Talk to the people around you at the press of a button, with no cell signal and no internet. Talky connects iPhones directly to each other over Wi-Fi and Bluetooth: hold the button, speak, release, and your message reaches everyone in the channel.
HOW IT WORKS, WITH NO SURPRISES
• Everyone needs Talky open, with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth turned on. You do not need to be connected to a network.
• Typical range between two iPhones: 10-30 meters. More outdoors with a clear line of sight, less through walls and floors.
• On the same Wi-Fi network it works wherever the network reaches, including with Talky for Mac.
• Hold to talk: your message is sent the moment you release the button.
• Up to 8 devices connected at the same time.
• Talky is not a radio transceiver: it does not talk to PMR or CB walkie-talkies, only to other devices running Talky.
INTERNET RADIO
More than 300 stations from over 80 countries, streamed over the internet (this part needs a connection). Your iPhone has no FM receiver: the frequency shown next to a station is the one that broadcaster uses on air in its own country.
TALKY PRO
Talky is free with ads. Talky Pro removes the ads and adds all stations, recordings of your transmissions, private channels with a password, themes, history, sleep timer and equalizer. The yearly plan includes a free trial if you have not used one before, and there is also a one-time purchase with no subscription.
LIVE SHORTWAVE AND POC CHANNELS
• HF: listen live to real shortwave stations (aviation weather, time signals, radio amateurs, CB) through public KiwiSDR receivers shared for free by radio amateurs around the world.
• CB: the real citizens band on 27 MHz, all 40 channels plus the DX area (calling on 27.555 USB). Channel up and down, AM, FM, LSB and USB, type any frequency, SCAN that stops when someone transmits and automatic squelch against the hiss.
• POC: listen to public Mumble voice channels where people are talking right now. SCAN stops when someone speaks.
• Listening is free and needs an internet connection. Auto scan and listening with the screen off are part of Talky Pro, or free for 24 hours with a short video.
• On iPhone, HF and POC need iOS 16 or later.

Talky Pro subscription auto-renews at the end of each period unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Payment is charged to your Apple ID account at confirmation of purchase. You can manage and cancel your subscription in your Apple ID Settings.
Downloaded this when it first came out and now the addition of ads and subscription ruined it me 👎🏾
Developer Response
An update on the last thing I told you.The one-time purchase I called "the direction I'm looking at next" exists now: Talky Pro Lifetime, pay once, no subscription. And in version 2.46, submitted today, there is a way to get Pro content without paying at all: you can unlock any Pro radio station for 24 hours by watching one video. The same version also stops the app from requesting ads it cannot show, so there is less of it running in the background than there was.None of that gives you back the app you downloaded before the ads existed. Your complaint was fair then and it is still fair. Thank you for having been there at the start.
Issue on smaller screens
Beatsprout
Seems like a cool app and will continue testing. Issue on iPhone 8, there appears to be no way to access the Talk/Explore/Connections/Settings buttons seen on the bottom of larger screen devices.
Developer Response
Fixed — you and another iPhone 8 owner reported the same thing, and it's sorted in the version now on the App Store. On short screens the bottom bar hides the promo row above it and tightens its spacing, so all four buttons stay reachable. Thanks for testing it properly and writing it down instead of just uninstalling.
Broken
DrOtterz
constantly spammed with connection requests after recent update and can’t find anyone nearby
Developer Response
Both of those are fixed in the version now on the App Store. The app used to re-send invitations automatically every few seconds, which is exactly what produced the flood of prompts — that retry loop is gone, and on a private channel peers now connect without asking you every time. Discovery also had a race: a valid invite from someone standing next to you could be rejected silently, which is why nobody showed up nearby. Also fixed. If it still misbehaves after updating, please write again and I'll dig into it — it's a one-person app and reports like yours are what I work from.
New: real CB radio on 27 MHz.
• All 40 CB channels and the DX area, with the 27.555 USB calling frequency, heard through public KiwiSDR receivers.
• Channel up and down, fine tuning, AM, FM, LSB and USB, type any frequency.
• Auto SCAN: stops when someone transmits (Talky Pro).
• Automatic squelch: no hiss between transmissions.
