Simply the best game on a phone

TLDR: this is the best game available to play on a phone and at like 500 hours in I still play dailyThe gameplay here is simply amazing. Each individual run takes just a few minutes as you climb the shop rarity from common to legendary and recruit new or upgrade your current fairytale characters. There are cool combos with captains, treasures, characters and spells that can lead to silly things like a Hercules with more strength than there are atoms in the known universe or a tree using a +1000 strength sword or tons of other combinations that make you think, “wow, that was really cool!” Even many hours into the game.The experience and interface is extremely tight and clean. There are no ads and the battle pass system is super optional, you can really tell it’s there more so the developers can keep making cool things, not because they are trying to take advantage of you. I found this game while it was still in early access and played the previous iteration by the same team years ago and I probably have 500+ hours in this game on mobile and I still play it daily. I will almost certainly be continuing to do so as well as long as the servers are kept online!

So first off this game is awesome, found it from a youtuber called Mr Fruit and i've been hooked ever since. love that it's on mobile but i also have it on my pc. a free game with no ads on the appstore is unheard of these days. you don't have to spend any money, buying packs can speed up some of the deck building but not by much so really the only thing worth it is the battle pass. unfortunately with this last update my game crashes after it being open for about 15 seconds :( super excited to try the new cards once this gets figured out though!
Best game on the app store hands down.

Fun but needs progression

Super fun game, love the card battling aspect. However, I’ve played for a couple of weeks and it feels like there’s no progression aspect—I don’t think there’s anything skill-wise (other than maybe recognizing that some cards scale better than others with certain combinations) nor game-wise (you need to get most of the extra cards for the option to customize a deck to be useful enough to shift your gameplay), so the gameplay loop feels very stagnant. Would love to incorporate some better form of progression (so there’s something to grind for) or to somehow add more agency in the game (e.g. when I lose, it’s usually because of a series of bad shops of unrelated characters that don’t scale hard enough) to remove the monotony of the gameplay loop! Since otherwise I’m just repeatedly playing a lottery :)

I got to play the game when they launched at GenCon and have been playing since. I have enjoyed it a lot, and loved to watch it as it developed, however I’m incredibly disappointed at the cash grab turn it took once they launched officially. Giving those of us who had been around since the beginning gems was nice, but locking one of the most popular Captains under a paywall feels greedy. “Thanks for the data, here’s how we’re going to take advantage of people with it.” Everything else checks out as a free to play, with option to spend money to progress faster game. It’s fun, though with the amount of time it takes to unlock new cards and no ability to earn gems, only buy them, it gets repetitive.

We strongly believe in the free to play experience and we feel like this is a really good balance that allows players to enjoy the game as much as they want for free, while still allowing a friendly revenue model that will allow the game to thrive for years to come!
