Angle of Knife: Sharpening
Whetstone angle meter & log
Free · In‑App Purchases · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.
No stone, no sharpener? Sharpen your knife on the bottom of a ceramic mug — the app walks you through it, step by step.
Lay your phone flat on the blade and see the exact sharpening angle. No guessing, no ruined edges.
Angle of Knife turns the phone in your pocket into a sharpening angle meter. Set the angle you want, start sharpening, and the app beeps the moment the blade sits right. Works on a whetstone, in a guided jig, or on a machine.
No stone? Use a mug
Nothing to sharpen with at all? The app walks you through it step by step on the bottom of a ceramic mug: which mug works, what angle to hold, how to move the blade, how long per side and how to strip the burr at the end. It gets a straight edge cutting again when there's nothing else at hand — serrated and bread knives need a different tool.
No jig? Use the calculator
Enter the blade width and the angle you're after. The app shows the gap under the spine in millimetres — and how many coins to stack to hold it. That's the whole setup.
A log for every knife
Save each knife with its angle, a photo and a note about the steel. Every session goes into its history, so next time you don't start from scratch. Presets cover the common knife types, from a chef's knife to an axe.
Who it's for
Home cooks tired of a dull knife. People learning a whetstone. Hunters and campers who sharpen in the field. Woodworkers keeping a repeatable bevel on a chisel.
