Inscribe: Transcriptions & AI
Private offline meeting notes
Free · In‑App Purchases
Every word safe, every note smart. Record with live captions, get on-device AI summaries and action items — private by design, even offline.
Record a meeting, lecture, or interview and watch the text appear as people talk. Your audio and transcripts are not uploaded anywhere to be processed.
Recording, transcription, summaries, speaker labels, and Q&A run 100% on your device. There is no cloud transcription provider, so the work happens locally and keeps going with no internet. No account to create. Optional iCloud sync is off by default.
Inscribe turns audio, video, and documents into searchable text you can question and summarize on Mac, iPhone, and iPad.

Incredible concept still has bugg
Thank you for your feedback. Please update to the latest version of Inscribe to enjoy latest features and improvements.
Recording you can trust:
• Recordings in languages that use the built-in recognizer now save their audio properly — so playback, Follow Along, audio export and recovery all work for them too.
• A recording interrupted by a call, a crash or a low-memory shutdown is handed back to you the next time you open the app.
• Fewer duplicate recovered notes after a very long recording.
Smarter summaries:
• When a summary can't be generated, Inscribe now tells you exactly why — a note that's too long, a language Apple Intelligence doesn't support, or content it declined — and switches to your local AI model when one is installed.
• The on-device model is no longer unloaded in the middle of a summary, so summaries finish faster and fail less.
Easier to get going:
• Onboarding no longer blocks you: every question is optional, so you can start recording straight away.
• Ask Inscribe now suggests questions about your own notes instead of showing an empty box.
• Telling us what isn't working takes a single tap.

Refinements throughout the app, plus a round of stability and reliability fixes.
As always, everything runs on your device: your recordings, transcripts, summaries and answers never go to a transcription or AI cloud.
Thanks for using Inscribe. If something isn't working the way you expect, get in touch — your feedback shapes what comes next.

Recording you can trust:
• If live captions ever stop mid-recording, Inscribe now tells you on the spot — your audio keeps recording, and the full transcript is created the moment you tap stop.
• Fixed a rare case where the microphone could stay active after cancelling a recording.
• More reliable live transcription, especially on Mac.
• Recording durations are now always reported correctly.
Smarter summaries:
• When a summary can't be generated, Inscribe now tells you exactly why — a note that's too long, a language Apple Intelligence doesn't support, or content it declined — and automatically switches to your local AI model when one is installed.
• Fixed rare repeated retry attempts that could run on every app launch.
Plus clearer Restore Purchases messages and plenty of under-the-hood reliability work.
1.9.6 Aug 7
Interrupted recordings are now recovered.
If Inscribe is closed, crashes, or is shut down by iOS while you're recording, your audio is no longer lost — it's waiting in your library the next time you open the app, ready to transcribe.
• Transcription now works in every language Inscribe offers. Norwegian, Turkish, Croatian, Danish, Dutch, Swedish and Russian recordings could previously finish with no text at all.
• Fixed summaries failing moments after opening the app on devices that already had an AI model downloaded.
• If your device can't generate summaries, Inscribe now tells you up front — and lets you carry on without them instead of showing an error on every note.
• The recorder now tells you when the first words will appear while the transcription model warms up.
• An AI model download that gets interrupted now finishes on its own.

Export the audio from your voice notes.
EXPORT AUDIO
Save or share the original recording from any voice note — send it to Files, another app, or drag it straight out. The audio you captured is yours to take anywhere.
Plus a round of stability and reliability fixes.
As always, everything runs on your device: your recordings, transcripts, summaries and answers never go to a transcription or AI cloud.

Save web pages, clean up your library faster, and get your photos back out.
WEB PAGES
Add any article to Inscribe and get its text, summary, and action items like any other note. Share a link from Safari, tap Add Link and paste, or paste a copied link straight into the library. Everything is still processed on your device.
SELECT MULTIPLE NOTES
Tap Select to pick several notes at once, then delete, tag, pin, or file them into a project in one go — instead of one at a time.
TAGS, WHERE YOU CAN FIND THEM
Create a tag right from the library, and add tags from inside any note. Drag a note onto a tag to apply it.
YOUR IMAGES, YOURS AGAIN
Share or save any imported photo back to Photos, Files, or another app — or drag it straight out. You can also re-analyze an image to read it again, which is useful if you've since set up a better on-device model.
DRAG AND DROP
Drop files and links anywhere on your library to import them. Drag notes onto projects and tags to organize them.
ALSO
• Very short notes no longer get an AI summary, where results weren't reliable
• Pasted and shared text notes now display properly instead of as a file preview

Image Understanding — Inscribe can see your photos now
Turn on the optional image-understanding model and imported photos get a real description of what is actually in them, instead of a list of detected subjects. It downloads only if you ask for it, and it runs on your device like everything else. Text in images is read either way.
A better transcription model
Parakeet replaces the Whisper models Inscribe used to offer. In our published English benchmark it was more accurate than every Whisper model we shipped, and it takes less space than Whisper Small did. If you had Whisper models downloaded, this update reclaims that storage for you automatically.
Fixes and polish
Linked files in a project now open straight from the project, and Back returns you there. Plus a round of stability fixes across importing and background processing.
As always, everything runs on-device: your recordings, transcripts, summaries, images, and answers never go to a transcription or AI cloud.
1.8.9 Jul 21
Meeting reminders — never miss a note
Link a meeting from your calendar and Inscribe reminds you to record before it starts. Your calendar stays on your device.
Related Notes
Each note now surfaces the others it connects to, so past recordings and documents come back right when you need them.
Name speakers on any recording
Renaming speakers used to work only while recording. Now you can rename them on imported and existing notes too — and the change flows everywhere the speaker appears: colored headers, the outline, playback highlighting, and exports.
Collapsible sections & editable dates
Summary, Action Items, Decisions, and Key Points now fold away like Extracted Content. Tap a note's date to fix it — handy for imported audio.
Faster, cleaner deletes
Deleting a note now cancels any transcription or summary still running in the background.
As always, everything runs on-device: your recordings, transcripts, summaries, and answers never go to a transcription or AI cloud.
1.8.8 Jul 18
Turn your notes into knowledge — privately, on your device.
• Flashcards — Turn any recording, note, or document into flip-through study cards, generated entirely on-device. Export them as Markdown or Anki-ready CSV.
• Translate anything — Translate a summary or a full transcript into any of 15 languages, without your text ever leaving your device. Keep translations right alongside your saved summaries.
• Your own summary styles — Create custom templates like "Meeting minutes" or "Executive brief" and set one as your default. Every new recording and import is summarized your way, automatically.
• Find notes in Spotlight — Your notes now appear in iPhone and Mac system search. Tap a result to jump straight into the note.
• Handoff — Reading a note on your iPhone? Pick it up instantly on your Mac, and vice versa.
Plus: a clearer view of your free-plan usage, and smoother summary regeneration.
1.8.7 Jul 15
This update makes Inscribe smarter — and everything still runs 100% on your device.
• Follow Along — tap any line of a transcript to jump the audio to that exact moment, and watch the transcript highlight in sync as it plays.
• AI-checked transcription — Inscribe now detects phrases the transcriber wasn't sure about and quietly fixes mishearings using on-device AI. Your recordings never leave your device.
• Better long recordings — summaries now grow with the length of your meeting instead of compressing everything to a few paragraphs, and action items are captured from the entire recording, not just the first few minutes.
• Weekly Review — a new recap in the Action Center every week: highlights, decisions you made, and a suggested focus for the week ahead.
• Improved iCloud sync reliability and bug fixes.
1.8.6 Jul 14
• Pin notes to keep them at the top of your library
• Filter by type, project, tag, or date — and sort by newest, oldest, title, or recently modified
• Find in note: search inside any transcript, with highlighted matches
• New notifications: a morning digest of due action items, deadline reminders, and an optional weekly briefing — all created on-device, nothing leaves your phone
1.8.5 Jul 9
Unlock Inscribe just got clearer. We've redesigned the upgrade screen to show exactly what you get and what each plan costs, added a new annual plan that saves you 67%, and made it easy to go unlimited right from Settings. As always: everything stays on your device, and nothing is ever tracked.
1.8.3 Jul 7
More iCloud sync improvements in this update:
- Fixed an issue where sync could get stuck after deleting projects
- Sync problems now show clear, specific details in Settings instead of a generic error
- Better automatic recovery — temporary iCloud hiccups no longer ask you to rebuild
Also: items can now be deleted on the free plan.
Thanks to everyone who wrote in about sync — your reports directly shaped this update.
1.8.2 Jul 4
This update makes iCloud sync noticeably more reliable:
- Fixed an issue where onboarding could re-appear and starter projects could get duplicated after a sync rebuild, your personalization is restored automatically
- Routine iCloud maintenance now shows as “Syncing” instead of incorrectly asking you to rebuild
Thanks to everyone who reported sync issues, this update is for you.
1.8.1 Jul 3

• Create tags with your own names and colors for recordings, documents, images, and video
• Filter your library instantly by tag
• Rename or delete tags anytime — your content is never touched
• Tags sync securely across your devices with iCloud

1.7.9 Jul 1
• Speaker labels: When a recording or imported audio has more than one
voice, Inscribe now identifies who's speaking and labels the transcript
• Per-project AI: New AI Settings for each project. Choose a tone for your
summaries (Business, Personal, Creative, Academic, or your own custom
instructions), and decide whether reminders are extracted automatically
• Add reminders yourself: A new quick-add lets you jot a reminder and set
when it's due using everyday phrases like "tomorrow" or "Friday."
• Bug fixes and improvements

What's New in Inscribe
• Two new summary styles — Generate Action Items (a checklist-first view of tasks, key points, and decisions) or a clean Outline with grouped headings. Pick a style up front or reformat any existing summary in a tap
• Edit and regenerate — Fix up a transcript or description, then "Save & Regenerate Summary" to get a fresh summary from your edits.
• Rename anything — Give your projects and saved content clearer names whenever you like
• Save your favorites — Bookmark any summary to keep it in your new Saved collection for quick reference later
• Personalize without starting over — Update your interests, content types, and AI preferences anytime in Settings — no need to re-run onboarding
• iCloud sync improvements
Plus localization improvements and stability fixes.
1.7.6 Jun 21
What's New — Capture by voice
You can now flag important moments during a recording just by speaking.
• Say "action item: send the proposal", "decision: ship Tuesday", or "key point: the demo lands well" and Inscribe captures it at that timestamp.
• A confirmation flashes so you know it was heard.
• Opt-in per command under Settings → Voice Commands.
English only for now — more languages coming.
