I have an old Ixpand Flash Drive Slim model and had been using the Ixpand Flash app. I was hesitant to use the new Memory Zine app which was supposed to replace it. I was comfortable with the quirks and limitations of the old app. I would use the IPhone photos app to select the photos I wanted and could call the Ixpand app to copy them in a folder of my choosing in the drive. But it was limited by the total size of the files I could copy. And it was painful if I had a lot of photos and videos to copy. With the new Memory Zone app, I had to learn how to copy files as it behaved differently. I would all from within the app access the files from the phone, select them then copy them to the flash drive folders of my choice. But, the size limitations seem to be gone and I could select and move large numbers of files from the iPhone to the drive without crashing and it was pretty fast compared to what I was doing before. But, in order for me to copy files, I would have to create iPhone albums to separate out and organize the pictures I want, then select the albums from the iPhone using the apps gallery selection. If I selected Gallery and look under recent it seemed to freeze because perhaps it had to load alot of pictures. I don’t know for sure, I didn’t want to wait for who knows how long before the app comes back or may be crash. I would recommend putting in date filters to limit the recents search update so as to speed up the update process by limiting the loading of all the pictures which could be under recent. Also, it wold be nice to have all of the pictures meta data available so we can retain the original photo date. It seems when I copy files from the iPhone to the drive it gets a new date, the date of the copy and the original date is lost.
Why?

Why they went from the old app to the new app is beyond me. The old app was fluid. Worked like a charm. When backing up would should you in a little icon section just below the progress that would display the images and videos it was going through to back up and how far along it was. This one not only doesn’t do that, but gives you ridiculous estimated time of how long it will take. 2000 hours for 400 files? Are you serious? Not to mention that it doesn’t even show any progress to begin with, so you don’t really know how far along you are. Since this new app was required to use the same back up process, we all had to download it as the old one is no longer functioning. Which is stupid. Anyways… when I first went to use it, what would take 30 mins, took such an ungodly amount of time to back up, that it didn’t even finish doing so, before a phone that had 74% battery life died while being left alone for several hours 😐. Then to top it all off, even though it was plugged in for that amount of time… Nothing and I mean nothing backed up. The last back up that worked was the one that I did back in January before the mandatory switch to the new app. - Only good thing I can say about it, is the updated interface. As it makes it look and feel slicker, but what good is it if the whole point of using it doesn’t even do the job it’s intended to do. - Update as of May 10th 2025, after I just updated it. The app now doesn’t work at all.
SanDisk Memory Zone - Not quite what I was expecting
ApplicationReviewer
Just recently bought the SanDisk 265GB iXpand Flash Drive Go with the intent of offloading files from my iPhone 11 onto it to clear up some space. However upon using the app, I’m finding there’s no way to transfer files from other apps on my iPhone to the flash drive. The ability to “open in” or share or transfer files from another app to the iXpand app is nonexistent on the iPhone 11. The SanDisk iXpand Drive app on the other hand has this feature but is sadly being removed in the near future and and will be u supported. The iPhone backup function works fine however it lacks the ability to be able to play videos from the drive. Photos show up fine. In terms of viewing files on the drive via the app, it’s missing the option to view the files by creation date or modified date or any sort of date sorting order. If the ability to save files or “open in” from other apps into this app becomes available for us older phone users, then this product (that I just purchased) and this app will have met my expectations and my need for this product and app. Currently it’s short of that and the iXpand Flash Drive Go is just an expensive and useless $60 purchase.
New app is not as good as the old one

I don’t know why they are fixing something that isn’t broken! The old app is going to stop working march 2025 but it is a lot better than the new version. The old version showed the amount of items to download and showed them downloading in real time so I knew how long it would take. The new app just bounces around from 338 hours to 17 minutes and doesn’t actually show anything. The photo files take forever to load and so far I’ve never been able to pull up my recent photos when I’ve put the drive back into my phone (iPhone 14 pro) and opened the app. I also loved that the old app displayed the amount of storage space in my phone versus on the drive right on the front page. I can’t find that information anywhere in the new app. I got my kids san disk drives for Christmas so they can clean off their phones, but I hate the new app so much, I am going to return the drives and get ones that have a better app. Why change something that works well and is user friendly to something that doesn’t and isn’t?
