Zero Duplicates compares files by their content, not by their names. A renamed download, an attachment saved twice, a document copied into three folders: all of them are found, even when the file names look nothing alike.

After further investigation, the problem wasn’t the app at all — it was iCloud Drive’s “Optimize Storage” feature. When that setting is active, iCloud can hang while trying to access files, which caused the app to appear frozen for hours with no progress. That’s an Apple/iCloud limitation, not a flaw in the app itself.I also want to note there was a delay in the developer’s response, but they did follow up.The app actually does what it promises. If you’re running into similar issues, check your iCloud settings first — disabling Optimize Storage before scanning made all the difference. Giving credit where it’s due.

You've identified the issue precisely: with iCloud's Optimize Storage active, the system's file provider has to fetch files on demand and can stall, which the app can't speed up on its end. Your tip about disabling it before scanning is solid advice and will help others. I'm looking into detecting cloud-only files so I can warn users up front. Glad it's working well for you now.

Thanks for taking the time to write this review and I'm glad you were able to reclaim some storage space. I've just implemented and released Auto Select for specific folders in version 1.5. Now you can, like in the macOS app, select which duplicates from which folders you would like to select for deletion. Some cloud apps do not allow access to 3rd party apps besides the Files app. I would love to make this possible but this is unfortunately nothing I could implement. If there is anything else, feel free to reach out via the feedback function in the app or via mail.

Scans keep running while you use other apps, and a notification tells you when the results are ready.
Switch off individual subfolders before a scan.
After a cleanup, a summary shows how much space you freed, with an option to share it.
Files stored only in the cloud are skipped instead of downloaded, and the results say how many.
Send feedback directly from Settings, and find the new app icon on your Home Screen.
