Version 1.2 fixes a bug that could leave the canvas blank, adds clearer messages for files that can't be drawn, and improves large-file performance.
SVG Viewer opens scalable vector files the way a native Mac app should: instantly, at full quality,
without uploading anything to a website or launching a design suite you don't need.
WHAT IT DOES
• Opens .svg and compressed .svgz files — double-click, drag and drop, or File > Open
• True vector zoom, so lines stay sharp no matter how far in you go
• Mini Map that shows where you are in large artwork — click or drag it to jump
• Any background colour, so you can check transparency against white, black or your brand colour
• Clean printing with the interface hidden and colours preserved
• Light and Dark mode, following your system
WHY IT'S DIFFERENT
Most viewers fail silently. If a file uses something no browser engine can draw — Inkscape flowed
text, auto-wrapped SVG 2 text, an icon sprite sheet, or images linked instead of embedded — you get
a blank canvas and no explanation.
SVG Viewer tells you exactly what it found and what to change to fix it. It also repairs damaged
files where it can, and says so, instead of rendering nonsense.
BUILT FOR REAL FILES
Tested against genuine output from Adobe Illustrator and Pixelmator Pro across many versions, plus
Inkscape, Figma, Sketch, Affinity, CorelDRAW, draw.io and matplotlib. Legacy text encodings,
XML entity definitions and physical units (mm, cm, in, pt) all handled correctly.
PRIVATE BY DESIGN
Your files never leave your Mac. Scripts embedded in an SVG are blocked, and remote content is
blocked by a strict content policy. Sandboxed, and under a megabyte.

Fixed a bug that could leave the canvas blank after opening a file. If artwork was not appearing
for you, this release fixes it.
• Dragging a file onto an already-open document now works
• Adobe Illustrator files using XML entity definitions render correctly
• Legacy text encodings (Shift_JIS, Windows-1252 and others) display properly
• Artwork sized in percentages or physical units reports the correct zoom and prints at the right size
• Files with an internal stylesheet no longer disturb the interface
• Resizing the window keeps artwork centred
• Files using features no browser engine can draw are now explained, with the fix, instead of
failing silently
• Damaged files are repaired where possible and clearly flagged
• Large drawings use noticeably less memory
