Offline Files
Search all volumes offline
Only for Mac
$9.99
Offline Files helps you search, browse and reconnect files across all your drives, even when a drive is offline.
Catalog internal, external and network volumes, then find files later by name, type, size, dates, Finder Tags and metadata. Results show which drive contains the file, so you know exactly what to reconnect.

- Technical errors no longer open blocking dialogs. Catalog and background-processing problems appear as compact notifications with expandable details.
- Recovery now matches the problem: damaged catalog layers can be repaired or rescanned, background metadata, Smart Analyze and thumbnail work can be retried, and the affected volume is clearly identified.
- Repeated per-file metadata, analysis and thumbnail failures are grouped into summaries instead of repeated popups. Small thumbnail failures stay quietly available in General Settings.
- Thumbnail generation now tries fallback methods, limits repeated retries, keeps a persistent list of affected paths and clears entries automatically after success.
- Improved localization and notification sizing, plus fixed SQLite connection accumulation during Settings refreshes that could exhaust file handles and make thumbnails disappear.

- Menu bar search stays close at hand, with quick all-drive lookups that open results in the full app.
- Search now suggests inline autocomplete matches while you type.
- New widgets keep drive status visible from the desktop or Notification Center.
- The list view has been refined with calmer rows, clearer hover actions and better online/offline media behavior.
- Metadata indexing has been overhauled: metadata, thumbnails and Smart Analyze now show clearer status and store more useful facts for list views and search.
- Overview can now sort drives by name or free space and remembers the chosen sort mode.
- General Settings have been reorganized so everyday options are easier to scan and developer/debug tools stay out of the way.
- Includes additional bug fixes and visual polish.
1.30 Jul 9
- A new Product Tour introduces the main window after first setup and can be replayed from Settings anytime.
- Search Results now show favorite state directly, so starred files remain visible when searching across volumes.
- All Files, Favorites and Smart Album detail views now handle paged loading more consistently, reducing stale results when filters, sorting or searches change quickly.
- Smart Analyze category detail views now support the same sorting controls used elsewhere, while the category overview stays focused on category counts.
- The Groups and External Volumes sections in the sidebar can now be collapsed and expanded from their section headers.
- External ExFAT drives and SMB shared catalog folders now create and restore access bookmarks more reliably, reducing "Create Bookmark" failures when adding drives or choosing shared database locations.
- Includes general bug fixes, refresh improvements and visual polish across the app.
1.29 Jun 11
- Dropbox, iCloud Drive, Google Drive and OneDrive can now be detected and added as opt-in external volumes.
- The plus button now opens an in-app Add Volume sheet with connected drives, detected cloud storage and previously added offline drives.
- Bookmark repair appears in Add Volume only when a known external or cloud volume needs access again.
- Volumes now has a redesigned overview with clearer total capacity, file-type breakdowns, online/offline/cloud indicators and compact drive cards.
- The same drive cards are now used in the menu bar overview, including cleaner storage bars and direct navigation to the selected volume.
- File-type colors are more distinct, making photos, videos, audio, documents and other files easier to tell apart at a glance.
- Drive notes stay compact by default, support richer editing when focused, and keep card sizes stable.
- Analytics now reuses the same overview data model more consistently, with fewer duplicate panels and faster switching for large catalogs.
- Cloud drives show indexed data instead of misleading used-space values when macOS cannot provide real capacity information.
- The Duplicates view has more breathing room, softer count and size badges, extension badges and cleaner one-line metadata.
- File Browser now shows folder sizes more consistently in folder lists where indexed sizes are available.
- File Browser, All Files, Search Results, Favorites, Groups and Smart Albums now share one bottom selection bar with thumbnails, Finder-opening breadcrumbs, copy-path and consistent action buttons.
- Spotlight handling, sidebar scrolling, cloud bookmarks, localization, accessibility labels and several smaller visual polish issues were improved.
1.28 Jun 2
- Search has been reworked and the filter bar redesigned, with a better layout and simpler controls.

- And more.
1.27 May 20
- Drive Health Beacon. Optional macOS notification when a drive hasn't been connected for a while (3 / 6 / 12 months, or Never). Default Never. Useful as a reminder to verify offline backups are still readable.
- Search "name-only" mode (filter bar and Settings → Search). Restricts matches to file names, so a folder name in the path no longer pulls every contained file into results.
- Exclusion operator: prefix any term with a minus to exclude. Example: `vacation -draft`.
- Relevance sort: with an active query, results sort by best match by default. Picking another sort order stays sticky.
- Volumes overview redesigned. Per-category cards (Photos / Videos / Audio / Documents / Other) under the donut chart, with kind badge and last-scan date next to the volume name. The menu-bar popover uses the same layout.
- Shared catalogs are more robust on flaky NAS connections: drives are greyed out instead of erroring, a one-click reconnect toast appears when macOS invalidates the shared-folder bookmark, and clearing the shared folder copies catalogs back to local storage first so no drive disappears.
- Shared thumbnails across Macs. Thumbnails generated on one Mac are now mirrored to the shared folder and consumed by others without regeneration. Existing local thumbnails are backfilled to the shared root once on launch.
- Crash in the menu-bar volumes popover on macOS Tahoe.
- Network drives no longer appear twice in the sidebar after Remove. Cleanup runs automatically on first launch.
- Repeated "Resolve Bookmark: File exists" and "Cannot connect to server" alerts on SMB re-mounts are silenced in favour of silent retry.
- Stop button now reacts immediately while scanning large NAS volumes.
- Stale bookmarks after upgrading from 1.25 or reinstalling from the App Store are silently refreshed on launch. If a connected drive's bookmark is broken, the Grant-Access banner appears instead of an empty index.
- Spotlight now indexes shared catalogs automatically. Previously a shared volume from another Mac stayed invisible to Cmd+Space until the Spotlight toggle was turned off and on.
- Hold-to-repeat arrow-key navigation in lists. Holding up/down now scrolls continuously instead of stepping once and beeping.
1.26.1 May 8
