Lock the App with Face ID Keep your notes for your eyes only. Turn on the app lock in Settings, and LocalNotebook asks for Face ID (or Touch ID) every time you open it. Like everything else in the app, it works entirely on your iPad. Faster, Smoother Notes Writing and scrolling are now much faster and smoother, especially on pages full of ink, and your notes take up less space on your iPad. Previously, ink-heavy pages could feel sluggish as you wrote. Hide the Recording Bar Want a cleaner page? You can now hide the audio recording bar - turn it off by default in Settings, or hide it for a single note. When space is tight, it also tidies itself onto its own row. Resize the Sidebars Drag the edge of the page list or the transcript panel to set it to the width you want, and each note remembers how you left it. A Roomier Editor The toolbar now floats above your page and the separate navigation bar is gone, giving you more room to write and a cleaner, less cluttered look. Cleaner Imported PDFs When you import a PDF to write on, the page grid no longer shows through it - so slides, sheet music, and documents stay crisp and clean.

Edit Shapes After You Draw Them Tap any shape to select it, then drag its handles to reshape it, or move it from anywhere inside. A quick tap menu lets you duplicate or delete it. Previously, a drawn shape was fixed once you lifted your pen. Clean Up Your Shapes Automatically Draw a rough circle, line, or rectangle and hold still for a moment, and it snaps into a clean, precise shape. You can adjust how long to hold, or turn it off, in Settings. Select and Transform Images Anytime Tap any image to select it - in any tool - then move, resize, or rotate it with your finger or Pencil. You no longer have to switch tools first. Snap to the Grid and Your Shapes Drawing and moving now line up neatly to the page grid and to your existing shapes. Adjust the snap distance, or turn snapping off, in Settings. Laser Pointer A new laser pointer puts a glowing dot and fading trail under your Pencil - ideal for drawing attention while presenting or screen-sharing. Pick its color and toggle the trail in its options. Hide the Status Bar Tuck away the iOS status bar for a cleaner, distraction-free page. It is on by default now, and you can change it in Settings. A New Eraser Look The eraser offers a new white-pen style that looks like a clean white stroke as you wipe across the page. It erases exactly as before - only the look changed.

Automatic On-Device Transcription Your audio recordings are now transcribed to text automatically - entirely on your iPad. As you play a recording back, the transcript reads along and highlights each word, and you can tap any word to jump the audio straight to that moment. Search and Edit Your Transcripts Find any moment in a recording by searching its transcript for what was said. You can also correct any mis-heard words, with low-confidence words highlighted so you know where to look. Export a Memo Export a transcript to PDF with timestamps and optionally an audio file. It's a great way to review past lectures without replaying the whole recording. Presentation Mode A new full-screen mode shows one page at a time with no on-screen clutter. A light tap on the left or right turns pages, a tap in the center shows or hides the controls, and your pen keeps working throughout - ideal for following sheet music or presenting slides. Choose Your Recording Quality Pick the audio quality that fits the moment in Settings - from compact voice recordings to high-fidelity capture. The new default keeps everyday recordings about four times smaller. Note Counts in the Sidebar The library sidebar now shows how many notes are in each subject at a glance.

Add Photos While Recording You can now add photos while recording audio. Take a picture of the whiteboard during a lecture or add images from your photo library—all without stopping your recording. Previously, the photo options didn't respond while audio was recording. Instant Image Selection When you add an image from your camera or photo library, it's now automatically selected. You can immediately resize, move, or rotate the image without having to tap it first. The tool automatically switches to selection mode for you. Full-Screen Camera The camera now opens in full-screen mode when taking photos to add to your notes, giving you a better view of your shot. Instant Ghost Note Playback Ghost notes now appear immediately after you finish recording. Previously, you had to close and reopen the note to see your strokes replay during audio playback. Cross-Page Object Rendering Objects that span multiple pages now render correctly everywhere. When you move or resize a stroke or image so it extends onto adjacent pages, it now displays properly in the editor, PDF exports, and all thumbnail previews. The correct layering is maintained even when objects from different pages overlap. Better Navigation Sidebar Thumbnails Images and PDF backgrounds now display correctly in the navigation sidebar's page thumbnails. Previously, some pages appeared incomplete in the sidebar preview.

PDF Bookmarks Export Your bookmarks travel with your PDFs. When you export a note, any bookmarks and bookmark folders you've created are embedded as PDF bookmarks (also called outlines). Open the exported PDF in any reader and you'll see your bookmarks in the sidebar, preserving the same folder structure you organized in the app. Jump directly to important pages without scrolling. Smarter PDF Import Importing PDFs is now smoother. The filename of your imported PDF automatically becomes the suggested note title—no more typing it out manually. We also fixed an issue where importing certain PDFs would create an unnecessary blank page at the end. Sharper PDF Rendering PDFs look better at every zoom level. We fixed an issue that caused straight lines and text to appear jagged when slightly zoomed out, and eliminated a flickering effect that could occur at maximum zoom. PDF pages now render crisply whether you're viewing the full page or zoomed in on fine details. Scroll Past the Tool Options The tool options bar no longer blocks your view. When the bar appears, your note automatically adjusts so you can scroll to see content that would otherwise be hidden behind it. Better PDF Metadata Exported PDFs now include proper metadata—the title matches your note's name, making it easier to identify your documents in other apps and file browsers. Smaller PDF Exports Exported PDFs with embedded images are now more compact. Images are intelligently compressed during export, reducing file sizes while maintaining quality. Improved Memory Usage The app now uses less memory when working with the navigation sidebar. Closing the sidebar releases cached resources, keeping the app responsive during long editing sessions. Navigation Sidebar Navigate multi-page notes with ease. A new sidebar gives you a bird's-eye view of every page in your note. Tap any page thumbnail to jump directly to it, or scroll through the sidebar while keeping your place in the document. The sidebar automatically tracks which page you're viewing and highlights it. Page Bookmarks Mark important pages for quick access. Create bookmarks from the sidebar's context menu, then find them instantly in the Bookmarks tab. Organize your bookmarks into folders with drag-and-drop—perfect for structuring study materials, meeting notes, or project documentation. Your bookmarks save with the note and are there whenever you return. Page Management Rearrange your notes without leaving the editor. From the navigation sidebar, you can add pages before or after any existing page, duplicate pages with all their content, rotate pages 90 degrees, clear a page's contents, or delete pages entirely. Long-press any page thumbnail to access these options. Better Page Thumbnails Thumbnails now show your notes exactly as they appear in the editor. Paper texture backgrounds render properly in both the library grid and the navigation sidebar, using the same high-quality Metal rendering as the main editor. Partial Eraser Erase precisely. The new Partial eraser mode lets you erase just the portions of strokes you touch, instead of removing entire strokes. Perfect for fixing small mistakes without losing your whole word or line. Switch between Whole Stroke and Partial modes in the eraser tool options. Rotate Your Selections Move, resize, and now rotate. Selected objects can be rotated using two-finger gestures, giving you complete control over positioning your handwriting, drawings, and images. Combine rotation with scaling and translation in a single gesture for effortless arrangement. Remember Where You Left Off Notes now remember your exact scroll position and zoom level. When you return to a note—even after closing the app—you'll be right where you left off. No more scrolling to find your place. Smoother Live Ink Handwriting feels more natural than ever. We completely rebuilt the stroke rendering system to eliminate lag at the pencil tip and visual artifacts at sharp turns. Your ink now flows smoothly from the moment the pencil touches the screen. Performance That Scales Write as much as you want without slowdown. We fixed performance issues that caused the app to become sluggish on pages with lots of ink. The app now stays responsive whether you're on a fresh page or one filled with notes. Better Thumbnails Note thumbnails now accurately show your notes as they appear in the editor—including eraser marks, grid lines, and paper backgrounds. What you see in the library matches what you get when you open the note. Tool Settings for Eraser and Lasso Set your preferred eraser mode (Whole Stroke or Partial) and lasso style (Freeform or Boxed) in Settings. Each note can also remember its own preferences, so your tools work exactly how you left them. Easier Navigation Tap anywhere on a note row to open it—not just the title. The tool options bar now appears smoothly without shifting your note content up and down.
