How am I the first person to be reviewing this app? It’s one of the best language-learning apps I’ve ever used, up there with Pleco. As an experienced language learner, I know that reading and consuming media is the best way to build your vocabulary and overall sense for how the language really works, things that most textbooks feed to you piecemeal, but that you really need to immerse yourself in. The living language is so much more interesting than anything in a textbook or (more commonly these days) an app. This one lets you immerse yourself in real materials with minimal friction. The “pre-study” feature is genius! If you’re studying Chinese, do yourself a favor and just get it. No subscription and an incredibly reasonable price. Support this developer! We need more developers like this.

New in 1.16 - Clearer Chinese Voices: Kokoro now reads Chinese more accurately and offers over 100 named voices, each with its pinyin and pitch. - Native Voice for HSK Words: Tap the speaker on any HSK word to hear it in a native speaker's voice, offline. Other words still use text-to-speech. - One Voice Screen: Choose Kokoro or Qwen3, preview any voice and manage downloads in one place under Settings ▸ Voice. - Smoother Qwen3 Reading: Qwen3 starts sooner, plays without gaps, and highlights one word at a time in step with the voice, including English words. - More Pages Work: Many more Chinese sites now load and become tappable, including pages that add text as you scroll. - Many bug fixes.
