The Bible
The King James Version is bundled. The American Standard Version, the Bible in Basic English, the World English Bible and Young's Literal Translation download on demand, as do Bibles in other languages, and stay on the phone.
Bible Up is an offline Orthodox daily readings calendar, a Church Fathers library and a gamified Bible reader in one free app. The epistle, the gospel, the saints and the fast for any date, on the Old Calendar or the New, with no sign-up and no ads.
Daily Reading: an Orthodox liturgical calendar that works offline
Tap your avatar and the day is worked out. The epistle and the gospel appointed for that date, the saints commemorated, the name of the feast, and whether it is a fast day: the Lenten Fast, the Dormition Fast, the Nativity Fast. Step back and forward a day at a time, and jump back to today in one tap. Movable feasts are computed from Pascha on the device, so any year works. Switch between the Old Calendar (Julian) and the New Calendar. None of it needs a connection: the calendar ships inside the app, so the readings are there on a plane, in church, or with the signal off.
The Church Fathers, as books you can read
The works themselves, front to back, read like any other book in the app. The Apostolic Fathers are built in and need no download: 1 and 2 Clement, the seven letters of Ignatius, Polycarp to the Philippians, the Martyrdom of Polycarp, the Didache, the Epistle of Barnabas, the Shepherd of Hermas and the Epistle to Diognetus, fifteen works in all. The Ante-Nicene Fathers and both series of the Nicene and Post-Nicene Fathers are downloadable: 37 volumes, 906 works. Athanasius, Augustine, Basil, John Chrysostom, Cyril, Gregory of Nyssa, Irenaeus, Jerome, Justin Martyr, Origen, Tertullian. Early Christian writing and patristics for converts, catechumens, seminarians, and anyone who has wanted the Fathers on their phone.
The Great Books
56 authors, Homer to William James, each downloaded on its own: Plato, Aristotle, Herodotus, Thucydides, Sophocles, Euripides, Virgil, Augustine, Aquinas, Dante, Shakespeare, Milton, Hobbes, Descartes, Kant, Tolstoy, Dostoevsky, Newton and more. They read offline like everything else.
XP, streaks and a reason to come back
Every chapter you read earns XP and moves you up the levels. A reading calendar tracks your daily streak. Achievements unlock as you finish books, XP multipliers grow with your streak and with the books you complete, and a secret-letter game at the end of each chapter hands you the reward. What you unlock goes on your cartoon avatar. The Fathers and the Great Books earn XP and keep the streak going.
Study tools
Full-text search over the Bible, the Church Fathers or the Great Books: pick a corpus and search it. Compare a passage across the translations you have downloaded. Follow cross-references from verse to verse. Highlight in colours you choose, keep notes, set the text size, pick a reading background, and switch between light and dark.
Offline, ad-free, no sign-up
No ads and no advertising SDK, and no advertising identifier is collected. No sign-up, no login, no email address: open the app and read. A daily reminder nudges you if you forget. Once your texts are downloaded, everything above works with no connection.
