpand Flash Drive Go is just an expensive and useless $60 purchase.

Why they went from the old app to the new app is beyond me. The old app was fluid. Worked like a charm. When backing up would should you in a little icon section just below the progress that would display the images and videos it was going through to back up and how far along it was. This one not only doesn’t do that, but gives you ridiculous estimated time of how long it will take. 2000 hours for 400 files? Are you serious? Not to mention that it doesn’t even show any progress to begin with, so you don’t really know how far along you are. Since this new app was required to use the same back up process, we all had to download it as the old one is no longer functioning. Which is stupid. Anyways… when I first went to use it, what would take 30 mins, took such an ungodly amount of time to back up, that it didn’t even finish doing so, before a phone that had 74% battery life died while being left alone for several hours 😐. Then to top it all off, even though it was plugged in for that amount of time… Nothing and I mean nothing backed up. The last back up that worked was the one that I did back in January before the mandatory switch to the new app. - Only good thing I can say about it, is the updated interface. As it makes it look and feel slicker, but what good is it if the whole point of using it doesn’t even do the job it’s intended to do. - Update as of May 10th 2025, after I just updated it. The app now doesn’t work at all.
