I’m all in for love stories. And what’s better than getting to play a small role in one? That’s basically what being a matcher on Rivet feels like. Can’t upload photos

The app won’t let me upload any photos. And anytime I do, it links to the photo guidelines. I’m not trying to upload malicious photos, and I would argue all the ones I’ve tried to upload fall under what they’re looking for. The amount of times I had to retry the profile photos is insane. I finally got through that and got stuck at the uploading screenshots to “catch your vibe” and I could not get a single photo to upload, so I had to skip that part. Now it’s saying I don’t have a good enough “head shot” so I uploaded my headshot from work and it keeps giving me an error, saying my eyes are not open. I’m sorry I have squintier eyes than the perfect ai produced bs photos you have on the marketing. That’s kind of ridiculous. I get the idea of weeding out bad or inappropriate photos, and I appreciate the effort. But if it’s not going to accept real professional photos of me, then it doesn’t work.

Poor execution

It’s really more of a tech demo than a dating app at this point. The use of speech-to-text and AI inference to help people fill out self summaries seems clever, but poorly implemented. It decided “love of the beach” was my most defining characteristic because 2 out of 6 of my photos showed a beach. You can manually edit this, but days later it’s still matching me based on “love of the beach”. Which brings us to their biggest flaw. Seeing your matches is based on acquiring points. They show you one profile snippet and charge you points to interact with said profile. Unfortunately if you don’t like the suggested match you have to spend points to un-match. 🤯 They make you earn points just to remove a match!?!

I'm as pro-AI as anyone you'll meet. I use it professionally and there may be issues with it overall but it's the future and we should embrace it. The way they took my round face and skinny body and replaced it with basically an obese person as my avatar was so incredibly jarring and their response was so condescending. It was shocking.I've literally been on dating apps for 30 years and freelanced as a marketer for one. I reached out to their CEO to offer advice and they blew me off twice. I was hoping maybe they learned from the horrible way that Match Group has run but it just sounds like the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
