For me, as someone who enjoys a good war game/base builder (despite the fake ads…), this game is a breath of fresh air and something that I’ve been waiting to play: a mobile game with growth elements similar to the strategy war games I’ve played — but without the server/Alliance drama that typically comes with them. I’ve also been a Dragon Quest fan since the old NES days (when it was called Dragon Warrior in the U.S.). So far, I’m liking the nostalgia along with the variety of different quests there are to do; I’m slowly and steadily grinding my levels and gear and am enjoying the ride. Thanks, SquareEnix. I hope you all continue to build on this one. Just please don’t fall into the trap of leaning in too much on P2W mechanics 👍

I have been playing Dragon Quest games since I was 11 so I was incredibly excited for this. I had a blast during my first few hours but after a certain point it can feel like you hit a wall in the gameplay if you’re FTP. Since the weapons and armor are the gacha mechanic it gets near impossible to progress at points if you don’t have the appropriate gear. The gameplay mechanics itself can become repetitive quickly especially when trying to grind for more gems (after the novice week is up it’s VERY slow to get more).The events are a great change of pace from the mainline game, and I love the Co-op feature but it can become very disheartening to be unable to move forward just because of bad luck pulling. I would love to be able to keep playing this game and will keep it up for now. I’m hoping these are just growing pains since it’s still so new (I’ve played enough gacha games to know that sometimes it gets better so let’s hope!)

I don’t write many reviews for apps, but I end up playing a lot of games. This one is great on the surface. The world of dragon quest mixed with all the fun of a bullet heaven (or survivor-like). The issues come pretty quickly after getting into it. First off, and my biggest issue, is the crashing. Finish a level? Good chance the game will crash. Trying multiplayer? Crashes, then you’re stuck with lobotomized versions of the players you matched with. Doing a timed mission? Network error at the end, forcing a restart where you may or may not get the required score. It’s awful, like the game isn’t optimized for the mobile devices it’s available for.Secondly, there’s the in app purchases and premium currency. You need 3000 gems for a 10 pull, but only earn 80 on a level cleared with all challenges cleared. This makes grinding a chore for gear you need to progress. And the price of the premium passes? It’s ridiculously greedy. I cannot recommend it in the state that it’s in.

Love the game so far after playing for 2 days i can say it’s addictive i just hope it doesn’t get the shut down treatment so fast. i got bored of DQ Tact and Dai because near endgame grinding was way to much and enemies were to buffed or strong to beat that i left the game. i love the co-op in this game but i wished it wasn’t ticket walled just to co-op. the game main thing is stoping your character from gaining exp later in the story to slow down your play time which you have to rely on defeating metal slimes “which is also a ticket” plus you need a metal weapons to hit or hurt those slimes which is one of the downsides of having to pull for the gacha just to get more exp after the ticket. gameplay wise its really fun but hardmode is on some crazy rules from 1 hp to floating orbs that shred your health. i hope for the good long lasting of this game and many fun features or updates that make the game enjoyable.
