**72-hour Kp forecast**
View detailed forecasts of geomagnetic activity for the next 3 days. The Kp index indicates how likely the northern lights are to be visible at your location. Kp values of 6–7 or higher mean the northern lights may be visible in the Netherlands and Belgium.
**60–90 minute energy forecast**
Get real-time forecasts of expected aurora energy. These short-term forecasts are based on GEOS satellite measurements and give you a clear idea of when aurora activity will reach Earth.
**Local and horizon forecasts**
See not only what’s directly above you, but also what’s visible on the horizon. The app shows energy forecasts for your local position (within 100 km) and for activity 1000 km away, which is often visible on the horizon because of aurora altitude (100–300 km).
**Moon phase and cloud cover**
Plan your aurora chase with moon phase, moonrise and moonset, and local cloud cover. Knowing when the moon sets and the sky is clear can make the difference between seeing the northern lights or not.
**ACE data for the best moment**
The app uses real-time solar wind data from the ACE satellite (Advanced Composition Explorer). ACE sits 1.5 million kilometres from Earth, between the Sun and Earth, measuring speed, density and magnetic field. That gives you about half an hour to an hour of advance notice of what’s heading to Earth — exactly when to go outside for the best chance to see the northern lights.
**Smart notifications**
Set your own thresholds for Kp index and aurora energy. Get automatic alerts when conditions are favourable for visible northern lights. Notifications repeat about every 15 minutes while values stay above your thresholds.
**Clear visualisations**
All data is shown in clear, colour-coded charts. The blue line in the charts marks the current time, so you can see at a glance which forecasts have passed and which are still to come.
