BookNotes: AI Quiz Flashcards
Study Groups & Active Recall
Only for iPhone
Free · In‑App Purchases · Designed for iPhone. Not verified for macOS.
Recall turns your book notes into a daily review that sticks. Save a highlight, and it comes back right when you're about to forget it.
Capture notes & remember forever.
BookNotes turns the books you read into knowledge that lasts. Capture a quick note, import your Kindle and Apple Books highlights, and a daily Recall feed brings each one back at the right moment, so what you read stays with you.
THREE QUIET HABITS
• Capture — Type a note, select text straight off a photo of the page, or let AI suggest the highlights worth keeping. Every note links to its book, author, and chapter, so context is never lost.
• Recall — A daily feed resurfaces your notes at growing intervals using spaced repetition, so they move from short-term to long-term memory.
• Review — Auto-generated multiple-choice and fill-in-the-blank (cloze) quizzes turn passive highlights into active recall. Tap "Explain with AI" on any note for the context behind it.
START FREE
Recall is free to start — build the habit before you hit a paywall. Bring years of existing Kindle, Apple Books, and Goodreads highlights into BookNotes in a few taps.
STUDYING FOR A REAL EXAM?
Set the date and BookNotes spreads the work out evenly, then ramps up as it gets close. Going on holiday? Vacation mode pauses your streak without losing your progress.
STUDY TOGETHER
• Start a private study group and share a deck of notes with friends.
• Keep a recall streak going together and see who's studied today.
PRIVATE BY DESIGN
No ads, and we never sell your data to advertisers. Sign out wipes the device; delete your account and everything goes with it.
Free to try, with a one-month App Store trial. Start your first note today.
more This release is all about making Recall solid.
• Recall decks now always end on the "you're all caught up" card, no more getting stuck a note or two from the end after you delete notes or switch apps.
• Exam mode: fixed a duplicated card title and brought back the progress counter.
• "Practice your weakest notes" now takes you back to the right screen when you finish.
• Your new-note badge clears as soon as you see that note in Recall.
• Improved onboarding translation.
2026.7.2 Jul 8
Reviews is now Recall and it's free.
Recall
• Your daily review feed is now the Recall feed: it brings each note back at the right moment so it sticks.
• Recall is free to start, you no longer need a subscription to build the habit
• A "caught up" card now ends each session instead of a separate summary screen.
• Tap "Explain with AI" on any card for the context behind a note.
• Going off the grid? Vacation mode pauses your streak; set an exam date and Recall paces you toward it.
Faster capture
• A new capture carousel: select text off a photo, type a note, or let AI suggest highlights.
• Five free AI generations to try suggestions and quizzes, no subscription needed.
• Notes without a book now land in Quick notes.
Import & sync
• Redesigned "Import & sync" with step-by-step guidance for Kindle and Amazon exports, plus Readwise.
• Bulk-import and curate highlights without getting blocked partway through.
Smarter start
• A short intro teaches the capture-and-recall loop the first time you open the app.
• We ask about notifications after your first note, not at launch.
Fixes
• If a quiz is still generating, Recall waits a moment, then falls back to a related question or the note itself.
• Localization, accessibility, and stability fixes throughout.
Thanks for using BookNotes. Questions or ideas? We read every message.
2026.7.1 Jun 29
Your Library now has its own tab — every book you've saved is one tap away.
Capture is simpler and quicker:
• AI suggestions are generated in the background, so you keep moving instead of waiting
• In Verbatim, the live text overlay no longer flickers while you line up a page
• A calmer mode carousel with less to scroll past
Study groups are now private and invite-only. Share a link with exactly the people you want — nobody stumbles onto your group by browsing. Removed someone by mistake? Owners can re-admit them.
Also in this release:
• Reviews: stale exam cards are cleared, so your daily count actually reaches zero
• Password reset now points you to Sign in with Apple instead of waiting on a code that never arrives
• The camera reliably stops when you leave Capture, plus tap-target and stability fixes
2026.6.4 Jun 24
Say hello to the new Capture tab.
It opens right on the camera — swipe between modes like a lens:
• Verbatim: aim at a page and tap the text you want. We read it for you, so quoting a passage is one tap, no typing.
• Shutter: snap the page and we'll pull the note from it.
• Import: drop in a photo from your library or files.
Plus one-tap Scan ISBN to find your book fast.
2026.6.2 Jun 21
Read together. This release adds Groups — book clubs and study groups — so the books you love don't have to be a solo habit.
NEW
• Groups tab — start a book club or a study group and invite friends with a link or code
• Book clubs: set a reading schedule, discuss each chapter, and keep spoilers hidden until everyone's caught up

• Discuss any single note, or chat with the whole group
• Explore public groups and join ones reading in your language

whether you tap the right word or the wrong one.
Light & Dark themes
Pick your look under Settings → Appearance. We follow your system
settings by default.
Add any book by hand
Can't find a title in our search? Now you can add it yourself —
title, author, cover, the lot — and edit the details anytime from
the book page.
Library, regrouped
Books are now grouped by reading status, and the exam card has
been redesigned for clarity.
Practice, import, share
Practice scope is easier to pick, importing highlights got a
cleaner flow, and you can share a TIL card straight from the feed.
Inline email verification
Verify your email right from the Create tab without leaving the
flow — and a 48-hour grace period before any gating kicks in.
Edit-to-retry on rejected notes
If our AI couldn't process a note, you'll now see a banner on the
card so you can tweak the wording and try again.
Plus a pile of fixes

• Daily review counter no longer gets stuck at 5/6
• Empty-feed-after-sign-in race fixed
