more I love the simple design and the focus on privacy. It would be nice to see which features are part of pro beforehand. I’m still within the trial period and am curious what will be still be accessible after that ends.It would also be nice to see a way to sync with a self-hosted cloud service—like with WebDAV. As well as a way to set new episode notifications per show.Overall loving this and excited to see what this becomes!Edit: Originally, I missed the option to import/export OPML in the settings. I also originally stated that the interface was very sluggish and often took a second or two between keystrokes. This was true when I first downloaded the app, but has gotten better. It is still a little sluggish when searching for and adding a podcast, but not as bad as before.
Developer Response Thank you for the review. I will look into some of your suggestions. The app currently does support OPML import/export (in Settings). I update the app pretty frequently. I just fixed a bunch of minor bugs new version coming soon.

Love the elegant simplicity. Thank you for this great alternative to the over commercialized other players out there! Nice App!

It really doesn’t have many key features that other “free” apps have. When I emailed support I got no reply. $1 wasted.

• Quicker mini player: swipe up to open the player, or touch and hold for playback speed, sleep timer and skip controls.

• Accessibility: easier-to-read accent colors in Dark Mode and with Increase Contrast, clearer VoiceOver labels throughout, and layouts that adapt to the largest text sizes.

Modcast on the web (Beta) — new with Modcast Plus
Listen in any web browser at modcaststudios.app/modcast/player. Sign in with your Apple Account and your shows, Releases, Up Next and your place in every episode are already there, kept in step with your iPhone, iPad and Apple TV. Pause on your computer and pick up on your phone where you left off. It’s private by design: everything stays in your own iCloud, with no Modcast account and no server reading what you listen to.
iPad, without pop-ups
On iPad, Now Playing, Queue, Downloads, Bookmarks, Discover, the Sleep Timer and Modcast Plus now open beside the sidebar instead of floating over the app. Episode details, transcripts, chapters, show settings and Add Podcast open as pages in the same space with a Back button. Close one and you’re right where you were.
Also
iCloud Sync works again for shows using the newer per-show settings (video as audio, hide played, auto-download choices).
Web Player now appears among the Modcast Plus features.
Note: HLS Podcast are not working in Web Player Yet. More to Come

Modcast 2.03: The Big Tidy-Up
We went through every screen with a fine-tooth comb, and with a slightly embarrassing amount of coffee.
Video, done right
• Video podcasts now actually show you the video. Some shows were quietly playing only the sound. Rude. Fixed.
• Downloads of video episodes now save the picture too, so you can watch on the plane.
• Want a show as audio only? Set it per show in Show Settings, and Modcast remembers.
A fresh look for shows and episodes
• Show pages have a new header with a big Play Latest button, and everything you can do with a show is in one tidy menu.
• Hide played episodes for each show, or for every show at once.
• The player has been rebuilt, with episode details and chapters one tap away.
• The sleep timer is now a quick menu right from the moon. Fewer taps between you and your nap.
Easier to get around
• Search has its own tab and finds shows, episodes and even transcripts.
• Settings is organized into clear sections.
• Following a new show no longer floods Releases with its entire back catalogue. You get the newest couple of episodes. The rest wait politely on the show’s page.
Play from anywhere
• New Control Center button: play or pause without opening the app.
• Ask Siri to “play the latest from” any show you follow.
Calmer and more accessible
• Fewer pop-ups and fewer buzzes. Your phone no longer vibrates like it has opinions.
• Text follows your preferred text size, including the player controls.
• Better VoiceOver labels, plus Play Next and Add to Queue actions right on episode rows.
• Gentle placeholders instead of spinning wheels while things load.
Fixes
• Unplayed counts no longer say “0 unplayed” when you clearly have homework.
• Plus a pile of small fixes and speed-ups.
Happy listening (and now, really, watching)!
2.24 Oct 11
A cleaner Modcast that listens better (to you and to Siri)
• A simpler player. Artwork, controls, and the current chapter. Tap the chapter name to jump anywhere in the episode. Show notes and bookmarks are a tap away under •••.
• Siri knows your shows. Say “Play the latest Connected in Modcast” and it does. No scrolling, no squinting.
• Control Center button. Add Play or Pause Modcast to Control Center, the Lock Screen or the Action button.
• Sleep timer in one tap. Tap the moon and pick 15, 30, 45 minutes, an hour, or the end of the episode. Sweet dreams.
• Redesigned show pages. Big artwork, one Play button, and a tidy ••• menu for everything else. Each show now has its own Hide Played Episodes setting, so one show’s housekeeping no longer rearranges all the others.
• Episode pages that get to the point. Full titles, show notes first, and a Resume button that tells you how much is left.
• A helpful empty Queue. If you’re halfway through something, the Queue offers to pick it up.
Smaller things.
Unplayed counts are right the moment you subscribe; no more “0 unplayed” on a show with 600 episodes.
Fewer pop-up messages telling you what you just did.
Real alerts when something goes wrong.
Queue is in the iPad sidebar.
Clearer Playback settings.
2.23 Oct 9
Modcast now works on more TVs, and finds things faster
• AirPlay video to any TV. Video episodes now play on Samsung, LG, Sony and other AirPlay TVs, not just Apple TV. Casting mid-episode picks up where you left off. Turn on Settings → Playback → Send Video to AirPlay Screens.
• Search gets its own tab. Find shows, episodes and even what was said inside transcribed episodes, from anywhere in the app.
• A calmer Releases. Following a new show now brings in its latest two episodes, not its entire back catalogue. Your inbox no longer opens with "1,281 waiting." Older episodes are still on the show's page.
• A smarter Home. Continue Listening shows how much time is left, with a play button right there. Up Next lists what's coming instead of just linking to it.
• A tidier Settings. One long scroll is now a few clear pages: Playback, Downloads & Storage, Notifications, Appearance and more.
• Small things that add up. Episode lengths read "1 hr 31 min" instead of "1:30:54." Releases and Queue have icons you can tell apart. Play All now says Play All. And Modcast matches your iPhone's light or dark mode, with standard iOS lists and menus throughout.
• New widgets. New Episodes now comes in a large size. Listening Streak works on the Lock Screen and in medium and large sizes.
• Fixes. Releases no longer forgets what you've downloaded, and show notes stop repeating themselves. Build Queue has been retired after a long career of building nothing.

What's New in Modcast
This update is all about making Modcast feel like it was born on your iPhone. Fewer custom gizmos, more of the controls you already know by heart.
• The mini player now follows you everywhere. Pausing from a podcast page no longer requires a scavenger hunt.
• Add Podcast starts with search. Type a show's name and tap Add. Feed URLs are still welcome, just no longer required homework.
• A new System look is the default: clean, familiar, unmistakably iOS. Your favorite color theme is still one tap away in Settings.
• More of the app now follows your iPhone's text size setting.
• Episode pages put the show notes up front, tuck actions into the ••• menu, and add Share Episode.
• The player is calmer: swipe down to close, and transcripts live in the bottom row.
• Releases are grouped into Today, This Week and Earlier, instead of a separate heading for every episode.
• Play buttons now turn into Pause on the episode that's playing. Revolutionary, we know.
Fixes
• Show notes no longer repeat their first paragraph. We heard you the first time. And the second.
• Section headings no longer hide behind the search bar on Home.
• Smoother performance with big libraries, and quicker cleanup when deleting lots of downloads.
