Your location stays on your device: nothing is sent. CLEARER REPORTS When riders don't all say the same thing, each report is shown with its number of votes: one kiter's “wild” is no longer drowned out by three “normal”. A LIVELIER WIND MAP Wind stations are back on it, in purple, the color of measured wind: the real thing next to the forecast. In the Foam theme, the wind trails and colors now read as well as in dark mode. ALERTS THAT REALLY RING An alert that combines tide and wind, like a fishing trip, now rings with your phone in your pocket, based on the forecast wind, exactly as the preview says. Wind alerts are also checked in the background, and on all your spots, not just the one on screen. New “Daytime only” option: no more notifications at 4 a.m. ALSO On Apple Watch, “Is it on?”: riders' reports on the spot page, and voting on the spot in three taps. In the calendar, swipe up or down to change month, and tap the month title to jump straight to a date. The welcome tour now introduces “Is it on?”. Above it, a verdict for your sport and your wind range: Good conditions, Too light, Too strong or Offshore wind, plus your next GO window. Slide your finger across the whole week. On iPad, a six-hour zoom around the time you are reading. (Premium) SURF MODE, REBUILT A rating for every hour, matched to your level: Flat, Poor, Fair, Good, Very good or Too big. Wave size on the body scale, the best slot of the day, and the spot view with each swell in its own colour. Night hours get no rating, and a swell that cannot reach the spot is never called good. Along the bottom of the main curve, swell and wind every three hours. (Premium) SPOTS EVERYWHERE Over 1,100 kite, wing, windsurf and surf spots in France, and more than 220 kite spots in 14 countries: Tarifa, Dakhla, Egypt, Brazil, South Africa… Opening a kite, wing or windsurf spot is free. New wind stations in the Netherlands, Germany and Denmark. On a lake, the wind curve sits on flat water; and where no reliable tide exists near a spot, Tide It says so instead of making one up. Tide It 6.1 — Is it on? Not sure whether to head out? Ask the riders who are already there. IS IT ON? IS IT SURFABLE? On site, say in one tap how it's going: not on, mellow, normal or wild for the wind; flat, small, nice swell or big for the waves. Everyone else sees it right away, with how many riders said so and how long ago. A report lasts three hours and can only be given on site. It's the riders' word, never mixed with the forecast or the measurements. Free, no account, and your location never leaves your device. KNOW AS SOON AS IT'S ON Turn on "When it's on at my favorites" in the app's settings: as soon as a rider on site says it's on at one of your favorite spots within 150 km (90 mi), a notification tells you. Tap it and the spot details open. SPOT DETAILS One page per spot: a satellite view of the place, the wind from the nearest station and the swell from the buoy (Premium), the riders' reports, the tide right now, today and tomorrow at a glance, and the coordinates to get there with Maps, Google Maps or Waze. AT A GLANCE In your favorites, a badge shows how many riders have reported, in the color of their report. YOUR SPOTS, FOR EVERY RIDER When you create a custom spot, you can suggest it to all riders: it's checked by default. It appears for other riders once two riders have confirmed it on site. Only its name, location and tide settings are shared. Something looks off about a spot? Report it from its spot details. ON THE MAP Public spots show up in magenta. Stations become circles in the color of the wind, with the speed in the middle, and swell buoys join the map with their measured height. A FRESH LOOK The light theme has been redesigned and is now called Seafoam: seafoam-colored backgrounds, navy ink, ocean blue for the rising tide and lavender for the falling tide. Choose it in Settings > Appearance. Kitesurfing, wing, kitefoil and the "Is it on?" and "Is it surfable?" levels get their own icons, drawn for Tide It, and icons are sharper everywhere. Measured swell, next to the forecast. On French surf spots, in surf mode, the swell recorded by the nearest offshore buoy now appears right below the forecast: its height, its direction or period depending on the buoy, its name, its distance, and the age of the reading, always shown. It sits beside the forecast and is never blended into it. A buoy measures the sea state offshore, swell and wind chop combined, not the wave at the shore: the two numbers complement each other, and neither corrects the other. When no buoy is close enough, or it faces a different sea from your spot, nothing is shown rather than a reading that does not apply to you. The share card now carries the tideit.app address, so the people who see it can find the app. Two stations on the Bassin d'Arcachon, Le Betey and Le Grand Crohot, leave the map: their readings relied on a web page that could stop working without warning. No reading is better than a fragile one. Fair winds and good waves!

All your spots on a single screen. A new page brings together your favourites, your surf spots and your custom ports, sorted by distance. Each one carries the next five days of wind as a colour band; surf spots add their swell and its height. Enough to choose where to go without opening a single page. On the map, tapping a weather station opens its reading: speed, gust, direction, and the age of the measurement, always shown. Three fixes that matter. Forecast bands could stay empty for up to an hour: a refresh lock outlived the data it was protecting. Deleting a spot could close the app. And the position that sorts your spots by distance could be a day old, because the app kept the oldest fix of a reading instead of the most recent one. Stations were also missing from the map: their reload area was wider than the one their source actually covers. The weather strip at the bottom is less dense, swell now has its own colour range, and you choose the bottom shortcut between Ports and spots or Map. Fair winds and good waves!

Hundreds more stations. The app now reads the open observation networks of the United States, Portugal, Japan and Spain - including the Canary Islands, where most Spanish spots are. Over 2,500 stations join the real wind shown beneath the forecast. Australia joins too, through its national observation network. In the United States these sit ON the spots: 1.6 km from Rincon, 2.1 from Ocean Beach, 2.3 from Mavericks, 3.8 from Pipeline. Where the app previously had to settle for an airport 30 km inland. Nothing is downloaded if you are far away: each network only wakes up for a spot inside its country. Measured across the 284 spots in the catalogue: the share with a station within 15 km rises from 34 to 42%, and from 29 to 45% in Europe outside France. The search radius has not changed. Widening it would have produced a better number by importing airport sensors 30 km inland - a reading that does not describe your spot is not a reading. Fair winds and good waves!

Stations no longer vanish when their server falters. The app read a station's position from the same file as its reading. When that file failed - and it failed three different ways in one week - the app lost not only the current wind, which is normal, but the station's location, which is not. The station disappeared from the screen entirely. Positions now ship inside the app: a weather station does not move. TWO NEW ANEMOMETERS ON THE ARCACHON BASIN. Le Betey in Andernos and Le Grand Crohot join the station network. Both sit ON the spot, a few hundred metres from the water - where the app often had to fall back on an airfield sensor. AND WHEN A STATION HAS TRULY GONE QUIET, THE APP SAYS SO. Until now, a spot whose anemometer is down 1 km away showed exactly what a spot with no station at all shows: nothing. A plain line now gives its name, its distance and the date of its last reading. Nothing invented - only that it exists and that it is silent. RELIABILITY. A third-party station publishing two readings at the same instant could crash the app. And the wind unit is now required: an unrecognised label discards the reading instead of serving it in an assumed unit - a station in knots read as km/h is 45% less wind, without a word. The app also downloads less: a station's history is no longer fetched when it is far from you, nor more than once per cycle. Fair winds and good waves!

Accuracy fixes. STATIONS THAT DISAPPEARED. Some stations publish their current reading and their history separately. When the first freezes but the second keeps filling, the app was reading the wrong one and the station vanished from the screen - while fresh data was sitting right there. It now takes the last point of the history, always shown with its real age. THE STAR SCALE GETS ALL FIVE STEPS BACK. Two internal ceilings divided the rating so that a session could only aim for 5, 3 or 2 stars: four stars was not rare, it was impossible. Worse, 81% of surfable hours could not exceed 2 stars, and at some spots it was 100% - the rating there was a constant. Verified across 20,000 hours and 14 spots. Along the way, a 13-second swell no longer scores below a 12-second one. The "too big" threshold fired on the upper bound of a deliberately wide estimate, and so fired too early. REAL WIND TRACE. A station whose history stopped long ago can no longer inject old measurements into today's chart. Fair winds and good waves!

Surf ratings get stricter — and truer. The engine could score a storm 75/100. Three guards now apply: - Too much wind closes the session. The threshold depends on direction: offshore holds a wave up, onshore tears it apart. The same speed no longer counts the same regardless of where it comes from. - A flat sea scores nothing. Below 30 cm of swell there is nothing to surf. - Period is now PEAK period, the one surfers actually talk about, whenever that data exists. A long period means swell that has travelled; a short one means chop raised by local wind. Spots that showed four stars will show two, and some GO windows will disappear. That is the point: a rating that says yes to everything is worthless. The wind ACTUALLY MEASURED is drawn on the chart, beneath the forecast: speed and gust, exactly as the anemometer recorded them. The gap between what was announced and what blew reads at a glance — no need to take our word for it. That trace is now rebuilt from the history the stations publish themselves, in 30-minute steps: no more islands of isolated points. Where measurement is missing, the line breaks. A silence of several hours will never be filled with an invented line. Honesty: - Three indices (fishing, swimming, launching) announced "glassy, ideal" where no wave measurement existed at all. With no data the factor now disappears instead of inventing calm. Spots: - Andernos-les-Bains (Le Betey), Hourtin-Plage and Lacanau Ocean join the catalogue. - "Lacanau" becomes "Lacanau (offshore)": that tide reference point sits 29 km out to sea. Its tides are right; its wind is not the wind on the beach. - A spot you pinned yourself now takes the general weather of the nearest verified location, within 8 km. A pin dropped a few kilometres offshore was reading open-water wind, and could rank a sheltered bay ahead of an ocean beach. The weather strip now uses the colour spectrum of the wind ribbon above it, at full intensity. The app uses less network and less battery on every refresh. Fixes: - The live wind label no longer hides the curves. - When the forecast service hits its daily limit, the app says so — instead of sending you off to check your connection. A day with no slot now tells you WHY: "no window - max 8 knots". Two spots can be compared at a glance, without opening anything. Silence should never look like a breakdown. Apple Watch - the watch finally follows the same rules as the phone: - Real wind can no longer come from a station 30 km away. The radius is down to 15 km, matching the iPhone: a confirmation from somewhere else confirms nothing. And the wrist is exactly where it matters most, on the beach with no phone. - When a station does not publish its direction, the arrow no longer defaults to due north. It disappears, and the watch falls back to the phone's wind instead of inventing a heading. - Tide labels and the age of the reading now appear in your language. They had stayed in French everywhere else. On iPhone: - The figures in the weather ribbon stay readable over the brightest bands. - Smoother spot switching: the forecast calculation no longer holds up the display. Fair winds and good waves!

Wind, rebuilt from the ground up: - No more averaging several models together. It smoothed out the coastline: an open-ocean spot could show less wind than a sheltered stretch of water 20 km inland. Tide It now uses the best-resolved model that covers your spot, and speed, gusts and direction all come from that same one - the onshore you are shown is the one that was actually forecast. - That choice was tested against 2,800 hours of genuinely measured wind at 17 coastal points. Fifteen other models and a custom weighting were tried, then dropped: none did better. - The forecast no longer depends on where the pin was dropped. Near a coast, moving it 2 km could change the forecast by 13 knots; the whole sector is now read at once. - The wind station no longer edits the forecast. It confirms the present moment, and only when it is close enough. A reading taken 40 km away tells you nothing about your spot. - The gust warning fired on 8 windy hours out of 10, wrongly half the time. Recalibrated, it now only fires when it really is gusty. Safety thresholds now keep a margin. - The percentage "Go" is gone: a precise but wrong number is worse than no number at all. Window ratings and the "wind is settling in" alert stay. New: - Tide It spots GO windows several days ahead and tells you. The day before, it comes back to say whether the window is holding, or falling apart. - Opening a notification takes you straight to the spot, and the window lights up on the curve. - A camera icon appears in observed wind when a webcam covers the area: over 120 coastal cameras. - The 7-day weather becomes colour ribbons, on the same palette as the wind curve: yellow means the same thing everywhere. - New wind stations, including one sitting on a kite spot and one at Cap Frehel.
