The Ballistic Chronograph app is for use with the Caldwell line of Ballistic Chronographs supporting a 3.5mm line-out serial port. Users running iOS 7 or greater • When prompted “Caldwell Ballistic Precision Chronograph” Would Like to Access the Microphone - select OK. • Please ensure that Settings -> Privacy -> Microphone -> Caldwell Ballistic Precision Chronometer is enabled (Access Granted). Running the app with the setting disabled will result in no shots being seen even though the app is showing it as connected. Users running version 1.14 or greater • When prompted “Caldwell Ballistic Precision Chronograph” Would Like to Access the Camera - select OK. • When prompted “Caldwell Ballistic Precision Chronograph” Would Like to Access Photos - select OK. • Please ensure that Settings -> Caldwell Ballistic Precision Chronometer -> Camera is enabled (Access Granted). Chrono G2 users running 1.17 or greater To enable Bluetooth in the app. In the Chrono Settings - set Bluetooth enabled. If prompted - Turn on Bluetooth to Allow "Caldwell Ballistic Precision Chronograph" to Connect to Accessories. Select Settings. Turn on Bluetooth. If prompted - Bluetooth is not enabled. Enable Bluetooth to continue. In Settings - Turn on Bluetooth.

It works…sort of

I was excited to use this app with my new chronograph and according to Caldwell’s website and the chronograph manual all items should’ve worked with my iPhone 12 Pro Max. Of course I had to use an adapter in order to connect to the chronograph. And after a lot of troubleshooting nothing worked. Even though the indicator on the app was green showing it was connected, it still didn’t work. So I tried it with my old iPad. It worked great! I do wonder what happens when I upgrade to a new iPad. Will it not work then. Not sure what part is the problem: the phone, the chronograph or the adapter in order the connect the cable to the phone.

Big help but needs minor fixes

Overall this app does exactly what it claims to do. It records each shot velocity and keeps a running history of all shoe strings. Adding target pictures with each string is a nice touch. The weather updates currently do not work. It appears there was a change in this version to use weather underground, but temp and humidity show as n/a after a few second delay while the app tries to get current conditions. I shot 15 strings of 5 shots on Friday. Had 2 errors in reading and had to restart the chrono twice. I think those were chrono/weather problems - the app kept working. Suggestions for the developers: - when I start a new group and the chrono is connected, start recording. Don't make me tap "start"- fix weather lookup (I'm guessing you know about that)- add humidity and altitude lookup along with temp and pressure. We have to write these down, so if you are collecting 2 of the 4 necessary environmentals, you may as well get all 4 automatically (or use absolute/station pressure & temp & humidity) - you have two fields for "notes" on each shot string. These are probably going to be for the firearm and the ammo. How about making a list where I can enter the firearms and loads and choose or not. I think this is what you are trying to do with "templates", but the UI of templates doesn't really match how most apps work so it's not as intuitive to use as a customized list for each notes field. - show the notes fields all the time ... Don't hide them and make me tap the arrow to show the infoThanks

No way to pre-load shot lists

Shot lists must be created when shooting, so there is no way to enter load data in ahead of time. This makes it a real pain and time consuming to type all this in while at the firing line during round development.Also, no way to add shots to a saved group, or add a shot manually in a string in the event of communication issues via the cable or Bluetooth. Lastly, the ability to add a picture to the saved shot string is great, but it can only access the camera, so you can’t use a photo from the library. It would be better to also allow the user to select an image from the library so that they can quickly take images of all groups at once, and add them to the saved shot groups later. (This would also allow the user to user images that have been annotated with group size by other apps)Disappointed that there has been no updates in 4 years.

I downloaded the App after purchasing the chronograph. Took it to the range and it interfaces and logged the data from shots perfectly. I updated the App on my iPhone 11 and it stopped working. After buying a new dongle from Apple, putting the App on my newer work iPhone, my wife’s 14, getting a brand new Chronograph from Caldwell it still does not interface to the App. So for the headache and hassle I’m recording date the old fashion way, pen and paper one shot at a time at the range and putting it into a spread sheet from the first working session before the update. It is disappointing that a big part of the total tool is useless artist on a bore.
