I was looking for an alternative to Speak, which I consider the best language learning app out there, but unfortunately still does not offer German. I tested Ogima for a week and then bought the full year premium subscription, so I’ve used the app now for two weeks. The app is pretty unique in the sense that it combines the structure of specific conversational topics with the flexibility of AI to create additional content that is relevant to the user. It also has the ability to adjust to the user level very quickly, which is another big advantage. The one thing that I am missing is the spaced repetition of the words and phrases covered in previous lessons. The other thing that can be improved is that on some days I get very basic 1-minute exercises, while on others I get the longer 3-minute ones that are certainly more helpful for memorizing words and phrases. I do not think that is by design because the 1-minute exercises to not do much to retain the new information, especially given the lack of spaced repetition mentioned above. I hope that these features will be improved because the app has the potential to become a worthy competitor of the Speak app. I’ve tested dozens of language learning apps over the past 10+ years and it is amazing how few apps focus on speaking the foreign language, which of course is the ultimate goal of any foreign language learner … I will provide an update again in 1 month.

I really like scrolling through the short lessons! Also organization around topics is amazing as well. Definitely easier to keep being motivated than other apps.

This app was cool so far but it is a little glitchy and slow in the sense that i can say the same thing like 20 times and it is wrong until the 20th try and also it straight up just stopped working at one point. Like i had to completely exit out of the app and start over. also I hate AI so not my fav buttt it seems pretty good so far!
