Great piece of software - HUGE difference maker

I am seldom impressed enough with software to go online and write a review, but I had to make an exception in this case. Launchy has totally changed how I interact with my MBP and saves me a ton of time. I’m a professional editor and animator and switching around between apps is a big part of what I do and was getting to be cumbersome and time consuming. My dock had become a mess and the answer wasn’t really in a bunch of hotkeys. I was considering getting a StreamDeck or Logi Creative Console, but I found this first and am glad I did. This software is so intuitive, easy to implement and above all FAST that it’s become a big part of my workflow. Thank a million for making it so good AND affordable. The very reasonable one time purchase price without the need for a silly subscription is also a breath of fresh air. Can’t say enough good things about it. If you work on your Mac, get it - you won’t regret it.

Excellent

Absolutely love Launchy. It’s very useful and visually appealing. Coming from Linux where I used Gnome Pie (Fly Pi, later on Kando Menu) I was very happy to find out that something similar exists for macOS. The App works as expected and it just runs in the background doing exactly what it is supposed to do without using many resources. It also has a menu icon for quick access to settings. The developer is very responsive too which is a plus. I suggested a new feature and just a couple of days later he’s already working on it. I would definitely recommend Launchy to anyone.
Great shortcut, one and only potential downside.

This is an amazing app, I love to use it specifically for my most used like Notion or WebStorm. And this perfectly works for it so my tab bar isn’t cluttered. Only downside that I’m at- least noticing is the fact that its a bit choppy when using the shortcut, specifically opening it feels like its running at 5 frames a second compared to the video. If theres a way to potentially fix this, or even just have it so it instantly open up the app without any animation, that would be amazing!
Developer Response
Hey! Thanks for the review. There is a way to disable animation. Go to the app Settings -> Wheel Launcher -> in the "Other preferences" section, there will be a "Show launcher with animation" toggle. You can turn it off.
Almost perfect

I really love the concept and design of Launchy. At the same time, I have encountered one issue that limits the functionality of the app for me as it is presently configured.I have several apps that are set to keep their windows floating on top of my desktop. The launcher does keep these windows floating in normal mode. The problem is that my desktop quickly becomes filled with windows from all the apps I have opened using Launchy. While Launchy does allow one to hide app windows using keyboard shortcuts, it does not allow one to do so in a way I find intuitive. Rather, hiding and unhiding individual app windows requires moving one’s right hand from the mouse to the keyboard and back multiple items because when an app window is open or closed its icon location shifts in the toggle wheel.I thought ‘no problem’ I will set the app to ‘Hide all other applications’ in order to keep my desktop from getting cluttered. Unfortunately, Launchy does not keep the windows set to float on top floating when the ‘Hide all other application’ setting in the general settings is toggled. The ‘hide all applications’ option does in fact hide all windows except one. All windows for all apps that are set to float are minimized and I could not find any settings that would allow the user to prevent some application windows from being hidden. I was hoping that Launchy would speed up my workflow. In many instance its does. Yet it is not useful for the primary purposes that motivated me to try out Launchy. It complicates my workflow when working on writing or research that synthesizes data using multiple sources and data sets or presenting this information in a teleconference. For Launchy to be useful for these purposes, it would need to introduce an option to allow a user to prevent some apps such as Word documents, teleconferencing apps, and media players from being hidden when switching between windows when minimizing the windows for all other applications.
Developer Response
Thanks for your detailed review! I think the easiest in this case would be to introduce an additional setting in the preferences page next to the "Hide all applications" toggle, where the user can add/remove apps that will be ignored by that feature. Thanks again for the review and the feature request.
- Add files and folders to profiles so you can open them directly from the radial menu.
- New menu location setting to center the radial menu on screen.
