It opens the app with the code already filled in, and your person sees your name and photo before joining, so they know it’s really you. While you wait, there’s a canvas ready. Your snaps just learned a new trick: animated illustrations. Pick from 21 cute little characters and send one along with your drawing or photo — it comes to life on the canvas, in your gallery, and right on your person's home screen widget. Choosing an overlay is nicer now too. The little dots under the canvas are gone — in their place, tappable chips for message, greeting, weather, location, clock, and the new Animated mode, so you can jump straight to the one you want. There's a little celebration now when you unlock premium, and a limited-time yearly deal that might just pop up for you and your person. Keep an eye out. Sending from the mascot tab is quicker, you'll get a friendly heads-up when you're down to your last free snap of the day, and the canvas no longer jumps to the editor while you're taking a photo. Snaps can carry a place now. Take a photo, swipe to the new Location tag, and it shows the street and city you're in, so your person knows where you were when you missed them. Both cameras fire at once now. Your face and whatever you're looking at, in the same photo. Line up your shot and the second camera tucks into the corner, rounded so it nests into the canvas. What you see in the preview is exactly what gets saved. Snap it and it goes straight to your person, into your shared gallery and onto the widget like always. Draw on it, drop it into a Share card, or just let it sit there being cute.

Your gallery just got a Share button. Tap it on any snap and a new editor opens up. Your photo lands inside a 9:16 Polaroid frame, with the post’s tag (greeting, clock, or custom message) and your name, date, and time printed in the white space below. Add washi tape across the top if you feel like it, or skip it. Pick from a few gradient backgrounds, or pick your own solid color. Everything updates live while you fiddle. Film grain, a small ‘Made with Long Distance’ mark, export as PNG through the share sheet. Send it to your person, post it on stories, set it as a lock screen, whatever you want.

Realtime Canvas now includes coloring templates. Pick a page, color together live, and watch every stroke show up instantly for your person. We also tightened reconnect behavior and in-canvas controls, so sessions feel steadier when you jump back into the app.
