The sun was setting on time, but the sky was clocking out a little late. There was a mistake in how solar altitude was applied to the sky colors, so the sky darkened too late after sunset and the timing of the sunset colors was off. This update makes the sun and sky use the same altitude reference and also reflects the sun’s seasonal height. The transition from sunset to the night sky now looks more natural. Now the sky clocks out on time, too.

We’ve been working hard to make the clouds look more like, well, clouds. But clouds being clouds, they keep slipping through our fingers. It’ll take a little more time to get them where we want them. Sorry about that. And if this update feels a little familiar, that’s normal. We took inspiration from the familiar layout of Apple’s Weather app on iOS. We weren’t trying to copy it—we simply wanted the app to feel natural from the first use. If it looks a bit similar… let’s call it a commitment to familiarity. We didn’t come empty-handed, though. - Choose a forecast model yourself, or leave it to Best Match. - Time displays now follow your device’s 12- or 24-hour setting. - We polished the search screen and tidied up a few usability details. This time we focused on refining the UI, but what we really want is still to make weather look more beautiful. We’ll keep making the clouds and the sky prettier.

This update lets you choose the rendering quality yourself—or leave it to Automatic. I spent longer than I'd like to admit deciding whether Flowgraphy should look sharper or move more smoothly. Then I found a very professional solution: I put the decision in Settings. Later I realized choosing a setting is also work, so I added Automatic. My ability to avoid decisions is becoming surprisingly advanced. You can now choose: • Automatic — adjusts resolution for your device's performance and condition • Efficient — 1x · 30 FPS • Smooth — 1x · 60 FPS • High Resolution — 2x · 30 FPS • Maximum Resolution — 2.5x · 30 FPS Automatic monitors GPU load and adjusts the resolution. It also reduces the load in Low Power Mode or when your device gets hot. Maximum Resolution is for anyone who thinks their iPhone has been taking it too easy. Automatic tries to notice before the iPhone files a formal complaint. I also refined cloud movement and shading, adjusted sky and sun colors, and changed how rainbows are rendered. This update spent quite a lot of time looking at clouds. Since last month, I had already begun to think that AI might be better at shader programming than I am. This time, I accepted it and asked with the proper attitude of a student. Kindly, AI introduced me to metaballs. At this point, it is fairly clear who the developer is and who the teacher is. Cloud shadows now have more variety, and the clouds themselves arrive with a little more style. Forecast transitions are smoother, and lightning now illuminates nearby clouds according to where it strikes. They are still clouds made of math, but their acting has improved a little. I also improved performance in the Classic UI and made the rendering path lighter. The clouds became heavier, but fortunately the app did not. Thanks as always to everyone using Flowgraphy Weather. Next, I may work on snow and rain. AI will probably have opinions about those too. Please look forward to it.

This update spends quite a bit of time looking at the sky. Until last month, I was fairly sure AI was not better than me at shader programming. Now I am not completely sure. So the sky colors have been tuned in a more physically grounded way. Sunsets now feel more natural and beautiful. The app also renders the sky at night, improving dawn and nighttime skies. It even accounts for how ozone in the atmosphere changes sunset colors. I also added a 3-day aurora forecast and aurora rendering. The timing is a little funny: many northern aurora spots are in midnight-sun season right now. I added auroras, and then the sky forgot to get dark. When winter comes, try opening the app around Tromsø, Norway. By then, the auroras should finally have a shift to work. While checking Tromsø, I also found that the midnight-sun rendering looked a bit awkward, so I fixed that too. Polar skies where the sun and moon appear together should now feel a little more natural. I also fixed wind speed units in parts of Europe, where m/s was shown instead of km/h.
