Your days, in chapters. Revisit weekly and monthly books, see the threads in your story, and add the details only you can tell.
Doris brings the moments of your life together as a personal journal. A Doris Premium subscription is required to use the app and its AI chapter-writing service.
Save a note, add a photograph, or choose the connections that give your day context. Doris helps turn those moments into daily chapters you can read, edit, and keep.
YOUR STORY, IN YOUR VOICE
Small check-ins add what only you can tell: how you felt, what mattered, and what you want to remember. Doris uses your wording and writing preferences while keeping events in sequence. Review and correct your journal whenever you need to.
DAILY PAGES, WEEKLY AND MONTHLY BOOKS
Read your saved days together by week or month, with their original photographs. Open a full-screen reader when you want more room for the story. Unfinished books show that they are still building.
THE THREADS THROUGH YOUR DAYS
See familiar topics across your journal, from walks and cooking to family and travel. Feeling themes appear only when you have recorded those emotions. The chart counts days, not intensity.
CHOOSE YOUR CONNECTIONS
Optional sources such as Photos, Calendar, Apple Health, music, and location can add context. You decide what to share. Permission settings show the access you have granted and help you manage your choices.
KEEP AND EXPORT YOUR JOURNAL
Revisit your saved entries and export supported books as EPUB, print PDF, or Markdown. Doris checks for unavailable original photographs before creating a photo-complete book.
YOUR DATA AND AI
Doris sends the context needed to write a chapter through its authenticated AI service. Depending on your choices, this can include moment text, times, place labels, authorized Health summaries, profile context, and explicit imports. Photo understanding has its own consent. AI can make mistakes; the evidence and editing controls help you check your story.

2.1.7 3d ago
Read daily, weekly and monthly journals in a full-screen reader, with your original photos close to the story.
This update improves journal voice, chronological ordering and weekly/monthly book checks. Period books retain more of your saved entries and photographs, show common themes, and notify you when a reviewed book is ready.
Kindle EPUB export joins print PDF and Markdown. Missing original photos are now reported before an incomplete book can be shared. We've also improved profile reminders, journal diagnostics and responsiveness.
2.1.6 5d ago
What you write stays yours.
A chapter you have edited is no longer replaced by a newly generated one. A newer machine-written copy could win over your edit while keeping its edit date; Doris now refuses any automatic rewrite of a chapter you have changed, on your iPhone and on the server.
The sentences you type onto a photo or a moment now reach that day's chapter even when the AI is unavailable. They appear in Evidence with the time you wrote them, exactly as you wrote them, spelling included.
Something you choose to withhold from a day now leaves the page itself, including the Key Moments list, not only the links behind it.
Also in this update:
If you allow State of Mind in Health, the feelings and daily moods you log there can become part of your journal, described with the feelings you picked. Doris only reads them, and never guesses a feeling you did not record.
Older journals are easier to reach. Small previous and next arrows, a clear way into the contents, and a page indicator sit around each chapter, and turning pages respects Reduce Motion.
Doris asks better questions. There are 100 new questions shaped by what actually happened in your day, and ten writing styles to choose from, the original four among them. When you answer a calendar question, "Yes, it happened" and "I'm not sure" are now different answers. A question about a photo of people no longer guesses who someone is, and skipping it is never taken as a name.
A holiday that sits on your calendar is no longer written as something you attended.
Places you visit are recognized more carefully. Two branches with the same name stay separate, a nearby place Doris cannot tell apart is no longer guessed, and a correction you make is remembered.
Doris lets you know when a source it relies on has been switched off, and tells a choice you made apart from something that stopped working. The Open Settings button in Connections now opens Settings.
Chapters with many photos stop saving themselves over and over, and repeated sentence openings are tidied without touching anything you wrote.
2.1.5 Sep 16
Your day now runs from waking to bedtime.
A chapter used to stop wherever the last daytime photo, place or workout happened to be, so an
evening simply went missing. Doris already had the sleep record that marks when a day ends; three
separate filters were removing it before anything that writes ever saw it. An observed wake now
opens the lived day and the matching bedtime closes it, including a bedtime after midnight, which
used to be filed under the following day.
A complete day with real scenes in it is now written at that length instead of trailing off after
two paragraphs. A genuinely quiet day still stays short. Doris does not invent a wake or a bedtime
it did not observe, and a day still missing one ends at its last real moment.
Also in this update:
The chapter no longer repeats its own date in the writing. You can already see the date on the
page; the journal does not need to say it back to you. Times stay wherever they genuinely place a
scene, but they are part of what happened now: "Dinner began at 7:10 PM", not "At 7:10 PM, dinner
began".
The journal reads less like a log of itself. A review of all 77 chapters on the test phone found an
exact clock in a quarter of all sentences, one chapter with ten clocks in seventeen sentences, and
eighteen complete sentences repeating across different days. Flowing prose now carries at most two
exact times and moves between scenes through what you did. Key Moments still keeps every time and
every event.
The story, the timeline and the evidence now share one reading measure, in a serif that scales with
your text size. Metadata that arrived in capitals from a connected service is set in normal case,
so a chapter opens with its writing.
When the monthly writing allowance runs out partway through a day, the rest of the day still
reaches the page. It did not before: on one day, eighteen of twenty three moments were written
nowhere at all, including a workout, a walk and the journey home. Six recent chapters were repaired
as soon as the fix landed, and no prose was rewritten.
Doris does its repair pass whether or not your photo backlog has finished uploading. On a phone
with a large library, waiting for that backlog meant the nightly pass often never ran.
And Doris is more honest about its own health. Three of its self checks were reporting healthy
about work they had never actually measured: a share card that failed to generate, a writing run
that never started, a caption pass that never ran. They answer truthfully now, the repair pass can
no longer stall on one step and abandon the rest, and the diagnostics screen opens on what is
actually wrong instead of on eight hundred rows.
2.1.4 Sep 3
The place you confirm now stays confirmed.
When Doris asked which place a stay was and you answered, a repair pass could quietly undo your
answer, rename the stay from the address you had typed, and then undo it again. It ran once every
pass, so a correction made by hand could never survive. That is fixed. Your answer is yours, and it
holds.
One visible symptom goes with it: an hour at the gym that showed on Home as Uncategorized, because
the name you gave it had already been deleted by the time the dashboard read it.
Also in this update:
A workout is recognised as a workout. Doris was matching a recorded exercise session against words
that describe places, so most sessions matched nothing and arrived under a generic name. An interval
session now says so, and a workout counts as something you did rather than being outranked by
wherever you happened to be.
Where time was spent now separates what Doris measured from what it inferred. A broad, unconfirmed
match against a saved address is no longer enough to call an hour Home or Work. Time that was
measured but cannot be categorised stays visible as Uncategorized, and the card tells you how much
of the day was measured and that gaps are not estimated. Two reports of one visit are now one visit.
Your chapter keeps its own ending. A background repair had been pasting timestamped check-in
receipts onto the end of the day's story. Those belong in Chapter Details, under Evidence, and that
is where they stay.
What you write about how you felt now reaches the page. Your own words about a mood were being
stored and never handed to the writing, so a day could read as though you had said nothing.
Doris can notice you arriving at places you have already named, without the app being open.
And Doris no longer spends the day's writing allowance on attempts that cannot succeed, so more of
it is left for chapters that can be written.
2.1.3 Aug 25
Doris opens again, and the day's record no longer invents a time or a place.
A repair pass was running in full every time the app started, holding it for as long as 43 seconds.
That is long enough for iOS to decide the app has stopped responding and close it. The pass now runs
off the launch path, and it is bounded, so it finishes instead of stalling partway and leaving
chapters unrepaired.
Also in this update:
Your step and distance totals describe the whole day, and now read that way, instead of claiming the
single moment Doris happened to read them. The previous update's notes said this was fixed. It was
not. It is fixed here.
A workout is kept as its own record, with its real start and end time, the activity, and the
distance. Before this it survived only as a number inside a daily total, so a morning at the gym
could disappear from the day entirely.
The work or home address you type into About You is only used to place you when it can be matched
precisely. If the map can narrow it no further than the city, Doris leaves it unplaced and asks,
instead of recording you somewhere you have never been. That is what put one reader near a pier they
had never visited, while the day they really were at work was labelled with a neighboring business.
A place Doris works out from your typed address is no longer stored as though you had confirmed it
yourself. It is offered for you to confirm or correct.
A chapter no longer carries a place or an hour that the evidence behind it does not support.
2.1.2 Aug 23
Your chapters now say the hour things actually happened.
A calendar entry is imported before the event, so its time sits in the future. Doris was reading that
as an error and overwriting it with the moment it noticed, which moved appointments to the wrong part
of the day and could put a time on the page that nothing in your day supports. A 1:45 PM appointment
could be written up as the middle of the morning.
That is fixed, the affected times are repaired, and any hour a chapter cannot support is now withdrawn
from the page rather than left standing.
Also in this update:
A mood check-in is written at the time you answered it, instead of a point midway between the reminder
and your reply.
A day's step and distance totals no longer carry an invented clock time. They describe the whole day,
and now read that way.
When you correct a place, you can always type a name Doris does not suggest. That was previously
hidden whenever Apple Maps returned anything at all, which is exactly when a place it has never heard
of needs typing.
The progress percentage on a chapter still being written no longer disappears for the rest of the
session after one tap, and its card is legible.
2.1.1 Aug 20
Doris 2.1
Gentle photo nudges. On an active day that still has no picture, Doris offers a soft prompt to capture one. The prompts change with the time of day and never read the same way twice. Take the photo and it slips straight into that day's chapter.
An honest "still forming." A chapter that is still coming together now shows a calm progress card as Doris finishes weaving the day, so you always know when a chapter is truly done.
Fix a place in one tap. When a moment shows the wrong location, tap to search and set the right spot right from the chapter, with a map to confirm it.
A cleaner home. A refreshed layout with quick capture always within reach.
Smoother and steadier throughout, with tidier syncing and fewer background interruptions.
2.1 Aug 19
Your memoir now exports as a real book. Save it as a PDF and you get a title page, a contents list with real page numbers, every chapter opening its own page, and your photographs printed at full quality, laid out two to a row beside the words they belong to.
Doris also opens faster and holds together better. The evidence colouring behind each chapter is rebuilt when you open the app rather than waiting for the middle of the night, and a repair pass that could stall a launch is now bounded.
Also fixed: a night in bed is no longer reported as hours of sleep, chapters no longer print the same section three times, and a place you never confirmed no longer appears in your story.
2.0.4 Aug 13
This release is about speed, and about Doris being honest with you.
• The journal is dramatically faster. Opening it, switching tabs and moving between days were slow because Doris was quietly building every single day of your journal each time — not just the one you were reading. Now it builds only the page you are on and the ones either side. Measured on a real iPhone: moving between days went from 357ms of frozen screen to 41ms.
• Scrolling and tapping no longer stutter every few seconds. A background housekeeping pass was rewriting your entire journal to disk every ten seconds, even when nothing had changed. It now writes only when something actually changed.
• The navigation bar reads as one control again, instead of icons scattered across the bottom of the screen.
• Doris no longer says you went cycling when you walked fast. A 7–20 km/h door-to-door average is equally consistent with a shuttle, a taxi in traffic, or a brisk walk that paused, so Doris now says "travelled" unless a recorded workout backs the claim. Days already written this way are corrected too.
• Your photos no longer get described at the wrong time of day. A caption that said "late-day light" under a 6:24 AM photograph now simply says "light" — Doris drops the part it cannot support rather than inventing a different one.
• When a detail is withdrawn, the chapter that quoted it is corrected as well, so the story and the evidence behind it always agree. This works with no internet and no AI allowance left.
• "Where was this?" now shows the photo and what it was, so you can tell which moment Doris is asking about.
• Doris Premium is now $4.99/month. The 1-week free trial for eligible new subscribers is unchanged.
2.0.3 Aug 10
Fixes found by running Doris on a real iPhone and reading the server's own logs.
• Your photos stop re-queuing themselves for rewriting. A day now counts as "you tagged someone" only when you actually did — the automatic photo pass was being mistaken for your edit, so ordinary days kept asking to be rewritten. That is what made the app feel busy and slow.
• Your written chapters are no longer replaced by the plain factual version. When a photo imported after a chapter was written, Doris treated the chapter as untrue and overwrote your prose with the mechanical fallback. Missing a late detail is out-of-date, not untrue — the chapter is refreshed instead of replaced.
• Photo restore keeps working after a failed backup. Restoring is how images come back after a reinstall, and a backup problem was blocking it exactly when it was needed.
• Signing in no longer hammers the subscription check.
• Doris recovers on its own if its AI allowance frees up early, instead of staying quiet.
• Moving around the app is quicker.
2.0.2 Aug 1
Your journal now fits every screen, stays where you left it, and runs lighter.
• Everything fits your screen. On the largest iPhones, Home could run past the edges — the logo, your stats, the map and today's reflection are now held neatly within the screen, and the same care carries through sign-in, setup and every settings page.
• Smoother and lighter. Doris now does far less quiet background work once your day is already written, so the app stays responsive, warms up less, and is easier on your battery.
• Tabs keep their place. Moving between Home, Journal and Settings no longer throws away the page you were reading, where you had scrolled to, or what you had open.
• A calmer Journal. One title, date-led navigation with a Contents list, a single Listen control, and Poster, Share and Edit gathered into one menu, so your memoir reads like a book instead of a report.
• Chapters survive an interrupted write. A chapter composed on the server is now always readable in the app afterwards, instead of occasionally reopening empty.
• Photos stay honest. A photo sits beside a paragraph only when the match is genuine; anything uncertain stays in the gallery, and no photo is quietly dropped from a day.
• Exporting is lighter. Markdown and PDF exports of photo-rich chapters build page by page in the background, so the app stays responsive and large journals no longer strain memory.
• Fixed: a brief hiccup when checking your subscription could show the paywall to an active subscriber.
• Fixed: a place you had named yourself could be overwritten, making an edit look like it had vanished.
• Fixed: after a heavy AI day, chapter writing could stay unavailable for days. It now recovers within a day.
• Larger, easier tap targets on the map and photo-tagging controls.
2.0.1 Jul 30
Your day, including how you moved through it.
• Journeys — Doris now recognises when you walked, cycled, travelled or flew between places, and weaves it into your chapter. Moving around your home or office is not treated as travel.
• Chapters compose reliably again — a mismatch between the app and the writing service could stop chapters being written. Fixed.
• Subscribers are no longer shown a paywall they have already paid for if the store is slow to confirm.
• Photos sit correctly alongside the prose that describes them, and the journal scrolls faster.
• Fixes to music, timekeeping and account handling so your chapters describe what actually happened.
2.0 Jul 25
Accuracy and reliability improvements to your chapters.
1.9 Jul 21
Stability and reliability improvements.
1.8 Jul 19
Doris now writes only what really happened. Photo captions follow the evidence — a scene you photographed reads as your own moment, while a photo someone sent you is never narrated as if you were there. Your persona shapes the voice of your story without inventing events for your day.
Every question Doris asks now names the exact time it's about ("2:15 – 4:20 PM"), so you always know which part of your day you're confirming.
While a chapter is still being written, your journal now shows the day as it happened — your real timeline with photos in place — instead of a waiting screen. Summary and Key Moments lead each finished chapter.
Also: faster and more reliable syncing, smarter behavior when the writing service is busy, and a fix for a crash during photo processing.
1.7 Jul 18
Doris keeps getting more honest and more alive:
• Your memoir now includes your photographs — woven right beside the words.
• The words you screenshot flow into your journal automatically. No uploads.
• Connect the apps you actually use — Spotify is here, and connecting truly asks permission first.
• Insights about your life, edit any chapter in your own words, and calmer notifications you control.
1.5 Jul 14
What's new in 1.4:
• Your photos now lead with the people in them, then the places, then everything else.
• Tell Doris "that's not me" and your story updates instantly — the journal describes the photo instead of speaking as you.
• A smoother journal — faster day-to-day paging and crisper photos.
• Together: if sharing is ever revoked, the shared moment leaves both journals.
• Behind-the-scenes reliability improvements and more truthful self-checks.
1.4 Jul 13
What's new in 1.3:
• Your profile photo now stays put — a photo you upload (or one from your sign-in) is saved reliably and no longer disappears.
• When you tag who is in a photo, their name is now woven naturally into your journal story instead of shown as a label.
• More reliable journaling and syncing, with behind-the-scenes network and stability fixes.
1.3 Jul 12
Doris now recognizes the real events behind your day, like a street fair or a concert, and writes them into your story by name.
Your journal picks up the feeling of each moment from your day's rhythm: the thrill at the fair, the calm of a long lunch with friends. Never numbers, just your story.
Tag friends and family in a photo and Doris weaves their names into that day's chapter. It's one tap now: open a photo and tap Who's this?
Smarter photo choices: chapters lead with the people, places, and things that mattered most.
A fresh daily prompt on Home invites you to capture today.
Plus reliability improvements across sync, captions, nudges, and diagnostics.
1.2 Jul 12
Doris 1.1 — your story, sharper.
• CAPTURE MOMENT: one clear button on Home to catch the moment in front of you.
• "Capture a moment in Doris" — Siri and Shortcuts can now open capture or add a note straight into today's chapter.
• Voice notes: import a recording and Doris transcribes it on your device — your spoken words become part of the story.
• Reminders can join your chapters — titles and due times only, with your permission.
• People Recognition during first sign-up: private and on-device, so Doris never narrates someone else as you.
• Location Precision: street-level place context for your private story (your exact address never appears in prose).
• Mood check-ins through the day — your answers shape each chapter's tone and your persona.
• Tag ME / NOT ME on journal photos; the day re-narrates in the right voice.
• Group and action shots now lead your chapters, placed inline with the moments they narrate.
• About You right after sign-up, with address autocomplete for Home, Work, and meaningful places.
• Every setting in one Settings tab.
• Reliability: hardened networking, cleaner sync, and subscription improvements. Doris Premium (auto-renewable, $9.99/month; first month $4.99) is required to generate AI-written chapters.
1.1 Jul 11
Your journal, with clearer context and easier reading.
• Weekly and monthly themes now use familiar topics instead of raw place names. Feeling themes come only from emotions you recorded.
• More natural memoir writing preserves chronology, your wording, and the difference between an experience and a later reflection.
• Clearer location settings explain foreground, background, precise, and approximate access.
• Improved Home layouts, collapsed photo details, and opening the newest readable journal book.
• More reliable place corrections and Undo, photo recovery, image recognition, and export feedback.
