iPhone
The iPhone Sky Time Machine. Throughout time, builders have aligned to the stars. Point along any line and discover which star they were watching.
The iPhone tool for discovering which stars and planets rise and set along any alignment, today and thousands of years ago. Reveal the celestial connections hidden in ancient monuments, sacred sites, or your own backyard.
WHAT IS COSMIC COMPASS?
Point your iPhone along any structure: a temple axis, a stone circle, a pyramid edge, a garden wall. Cosmic Compass records the precise bearing using GPS, compass and camera. It then calculates which stars and planets rise or set along that line, and when they did so throughout history.
Throughout time, builders have aligned their monuments to the stars, using the sky as an eternal calendar to mark sacred moments.
Does that Neolithic monument face the rising of Sirius? Which star rose along a Maya temple axis in 900 AD? Did the builders catch Venus at dawn? Or which stars rise along your own street?
A JOURNEY THROUGH TIME
Calculate star and planet positions for any year from 5000 BC to 3000 AD. Set the year a temple was built and see exactly where Sirius, Venus or the Pleiades rose when it was new. Capture a line of sight from your house, set a future date and save an upcoming alignment to your calendar.
This matters because the sky changes over millennia. Precession slowly wobbles Earth’s axis, shifting star positions by about 1° every 72 years. On top of that, every star drifts across the sky on its own path. For fast-moving stars such as Arcturus and Sirius, this proper motion moves the rising point by several degrees since the age of the pyramids. Cosmic Compass combines the Vondrák long-term precession model with measured proper motions from the Hipparcos star catalogue, so each star appears where ancient builders actually saw it.
Planets wander against the fixed stars. Cosmic Compass calculates them with VSOP87, the planetary theory used by professional observatories.
THE MOON’S SECRET CYCLE
Every 18.6 years, the Moon reaches its most extreme rising and setting points: the lunar standstills. Ancient cultures from Scotland to New Mexico built monuments aligned to these rare events. Cosmic Compass detects lunar standstill alignments, revealing connections that occur only twice in a generation.
HOW IT WORKS
Point your iPhone along an alignment and tap to capture. Your bearing is stored with GPS coordinates and a photo. Results appear instantly: the stars and planets that rise or set along your line, ranked by precision. Celestial Convergence reveals when a star and a planet share the same alignment.
The calculations are accurate to better than an arcminute, far more precise than any phone sensor. For the best measurements, calibrate your compass and capture away from metal and cars.
