BusLane
Catch Slow USB Connections
Only for Mac
$0.99
Stop guessing which cable is the problem.
BusLane is a lightweight macOS menu bar utility for photographers that reports the connection speeds of your USB devices and alerts you when things go wrong.
Built with professional photographers and digital techs in mind, BusLane monitors USB connection speeds in real time – alerting you when a camera, drive, or other high-speed device is connected at less than 5 Gbps.
Catch problems before they slow you down: damaged cables, underpowered hubs, or misbehaving camera ports. Whether you're tethering on a shoot or offloading footage, BusLane gives you the heads-up you need.
CAMERA DISCONNECTION ALERS: When your camera drops, know the moment it happens – not after another 10 frames.
REAL-TIME USB MONITORING: Instantly see what's connected, and how fast it's running.
SPEED ALERTS: Get notified when cameras, drives, or other high-speed devices are running at USB 2.0 speeds when they should be at 3.2 or 4.0
CUSTOM DEVICE NAMES: Rename any device to something meaningful – great for multi-camera rigs or shared setups.
USB POWER DRAW: Shows device power draw information where available.
IGNORE NON-CRITICAL DEVICES: Filter out hubs, keyboards, and other low-speed peripherals.
STAYS OUT OF YOUR WAY: Check the option to launch at login and BusLane keeps out of the way, until it matters.
A slow drive or camera on set doesn't need to be a mystery.

Connection Tester
Wiggle a cable or press on a connector while BusLane watches. It counts every dropout — including brief flickers macOS silently recovers from — and gives you a verdict: Stable, Marginal, or Unstable. Test a cable, a Mac port, or the camera's own port to find which link in the chain is at fault.
Stress testing for drives
Some faults only appear when the bus is busy. BusLane can push sustained data to a connected drive mid-test and track throughput, flagging links that start fast and collapse under load.
Ping Camera
Ask a camera directly whether it's reachable — and tell a real hardware fault apart from another app already holding the connection, the usual reason Capture One suddenly stops seeing a body.
Webcam mode warning
Cameras that connect in webcam (UVC) mode can't tether. BusLane now spots it and tells you.
Also: a more reliable menu bar icon that recovers if macOS hides it, fewer false "slow device" alerts from hubs and printers, and a copyable plain-text test report.
