The map no longer sends usage data to our map provider.

Start a community: its page, who can see it, and its people. Suggesting a place or a change is one question at a time, pin first, and we look up its Instagram and Facebook for you. Send a pin in any chat, and save a chat's photos to your phone. Links to places, events and screens open in the app. Owners can manage their place's page. A week of planned power cuts comes as one post with its plan. If signing in fails, the app now says so.

• Live power status on outages in the Nasigdan area: see whether the power is really off in Villa Libertad right now, and when it actually went and came back, next to the announced times. • A room opened from an event page now shows, and Send to… offers your rooms.

The Channels tab is redrawn: the people you talk with are faces, unread ones ringed, their latest words under them. Each room shows who has been talking, and Buy & sell shows what is for sale. Everyone without a photo now has a drawn face of their own. Find friends, or anyone, with the people you follow listed first. A new app icon.

Comment on events and on places' posts: reply, react, and mention people with @. In any chat, hold a message to react to it or reply. Update the app from inside it, without going to the store. Important alerts now reach you at once. On What's on, brownouts are orange and water cuts blue, and your saved places' closures and posts are listed. Signing out takes a second and brings you back to the map.

Follow a band, a group or a festival, and hear when it has a date. What's on opens on everything, with a chip for each collection, like Halloween. Suggest a place from the map's + or when a search finds nothing. The map's satellite view and wind are now under one Layers button, and the list has a button of its own. In any chat, the paperclip shares a place or a page as its card. Sign in with Apple works on Android too.

A first launch asks one thing at a time: visiting or living here, alerts, then your location, so walking times count from where you are. A power cut's page shows which area it hits and which areas you hear about. Send an event to someone in the app, or ask about it in Town talk. A dish on a menu can show its photo. When a newer version is out, a banner above the tabs says so.

What's on: a place's events on one day sit together, scrolling to the end loads later dates, and the date button jumps to any day. An event whose hour isn't set yet says Time TBA, and one without a venue yet says so, with a rough spot on a map. Directory: the card shows what a hirer needs, a worker's profile is their page, and you can message them in the app. A message you send finishes sending after you leave the app. A new welcome screen.

Photos in messages keep sending when you leave the app, show how far they are, and pick up where they stopped. Directory: people who live here can find someone to hire, and list their own work. The eco fee guide, with your receipt kept beside it. Menus say what a dish is and which allergens the menu lists, and you can make a list to show the staff. The map pins and categories wear our own icons. A layout made for iPad.

Find people by name or @handle, follow them and message them. People who follow each other are friends. Buy & sell · Locals: a private group for people who live here. Ask to join, then post. Guides on the map: ATMs and money, the best kitchens, coworking and specialty coffee. Planned closures and changed hours, shown on the place. New Channels tab: news, what is happening right now, and a way to message us — plus a Feedback channel for your ideas. Get alerts for power interruptions, cancelled boats and typhoons, only when they happen. Sunrise, sunset and the tide at a glance, and a softer look throughout.

Add an event from your phone, one question at a time. Call off a single date — it stays on the calendar, struck through, with the reason. Plus fixes.

Bugfix

This is a rebuild rather than an update. Everything below is new. A new map, with places grouped by category and a search that finds them by name. Place pages: opening hours, contact where there is one, and menus with the prices typed out beside the photograph of the board they were read from. Say where you are staying and every place shows how many minutes' walk away it is. Stars, lists and notes, kept on this phone. Still no account, and the location permission is still optional. Every place now states when it was last checked in person, or admits it has not been.
