Fixes for iOS 27

v3.3.0 - A fresh new design! • A bottom ‘dock’ area on iPhone houses the address bar and additional navigation buttons, dismisses on scroll. • Fully configurable buttons! Build your own toolbars. • The sidebar resizes down to just icons now! (Hold down on the sidebar or hover with a cursor to view tab names) • Floating stop button (optionally) appears during page load, allowing you to (optionally) forgo the reload button. • More context menus! Lots of the default buttons have context menus now, such as the toggle sidebar button and new tab button. • Shimmer can now request permission to access local data such as microphone, camera, and photo library (retroactively editing per-site permissions not yet supported, but it prompts for initial permission per-site and I figure this is better than crashing). • Many, many bug fixes. You can tell this is a big update because my update notes are short - I’m just handwaving some general huge features and leaving you to figure out the details for this one!

v3.2.0 • Search Engine customisation! Choose from a list of built-in search engines, and see the favicon for your preference when searching. • Bookmark import & export, and the ability to import a file from Safari - get started quickly, and prevent against data loss! • Huge improvements to liquid-glass sidebar sizing and show & hide handling on iPhone and compact window widths, with a new custom implementation, which is now the only option for this size class. (More to come for compact widths!) • Removed the portrait iPhone split view for non-liquid-glass modes, which was quite painful to use.* • Swipe back to reveal the sidebar when the webpage has no further back history. (Very nice on iPhone!) • The Local Tabs dropdown now includes tab expiry and Saved Tabs Only mode options. • The New Tab context menu includes Paste (and Go), and New Folder options. • The Address bar context menu includes Paste too. • Cmd-click a link to open it in a new tab, or Opt-click for tab triage. • The Settings page is now a modal, and a No Selection page (with a clarifying IAP prompt) has been introduced. *On iPhone, I plan to re-introduce some more standard, Safari-like inline browsing controls very soon. The original design pre-3.0.0 was optimised for accessing a couple of saved tabs, rather than more general web-browsing, and just didn't scale to both. v3.0.0 amounted to a near-total rewrite of the app, so I'm giving the new sidebar some room to breathe for now, before I compact the controls down again in a more ergonomic way that hopefully feels nicer to use on iPhone, supporting browser usage just as well as focused usage. UX tweaks: • All settings (Layout, SavedTabsOnly) are per-device now, Settings has been reorganised. Optimisations: • Webpage state is now carried across when saving/unsaving a tab. • More efficiently determines the current page title. • Tweaked favicon storage again, to cache them per-domain rather than per-page. • Rounds webview width to the nearest integer, which fixes a few graphical issues. • Tab sessions start more reliably now (sometimes the session wouldn't visibly start, especially on iPhone). • Fixes a few memory leaks. v3.2.1 • Localisation fixes.

• New tab icon style - tab favicons (or site initials) are shown in rounded squares with a drop-shadow. • Capital letters in tab names are used for more precise initials if present, otherwise the first letter of the tab name is used as before. • Moved navigation controls & address bar to bottom of sidebar. More complete redesign built around bottom navigation incoming!

v2.2.2 • Fixes a case where tab URLs could update slowly • Toned down the darkening logic to avoid breaking pages in dark mode. Much more to come! I’ve been abroad for the month. This month’s updates have just been small things bothering me enough to fix via screen sharing over hotel wifi.

• When on the settings/home page, a fixed-position new tab button will show in the corner. • Flattens out tab menus - seems simpler UX for skimming, clarifies stop/close options. Otherwise, this is a bug fix update: • Respect website’s preference of whether to open links in new tabs. • Improve handling of buttons which navigate via javascript. • Fix display conditions for certain menu items. • Fix a crash when pressing the triage new tab button. • Prevent triage webpages continuing some activities on dismiss. • Improve experience on a fresh launch.

• Limit browsing for social media or other sites to X number of times in Y hours for a given saved tab. • Saved searches now use the search as their default tab title. • Expanded support back to iOS 17. • cmd backspace to delete a tab focused with the keyboard focus ring. • Only show address bar on launch when "Saved tabs only" is disabled. • WIP new tab behaviour for WebViews. Nearly ready to launch! • Workaround for some glitchiness with the homepage backgrounds. • Portrait on iPhone now defaults to expanded mode, as contains the added functionality of the close all tabs button, and potentially more to come. • "Session tabs", as they're named to VoiceOver users, are now "Local tabs", to avoid confusion with the "Session limit" feature. • Various under the hood changes. Session limits require updating all synced devices. Limits you set up may not be retained if changes are made to your tabs on older version of the app.

If you read your update notes, you'll love this release! ＼(^o^)／ v1.6 is the biggest update to Shimmer Browser yet, introducing window tabs, searches, tab selection indicators, and lots lots more! • Shimmer may now be used as a general-purpose browser by disabling Focused tabs - New per-window tabs appear after your saved tabs in a rebuilt sidebar • These are the default tab type in this mode • If you have 2+ window tabs, an option appears to close all in one go! - Use the long-press menu to Keep window tabs, or Unkeep saved tabs - The settings homepage now scrolls, to accommodate the new Focused tabs setting • A rebuilt address bar - Uses the design introduced in v1.5.0 a few days ago! - Enter search terms to generate a DuckDuckGo search (Use !bangs to search with other websites for now) - No longer moves out of position when the keyboard appears - but still avoids the keyboard if it would otherwise be hidden - Now dismisses more reliably • A rebuilt sidebar, based on the portrait toolbar - Tabs sharing the same URL are now have separate navigation history - Start from a clean slate, with a new "Stop" context menu option for tabs! • This forgets the current browsing session for that tab, good for when you get off-track! • Changed the top toolbar to show "Done" rather than "Close" to clarify behaviour • More keyboard commands - cmd 1 through 10 will jump to specific tabs - cmd shift [ or ] to navigate between adjacent tabs (saved URL schemes will be skipped) - Keyboard shortcuts & webview interaction should now be more reliable when swapping between tabs • WebViews updated - Still macOS-only where SafariVC is unavailable, as they're not ready for prime-time - Now attempt to open a new tab when moving between domains (experimental behaviour) - Improved reliability of back and forward enabled states, with a new animation on change - Reload becomes stop when loading, with a fancy animation - cmd R to reload - cmd . or escape to stop loading - cmd W to close (matching In-App Safari) - Zoom shortcuts maybe never worked, will take a look • The widget now opens existing tabs, rather than opening the tab's link separately • Improved hover effects for various buttons • v1.6.1 bug fixes - Tabs now un-keep properly - Corrects the orientation of the window tabs dropdown arrow to match the active layout - Fixes and adds animations for sidebar interactions - Don't create tabs with an empty address - The window tabs dropdown is now visible at smaller widths - Highlight new tab icon only when creating new tab, rather than whenever the homepage is shown
