Receipt scanning is now faster and more accurate. We've upgraded our scanning engine to better read abbreviated item names, handle store discounts and savings rows correctly, and improve recognition across major grocery chains including Walmart, Kroger, Costco, Target, and more. Bug fixes and performance improvements.

Introducing Scan Receipt Import. Photograph a grocery receipt and MealCost will extract your items, prices, tax, and discounts automatically. Review and edit everything before saving. Your first 5 imports are free, with additional packs available as a one-time purchase. Give it a try and see if it works for you! Insights has been reorganized and expanded. A new Most Affordable Meals section ranks your top 10 cheapest meals by cost per serving, filterable by home cooked or dining out and by month, year, or all time. A new Savings and Discounts chart shows how much you save by store when importing receipts. Quick Insights has been redesigned with a stats card grid showing meals logged, average cost per serving, grocery spend, and tip percentage at a glance. Non-food items on receipts are now automatically classified and can be toggled in or out of your grocery totals from Settings. Various bug fixes and performance improvements throughout.

Insights are now free for everyone with a rolling 30 days of data. Pro unlocks unlimited history and long-term trends. We also updated in-app help and upgrade messaging to better reflect what’s included in Free and Pro.

Added the option to choose when your week starts within the More Tab (Sunday or Monday). Weekly charts and “this week” summaries now follow your Sunday or Monday start preference. Improved accuracy of Insights trends and Dashboard metrics, along with bug fixes and performance improvements.

INTERNATIONAL CURRENCIES ARE HERE: This update introduces international currency and number format support. You can now choose your currency and regional number format in the More Tab, including formats that use commas for decimals such as 5,99. Currency changes now update instantly across the app so Dashboard, Meals, Receipts, and Insights all reflect your selected currency and format. This update also fixes issues with decimal entry in some regions and improves currency formatting in charts, totals, and budget fields. Additional stability improvements and bug fixes included.

NEW CHART, TAXES PAID: This update introduces Taxes Paid tracking. You can now enter sales tax on both grocery receipts and dining out meals, and taxes are included in your total meal cost. A new Taxes Paid chart has been added to the unlock Insights tab, allowing you to view tax totals by week, month, or year. You can toggle between All, Grocery, or Eating Out to better understand where your tax spending is coming from. Sample data has also been updated to include realistic tax amounts for clearer charts.

This update makes your monthly numbers clearer and more accurate. Cost per serving now uses consistent calendar month data across the app, so Dashboard, Budget, and Insights always match. The Home vs Eating Out comparison has been redesigned to better highlight how much more dining out costs per serving. We also improved chart smoothing and visual polish.
