Yomi is a reading practice app for kids ages 5-9. Children pick a story and read it aloud to Yomi, a small companion that thrives the more they read. The library has levelled stories, and the story creator lets kids design their own hero and generate a custom story at their reading level. Tap-to-hear on any word, listen out loud, dyslexia-friendly font. Designed with reading specialists.
HOW DOES YOMI WORK?
Your child picks a story and reads it aloud. Every story read keeps Yomi energized and growing. After each story, gentle comprehension checks reinforce understanding without turning the session into a test. When kids stumble on a word, they tap it to hear it pronounced. Yomi gets sleepy if not read to, even when the app is closed, which gives children a reason to come back the next day.
DOES YOMI HELP WITH PHONICS AND FLUENCY?
Yomi is built around reading aloud, the single activity most strongly tied to phonological awareness, fluency, and comprehension in early readers. Children see the word, hear it when they get stuck, and speak it. That combination is what builds the connection between print and spoken language.
IS YOMI GOOD FOR RELUCTANT READERS?

Yomi uses AI for the story creator. Kids pick a reading level (beginner, middle, advanced) and design their own hero, and Yomi generates a custom story matched to that level. The story is added to their library and read aloud like any other book. The rest of the app, the curated library, comprehension prompts, and accessibility features, works without AI.
