VPD measures how aggressively the atmosphere is pulling moisture from fuels — often a better single indicator of fire danger than relative humidity alone. The card shows the current reading in kPa with a color-coded risk scale (Low → Moderate → High → Extreme), a 24-hour trend chart, and a research-backed explainer covering wildland fire science, operational thresholds, and key studies from Williams, Seager, and Sedano & Randerson. Smoother Scrolling Fixed a rendering glitch that caused the station card view to jump or stutter when scrolling on stations with fire danger gauge data. Scrolling is now consistently smooth across all station types. Card Layout Improvements Reorganized the home screen card order for a more logical flow: Temperature and Humidity side by side, Fuel Temperature and Fuel Moisture together, followed by Soil and VPD as full-width cards. Pocket RAWS now has a Soil Intel gauge — bringing ground-level moisture and temperature data into the same fast-glance card layout you already use for fuel moisture, wind, and humidity. What you get • Soil Moisture (VWC) and Soil Temperature for each station, pulled directly from the RAWS soil probe network • Up to three depths per station with a built-in depth picker — switch between shallow, mid, and deep readings with a tap • Color-coded VWC bar spanning red (critically dry) → orange → yellow → green → blue (wet), tuned to the 0–50% volumetric range that matters for drought signal • 24-hour trend charts in the drawer — overlay all three depths to spot drying trajectories, recovery failures, and depth divergence Built for fireline judgment • Drought-signal framing, not a fuel-moisture replacement. The drawer's wildfire context section makes the role of soil moisture explicit: it's a slow-changing antecedent indicator that complements — never replaces — RH, wind, 1/10-hr fuel moisture, and ERC/BI • Operational interpretation built-in — read multi-depth divergence ("shallow recovering while deep stays low = surface masking underlying drought") and structural drying patterns directly in-app • Suspect-reading detection — when one depth reads dramatically drier than its neighbors while soil temps match, Pocket RAWS flags it in yellow. Bad probe contact, rocky soil, and failing sensors get caught before they steer a decision Stations without soil sensors Not every RAWS has soil probes. Stations without sensors show a clean N/A placeholder — no broken gauges, no confusing zeros.

Fixed Weather Overlays

Fire Danger Ratings on the Map Stations that host fire danger indices now display a color-coded badge on their map pin. The numbered badge (1-5) represents the current NWCG adjective rating — Low, Moderate, High, Very High, or Extreme — using official fire danger colors, making it easy to spot fire danger levels across the map at a glance. Fire Weather Alerts (California Only) Red Flag Warnings, Fire Weather Watches, and other NOAA fire weather alerts now appear as overlay zones on the full-screen map. Tap any alert to view full details including timing and hazard descriptions. Active alerts are also listed under the Fire Weather tab.
