Comic Life 3 is so good, you’d think 4 would upgrade the features, but it’s basically a new skin to the old features. The number issue is it can’t export? I tried several times to export my cover as an image. But the produced “image” is an unreadable file. I tried exporting in several image formats, none of them were readable. Don’t buy this, buy Comic Life 3, it actually works. I had to copy all my pages to a Comic Life 3 file to get my cover export. I’m uninstalling 4 immediately after I submit this review, Because the files are not backwards compatible, and the old files will default to open in 4. This app is a horrible cash grab to scam idiots (like myself) into buying a new version that improves nothing and doesn’t do its job. I will not be buying Comic Life 5.

I’m not having any issues with Comic Life 4 like crashing or glitching or anything like that. The program seems to work just fine on my 6 year old Mac. (Knock on wood). The problem I’m having is with the new interface. It’s very different from earlier versions and I’m actually at a loss for how to do most of the basic tasks I used to handle with ease. For example it took me forever to find the pre-loaded panel layouts (60’s Comic 1, Graphic Novel, Strips, etc.) Also, I can’t figure out how to add photos to the panels. I used to be able to browse to a folder on my computer, and the contents would show up in the side bar and I would just drag the photo I wanted into the panel. That feature seems to be gone now, and I’m not really sure how to get images on my pages. I have been hoping someone would post a tutorial video somewhere going over the new features of Comic Life 4, but so far no one has. So, as a result, I am still using Comic Life 3. I would like to start using 4, but I have to wait until I can get some kind of an instruction video or manual.

I’ve used Comic Life on and off since 2005, making comics to commemorate different events and give them to friends as gifts. It has been excellent through version 3. BUT the first version 4 release was reprehensibly buggy and I hugely regretted upgrading and got a refund. Several months later, I downloaded the latest version and I can see bugs are being fixed. I was able to complete a short comic easily, only having an issue with print pagination. You can open older version 3 files easily.The new UI is jarring and opening dialog boxes do not inspire confidence if you’re used to the older one. It is largely simplified, but to the point of requiring more “thinking” from the user. For example, the intuitive “Layouts” pane from version 3 is only accessible once you click “add page” from the toolbar. It’s harder to find and browse. But most of the features are there. Plasq seems to be earnestly working on making version 4 better, so I bought version 4 again and am supporting them.

Bought this app when the release was announced. Running a brand new Mac with Sequoia 15.1.1. App seems to load and VERY slow. However, new project can't be created. Only get a blank screen called Untitled. Existing projects from ComicLife 3 won't load either. My ComicLife 3 seems to load and operate as it should. I contacted ComicLife three times with no response. I recommend THINK BEFORE YOU BUY. Very disappointed with app and customer service. UPDATED REVIEW - Redownloaded and same issues as previously made several months ago. I would not recommend buying this app revision. App installs but will not load any new or existing projects. Rev 4 app is useless in my opinion. Tried to get a refund but to no avail. I feel cheated.
