Sweep things under the rug – virtually.
DeskMat is your virtual mat that can cover your mess of files and folders on your desktop with the click of a button.
For cleaner streams, video conferences, screen sharing, and distraction-free work!
= Hide your Desktop(s) =
With a single click, cover your Desktop, and then show it again.
If you have multiple screens, you can decide whether to just hide one Desktop, or all.
= Hide Files and Folders =
Alternatively, you can also hide individual files and folders, or file types, while still accessing other files.
= Minimal UI =
Place DeskMat's button on your main Desktop, all Desktops, or the menu bar.
Or remove the button altogether and use the keyboard shortcut and auto-triggers exclusively.
= Auto Triggers =
Have DeskMat automatically cover your Desktop when apps you specify are running, or come to the foreground.
Set up DeskMat to work in tandem with your Focus modes!
= Your Wallpaper =
Use your current wallpaper, a solid color, a custom image, or blur the Desktop as-is.
Requirements:
- macOS 13 Ventura or newer
- A messy desktop (not *really* a requirement)
A note on in-app purchases:
The in-app purchases offered in the app are voluntary tips you can send me to further the development of this and my other apps. They do not unlock any additional content or features - you get all of DeskMat's functionality with your initial one-time purchase of the app.
This app hasn’t received enough ratings or reviews to display an overview.
Focus mode integration is excellent
tedsvo
There are many "hide your desktop" apps, but the developer Matthias is exceptionally good at making utilities that feel natural and indispensable. The thing that distinguishes DeskMat for me is the ability to have it work automatically based on Focus Modes. When I’m in my "Meeting" or "Teaching" focus, where my screen is often being shown to others, my desktop is automatically cleared, and restored when it’s over. Kudos once again!
Great Developer and Apps

Don’t know if or when I’ll need this app, but if this developer releases an app, I’m buying it! He’s that good and very responsive to questions, feature requests, and just about everything else. His other app, ScreenFloat, is one I can’t live without on my Mac.
Great, one thing though

Understand that MacOS 26 is still beta version, but DeskMat doesn’t work with MacOS 26, looking forward to the fix though
Developer Response
Hi Vosaje Sanucilav, thank you for your review of DeskMat. I'm glad you like my app.I'm working on an update to improve its compatibility with macOS 26.Please do mail me at support@eternalstorms.at so I can get a better understanding of your situation - thank you!Bump (September 8, 2025) to see if you're still experiencing this issue on macOS 26 beta?Cheers,– Matthias
DeskMat v1.3 (2026.03.30) contains the following new features, improvements and bug fixes:
= NEW FEATURES =
- New Cover Style: As an alternative to covering your entire Desktop, you can now choose individual files (or types of files) to hide or show instead
- DeskMat is now Apple Script-able: toggle the cover, switch between full cover and individual files, and control desktop widget visibility
= IMPROVEMENTS =
- You can now double-click DeskMat's app icon to toggle its cover - perfect, too, for using it from your Dock
- You can now access to the files on your Desktop when DeskMat is active from the button's contextual menu. This menu is hidden from sharing, so most screen capturing apps will not see it, keeping your files private (please test with the sharing app of your choice first)
= BUG FIXES =
- Fixes an issue where sometimes DeskMat's extensions wouldn't work correctly
- Fixes a crash that could occur when opening DeskMat's settings
Thank you for using DeskMat for Mac. I hope you're enjoying the app!
If you have some time and if it's not too much to ask, please consider leaving a rating or review of DeskMat on the Mac App Store - it would help me out a lot!
