BookNotes now opens on Today: your Recall, your Practice and your books on one screen. NEW • Today is the new home screen. Start the day's Recall or Practice in one tap, see your streak and your week, and browse a few notes from each of your books. The notes change every morning. • Recall opens full screen from Today. Close it any time and pick up where you left off. When you're caught up, tap Done to go back to Today, or practice your weakest notes. • Add your own book cover. Under Edit book, take a photo or choose one from Photos. Only you see it. • Tap the cover on a book's page to see it full screen, and pinch to zoom. • A book with no cover now gets a drawn one with its title and author, instead of a blank. • Opening tab, under More, picks where the app opens: Today, Recall, Capture or Library. • Rate BookNotes, under More. CHANGED • Library moved from the tab bar to the top of More. "Show all" and the books on Today open it too. • Book search and Scan ISBN use a new book catalog. When search is unavailable, Add manually is right there, and an ISBN the catalog doesn't know opens Add manually with the ISBN filled in. • Covers are kept on your device, so they show offline. • The week on Today shows the days when nothing was due. Tap a day to see how many notes you recalled. • "Mastered" is now "Learned". Tap the count on Today to see what it means. • Quiz questions use the largest text that fits the card, the same way for every kind of question. • Long book titles show in full in Library and on Today, and a long author list ends in "et al." instead of cutting a name in half. FIXED • Scan ISBN from Library no longer opens a blank white screen. • Notes you add as a guest now show up in your Library. • Error messages are easier to read, in both the light and the dark theme.

Try all of BookNotes free for 30 days, no card needed. NEW • Every new account gets 30 days of full BookNotes for free, with no card and no trial to cancel. A small pill at the top of Recall shows how many days are left. • After the free days, Recall keeps working as plain flashcards, 10 a day. A subscription brings back AI quizzes on every note, unlimited Recall and unlimited notes. Tap "Unlock quiz" on any card to see the plans. • On a plain card, tap "Remembered" or "Forgot". Notes you know come back less often, and the ones you forgot return sooner. CHANGED • Short notes now fill the Recall card in larger text, and the text follows your chosen text size. • "Have a promo code?" moved to the top of the subscription screen, so it no longer covers the subscribe button. FIXED • Flicking quickly past several notes in a long Recall session now counts every one of them, so they no longer come back due again.

Give a friend an extra free month of BookNotes. NEW • Invite a friend. If you subscribe, Settings now has an invite code for you. Share it, and a friend who is new to BookNotes gets an extra free month on top of the free trial. You can see how many friends you have invited, and invite another once your code has been used. CHANGED • Recall cards now read left-aligned, so a note, its AI explanation and every quiz question line up the same way. FIXED • The "All caught up" pill now stays until you reach the end of Recall, instead of disappearing as soon as you leave the last note. • Icons in menus now match the color of their labels. Over the purple Recall card they used to blend into the background, so some options looked blank.

Recall now fits the time you have: set a daily limit, and let notes mark themselves learned. NEW • A daily Recall limit. In Settings, pick how many notes a day you want to be asked about: 20, 30, 50, 75, 100, 150, or no limit at all. Notes over the limit stay in line and come up over the next few days, and a day you skip never piles onto the next one. • Done for the day but still in the mood? "Recall more today" adds another 10, 25 or 50 notes, or every note still due. It counts for today only, so tomorrow starts at your limit again. • Notes mark themselves as learned. Answer one correctly 3 times in a row, across at least two days, and it moves onto the long schedule by itself and comes back less often. A note you have marked as not learned is left alone. CHANGED • The old "mark this as learned?" question is gone, and so is its setting. Marking now happens on its own, and you can still mark or unmark any note yourself. • After an import that takes your library past 500 notes, BookNotes asks once whether you want a limit. FIXED • A note that fails to open, or that you delete from its own page, now closes instead of leaving you on a page with nothing behind it. • With VoiceOver on, the button on the "generating suggestions" screen reads as "Continue in background" instead of reading out the line underneath it.

Imported books arrive with their covers again, and free access now counts everywhere it should. FIXED • Books created by importing your highlights come in with their cover, author and edition, instead of arriving blank with only the title from your file. Books already added without one are filled in for you next time you open your library. • Free access you were granted now counts everywhere. Saving from the share sheet and choosing what to practise both recognise it, rather than asking you to subscribe for something you already have. • An import that needs a subscription says so, instead of asking you to try again later for something that would not have worked the second time either.

Bigger imports, a fill-in-the-blank you can argue with, and a daily Recall queue that no longer stops at twenty cards. NEW • Graded wrong when you were right? Open More actions on a fill-in-the-blank note and choose "Count my answer as correct". Your wording counts from then on, and the note keeps the level it had earned. • Importing a large highlight library is calmer. The review screen shows one book at a time, you can mark a book "Know it well", and imported notes arrive for review about 100 a day instead of landing as a wall of hundreds of cards. CHANGED • Notes now always read in the language they were written in. The translation controls are gone from the card and from Settings. FIXED • An import of more than 500 notes goes through. It used to fail outright with "Import failed", however many times you tried, so a library of a few thousand highlights could not come in at all. A big import now goes over in batches and picks up where it left off. • A Readwise sync no longer stops after the first page. It also carries on when one highlight comes back malformed, waits and tries again when Readwise asks it to, and leaves out books you deleted in Readwise. • When saving your highlights fails on our side, we say so, rather than blaming Readwise for something Readwise did fine. • Your daily Recall queue fills with everything that is due. It used to hand back the same twenty cards until you had nearly finished them. • Practice keeps giving you new material. A session over a large set of notes used to circle the same hundred. • A book with more than 100 notes shows all of them, with a count and the rest loading as you scroll. Select all now means all of them. • Deleting a large selection of notes works, and says so if part of it did not land. • A filled-in blank no longer clips your answer, and a long answer no longer pushes the sentence off the edge of the card. • A fill-in-the-blank answer now takes a long press, so you can paste into it, select what you typed, and put the caret where you want it. One character at a time was the only way in before. • Saving a whole sheet of photo suggestions no longer trips our own rate limit partway through. • A quiz is never shown in a different language from the note it belongs to. • The guided tour stays on the tab whose card it is explaining, and its Library step rings your whole book list rather than whichever title happened to sort first. • Importing notes from your Library closes the review screen when it finishes, instead of leaving the Import button live for a second, duplicate import. • Messages telling you what went wrong now appear in your language.

Learn BookNotes inside BookNotes: a guided tour rings each control on the real screen and explains it. Practice moves in beside your daily Recall. NEW • Guided tour: nine steps across Capture, Recall and your Library. The app dims, the control being explained is ringed, and a coach card tells you what it does. Skip whenever you like, or replay it later from More. • Practice now lives on the Recall tab. Studying your notes on demand sits next to the reviews that arrive on a schedule, instead of hiding under More. • Pick a paragraph: Select text no longer needs a precise drag. Freeze the page and tap the paragraph you want. It works with VoiceOver too. • Scan several pages in a row and you get one notice when the whole batch is ready, plus a badge on Capture that stays until you have looked at it. One sheet saves everything, grouped by book. • Saving now always asks which book a note belongs to, with a one-tap Quick notes escape for when you would rather not choose. • One language setting: the app follows the language you pick for BookNotes in iOS Settings, and your note translations follow it too. • Streak milestones celebrate with a small floating card instead of a panel that covers the note you were reading. FIXED • Flicking past several cards in Recall now credits every one of them, so the daily counter matches what you actually got through. • An edit that saved correctly no longer reports a failure, and one that genuinely fails now says so. • Book search scrolls the whole screen, and a search that fails offers a way forward instead of an empty result. • Gold buttons are readable in the dark theme. • First launch no longer lands on a black screen behind stacked permission prompts. • Saving a note card to Photos asks only to add a photo, not to read your whole library. • Large text sizes no longer clip the capture hints or the Edit note header.

Recall opens where you left off, and typed answers got kinder. • Recall now opens on the right card every time — no more blank feed, no more landing on the last note you already answered. When nothing is due, you land on the "all caught up" card with your session behind it. • Typed fill-in-the-blank answers forgive a small typo (numbers still have to be exact), and we tell you when a typo was what we let slide. • Scanning a highlight that runs across a page break? Tap "Continue on next page" and both pages become one note. • Your deck warms up in the background, so Recall is ready the moment you open the app. • Pick the hour your Daily recall reminder arrives. • Tap "All caught up" to jump straight to the end of the deck. • Book search now says when the book service is down, instead of pretending it found nothing. • Plenty of Recall polish: the deck no longer parks between two cards, answered notes stop burying the queue, and a card that's still preparing its quiz won't get graded out from under you.

This release is all about making Recall solid. • Recall decks now always end on the "you're all caught up" card, no more getting stuck a note or two from the end after you delete notes or switch apps. • Exam mode: fixed a duplicated card title and brought back the progress counter. • "Practice your weakest notes" now takes you back to the right screen when you finish. • Your new-note badge clears as soon as you see that note in Recall. • Improved onboarding translation.

Notice a bad AI-generated question or translation? You can now flag it directly from the quiz so we can improve future results. Also fixed quiz questions sometimes disappearing after deleting a note.
