■ New features - Auto Bookmark. Turn it on in Settings > Reader Screen, and one bookmark follows the page where you stop in each book. - Double-Tap Bookmark. Also in Settings > Reader Screen: double tap an EPUB page to bookmark it, or to remove its bookmark. - Go to page in EPUB books. Tap the page number at the bottom of the screen to jump straight to a page. EPUB pages now count from 1. - Favorite fonts. Tap the star beside a font to add it to Favorites, at the top of the Fonts sheet. - Select across pages. Hold a selection handle at the edge of an EPUB page and the page turns, so a highlight can run onto the next one. Switch it off in Settings > Text Selection Menu > Turn Pages While Selecting. - Last Read Date for Calibre. Calibre Mapping can send the day you last read a book to a date column on your server. - Search in Settings. Tap a row again to clear it, tap more tags to narrow further, and your most used tags come first. - The Tags sheet switches between Most Used and Alphabetical with one tap. - While you hold a margin slider, a guide on the page shows where the margin falls. - The dictionary has a Saved Words button, and Go to book marks the word on its page. - Edit Book shows where the book's file is, with a button that opens it in Files. - The Roadmap shows developer answers, and a switch stops developer messages from opening by themselves. - Hardcover links a book by itself when a title and author search finds exactly one match. - The Collections sheet is always ready to edit: drag to reorder, tap a name to rename it. - The Library's length filter now reaches at least 1,000 pages. - A refreshed app icon. ■ Fixes - Chapter titles and other text that a book sets in bold now show in bold. - Select All picks only the books on screen, so a bulk action never touches books a filter hides. - A filter that matches nothing shows No Matching Books instead of an empty screen. - The alphabet index reaches #, accented letters, Cyrillic and CJK. - The sync indicator on Home and Library opens Sync History. - PDF follows Show Top Status Bar. - Comics no longer fill the History strip. - A page that already has a bookmark no longer gets a second one. - Calibre no longer marks unchanged books as Changed after a server restart. - Authors such as Thomas à Kempis are filed under their surname. ■ Localization - JustRead is now in Simplified and Traditional Chinese, and all the new text is natively translated across all 20 supported languages.

■ New features - Group Series. Turn on Group Series in the Library's Display sheet and every series collapses into one cover with its reading progress. Tap it to see the books. Search groups them too. - Sync with Hardcover. Connect your Hardcover account in Settings. Reading status, progress, ratings and reviews travel both ways. Books with an ISBN match on their own, the rest wait in a list you go through once, and a book you finish asks to be matched right away. You can write a review in Edit Book. - Calibre Highlights. Turn on Highlights and Bookmarks in the Calibre connection, and the highlights, notes and bookmarks in your EPUB books sync both ways with your Calibre server. - Folder Collections. If your library arrived sorted into subfolders, tap Folder Collections in the Collections menu. Each top-level folder becomes a collection with its books. ■ Improvements - The app is now called JustRead. - Numbered titles sort by value, so Volume 2 comes before Volume 10. - Covers are stored sharper, so Medium and Large grid tiles stay crisp. - The Library is titled after the collection it is narrowed to. - The download is about 12 MB smaller. ■ Localization - All the new text is natively translated across all 18 supported languages.

■ New features - Saved Words. Tap + in the dictionary to keep a word with the page you read it on. Saved Words on Home lists your words by book or by date, and they sync to your other devices. - Correct how a name is read aloud. In Settings > Reading > Pronunciation, add a word and spell how it sounds. Every voice says it that way in every book. - Name your highlight colors. In Settings > Highlight Colors, call a color Vocabulary or Quotes. The name shows when you tap a highlight and under it in Highlights & Notes. - Collections and tags in the sidebar. On iPad, tap a collection or tag in the sidebar to show only its books in the Library. Display in the Home menu can hide either list. ■ Improvements - Section headings and the author, tags and progress under your books are darker in light mode, so they are easier to read. ■ Localization - All the new text is natively translated across all 18 supported languages.

■ New features - Apple Pencil on iPad. Drag it across words to select them. In Settings > Apple Pencil, Drag Across Text can highlight, look up or translate right away, and a double-tap or squeeze can turn the page. While Drag Across Text is on, swipe pages with your finger. - Remove from In Progress. Press and hold a book to take it off the In Progress shelf without deleting it. It keeps its progress and comes back when you open it again. - Search this chapter. Tap This Chapter above the search results in a book to search only the chapter you are reading. - Reading speed by language. When your books come in more than one language, a menu on the Reading Speed card shows the speed for each one. - Convert MOBI with Calibre. A MOBI or AZW3 book on your Calibre server now appears in Calibre Books with a Convert badge. Tap it, and Calibre makes an EPUB on the server, ready to sync. - Update Calibre when you close a book. Turn on Send After Closing a Book in Calibre Mapping, and your progress goes to Calibre a few seconds after you close a book. - Extra-large widgets. On iOS 27 and iPadOS 27, the Currently Reading and Reading Calendar widgets come in extra-large and tall extra-large sizes, now also on the iPhone Home Screen. ■ Improvements - Japanese books written vertically now turn page by page from right to left, like a printed book. - Reading speed now counts pages in EPUB books only, the same books its reading time comes from. If you read many PDFs or comics, it can be lower than before. - A Grimmory book in several formats shows each one, and the format filter picks which file you download. BookOrbit books show a chip for each format. - Calibre Books, Grimmory Books and BookOrbit Books leave the menus while their server can't be reached, instead of showing grayed out. - Tap the lit star in a book's Details again to remove its rating. - A Switch to lifetime topic in Help explains how to move from a subscription to the lifetime purchase. Subscribers also find it in the Home menu. ■ Fixes - A picture as tall as the page no longer splits across two pages, and Invert Images now inverts all of it. - Code in programming books is no longer centered line by line and keeps its indentation. - The first highlight on a PDF page shows up right away. - Text selected in a PDF stays marked while you pick a highlight color. - On iOS 27, PDF pages no longer jump or shrink when you show the reader controls. - Syncing books from Calibre no longer makes every library scan read your unopened Calibre books again and undo your edits to them. - The average and trend on the Reading Speed card update again after you read. - On iPad, the Library toolbar no longer lands on a second row under the tab bar after a cold launch. - On iOS 27, reader and audiobook sheets in iPhone landscape no longer run off the top of the screen. ■ Localization - All the new text is natively translated across all 18 supported languages.

■ New features - Keyboard support on iPad. Arrows, Space, Page Up and Page Down turn pages in every reader, and a menu bar puts the tabs, Search, Import from Files and the whole Book menu on Command shortcuts. Hold Command in a book to see the list. - BookOrbit. Connect a BookOrbit server from the Library ••• menu, download its books, and keep progress, highlights, notes and bookmarks in step in both directions. Your reading sessions go to its statistics. - Calibre virtual libraries. The title of the Calibre Books sheet is now a menu that shows one virtual library from your server. When you sync, you pick which of them become collections. - Filter by author. The library filter sheet gains an Authors section, a searchable list with a count for every author, where you include or exclude any of them. - Audiobooks from Calibre. M4B, M4A, MP3, AAC and FLAC now download from a Calibre server, and an Audiobooks only filter finds them. A book that also has an EPUB or PDF still downloads that. - Single sign-on for Grimmory. A server that signs its users in through an identity provider now offers a Sign in button in the connection sheet. - Dim only the book. Settings > Reading > Reader Screen gains Brightness Applies To, set to Whole Device or This App Only. On This App Only the slider on the screen edge dims the page instead of the device. ■ Improvements - The library, Home, search and statistics are faster. - Books open faster, and the images inside a book stay ready for the next time you open it. - Covers load faster in lists and in Calibre. - Two imports at the same time keep both books. - Deleting a book no longer removes it from your statistics. A book you read keeps its cover there and still counts as finished. ■ Fixes - Highlights that arrived from another device are drawn again. - The highlight menu keeps all its buttons on screen. - A book opened from a widget or Spotlight while the app starts now opens. - Editing a book while the metadata scan runs keeps your changes, your reading status and your own cover. - An interrupted database restore recovers at the next launch. - Read Aloud and the audiobook player no longer take the playback controls from each other. - The subscription screen recovers when prices fail to load. - Highlights exported as PDF no longer cut off long text. - A large book from a Calibre server downloads to the end instead of stopping partway. - OPDS paging, incomplete downloads and selecting several Grimmory books at once are fixed. ■ Localization - All the new text is natively translated across all 18 supported languages.

■ New features - Grimmory. Connect a self-hosted Grimmory server from the Library ••• menu and it does five things at once: browse and download its books with their metadata, send books to it, keep reading status, ratings and progress in step both ways, sync highlights, notes and bookmarks with its Notebook in both directions, and post your reading sessions to its statistics. Signing in also sets up KOReader sync for you. Grimmory 3.1 or newer. - Customizable reader toolbar. Settings > Reading > Reader Toolbar shows, hides and reorders the buttons under a book, separately for EPUB, PDF, comics and audiobooks, with one icon size slider and a live preview. Hidden buttons keep their keyboard shortcuts. - Delete several books at once. Select books in the Library and tap Delete: one confirmation with the count, and everything waits 30 days in Recently Deleted. - Update Metadata from File. A row above Delete in the book menu reads the title, authors, series, tags, description and cover again from the file itself, replacing your edits and keeping progress, highlights and bookmarks. - Show covers only. A switch under Display in the Home menu draws every shelf on Home as cover art alone. - Book Sources. Library Display gains Show Calibre, Show Grimmory and Show OPDS switches, so a source you do not use leaves the menus without disconnecting anything. - 0.05x speed steps. The audiobook and Read Aloud speed sheets open with a stepper between the presets, and the CarPlay speed button cycles to the next preset above. ■ Improvements - An EPUB counts as finished when its last page is on screen rather than at a percentage, so short books are finished too and no book is finished early after its file was replaced. - Hyphens now works while Publisher Style is on, so long words break in a book that keeps the publisher's formatting. - Image-only pages, such as scene-break ornaments and chapter glyphs, stay centered when Publisher Style is off. - The Sync with KOReader & Kobo help topic now shows Calibre's Kobo driver settings tab by tab, with screenshots, and a Setup guide link in the KOReader settings opens it. - Get Free Books reads OPDS Books once you have added a server of your own, and Display sits right under Select in the Library menu. - The Day and Night presets follow light and dark mode only when you set them to. The 4.4 update wired both by itself, which flipped the theme chosen in onboarding, so untouched presets are back to Manual. - The tap area outline is off by default and, when shown, says where in Settings to turn it off. ■ Fixes - A PDF whose table of contents loops no longer crashes the app, and a book that crashed while opening is no longer reopened at every launch. - The library shows a PDF's real page count instead of its file size in kilobytes, and the page it shows for a PDF or comic is the one the reader is on. - Cancelling the metadata scan no longer removes the books it was still reading. - Opening a very long book no longer runs out of memory while building its chapter map. - A word set in small caps at the start of a paragraph is no longer drawn as a drop cap. - Tapping the widget for the book already open no longer closes and reopens it, or turns a landscape book back to portrait. - On iPad, the reader's custom color picker opens in place at full height instead of closing itself the moment it appeared. ■ Localization - All the new text is natively translated across all 18 supported languages.

■ New features - Sync with KOReader & Kobo. Your reading position follows you between justread and any e-reader running KOReader, a Kobo included, in both directions. Connect the official KOReader sync server, your own, or a Grimmory library in Settings > KOReader, and the page you stopped on is waiting on the other device. Opening a book asks before it jumps, or jumps by itself if you prefer. The Help Center walks through every route step by step, from installing KOReader to picking a server. - Add-books menu. The + button in the Library opens a menu: Import from Files, Get Free Books, and Calibre Books whenever your server can be reached. ■ Improvements - Read Aloud keeps the spoken word in the middle of the screen in scroll mode, instead of snapping every sentence to the top. - Page counts are computed the way Calibre does it, so a book is the same length here as in the Pages column of your Calibre library. Every book is recounted once after the update. - Hiding the goal card on Home also hides the streak-at-risk banner and the finish confetti. - Filters now stay on the device that set them, so a filter on the iPhone no longer shrinks the library on the iPad. ■ Fixes - A damaged EPUB or comic file no longer crashes the app when it is opened or when its cover is read. - A neural Read Aloud voice that fails part way through preparing a book no longer freezes the app. - The reader's close and rotate buttons follow the book's colors on iOS 18, so a dark book on a light-mode device no longer hides them. ■ Localization - All the new text is natively translated across all 18 supported languages.

■ New features - Auto-Scroll. Books in scroll mode can scroll by themselves at a speed you pick, so you can read hands free. A floating button starts and stops it, and Settings has an Auto-Scroll page. - Backup. Your reading progress, highlights, bookmarks, tags and covers export to a single file you can keep or carry to another device, and import back the same way. - Wikipedia in Look Up. The look-up sheet gained a Wikipedia tab next to the dictionary. It asks the book's own language first, and English if that language has no article. - Instant Highlight. Highlights save straight away in the color you used last. A switch in Settings brings back the old pick-a-color-first flow. - A grace day for your streak. One missed day per calendar month no longer breaks your reading streak, and streaks you already lost that way repair themselves. - PDF passwords are remembered. Unlock an encrypted PDF once and it opens straight away next time, cover and details included. - Audiobook speed and smart rewind. Playback speed carries between books and sessions, and coming back after a break rewinds a few seconds so you can pick up the thread. - Day and Night follow your device. The Day and Night color presets can switch themselves with light and dark mode. - A new name. The app is now justread, all in lowercase. Your books, highlights and progress are untouched. - App Icon. Twelve icons in Settings > Appearance, each a different background behind the same book. - Headings. Chapter headings can take a font of their own, apart from the body font. - Link Style. Links keep their color, drop to the body color with an underline, or read like ordinary text. ■ Improvements - Eye Health Reminders no longer interrupt. The break reminder is a small toast with a countdown instead of an alert you have to dismiss. - Readwise highlights export by themselves when you close a book, once your token is saved. - Calibre Books opens with a bar telling you how many books are new or changed, so syncing them is one tap. - Help search matches hidden keywords, not just topic titles, so a word like voice or trash finds the right topic. - The streak-at-risk banner on Home can switch the evening Streak Alert on right where the warning is. - The library folder moved into Settings, with the current path and a way to change it. - Get Free Books in the library menu says what the OPDS browser is for, and adding a server now accepts a bare address. - Large Calibre libraries appear as they load, and one dropped batch no longer discards the rest. - Daily Reminder and Streak Alert start from the hour you actually read, not a fixed evening time. - Preparing for background listening pauses when the battery gets low, and picks up once you plug in. ■ Fixes - The reader close button could be invisible on a light-mode device with a dark book. - The Lock Screen kept showing the finished chapter after playback rolled into the next one. - The widget streak and goal ring roll over at midnight, and the streak counts today once the goal is met. - A dismissed update banner stays dismissed. - Opening a book file from another app now opens the book, not just the Library tab. ■ Localization - All the new text is natively translated across all 18 supported languages.

■ New features - CarPlay. justRead now shows up in your car. Audiobooks play there, and so do books prepared for Background listening, with covers, reading progress and a speed button on the car screen. - Lock Book. Any book can ask for Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode before it opens. The switch is in Edit Book, and it applies only on that device. - Recently Deleted. Deleted books now wait 30 days before they are gone for good. Restore one and its reading position, highlights, bookmarks and cover come back exactly as they were. - PDFs caught up. Read Aloud now works in PDFs, with the same voices and controls as everywhere else, and the contents sheet gained a Pages tab with a thumbnail of every page. - Search Online. Edit Book can now fetch a missing cover, description and details from Open Library and Google Books. - Continue Reading everywhere. You can ask Siri to open a book or pick up where you left off, and a new Continue Reading control for Control Center and the Lock Screen jumps straight back into your current book. - Daily Pages Goal. Set how many pages a day you want to read, next to the reading time goal. - Daily Reminder and Streak Alert. A reading reminder at the time you choose, and an evening notification when today would break your streak. Both are optional and live in Settings. ■ Improvements - One goal card. The four goal sections on Home merged into a single card, so time, pages, streak and your yearly books goal share one place. - Haptic Feedback. The small vibrations on taps now have a switch in Settings, in case you want them gone. ■ Localization - All the new text is natively translated across all 18 supported languages.

■ New features - Read Aloud in 31 languages. New multilingual voices speak German, French, Spanish and 28 more, on your device and with nothing sent anywhere. - Ten new voices. Five female and five male, and every one of them reads all 31 languages, so you pick a voice rather than a language. - Family Sharing. One subscription now covers your whole family. Turn on Purchase Sharing and everyone in your Family Sharing group gets justRead. - Settings, rearranged. Settings is a short list of pages now instead of one long scroll, and the new gear button on Home opens it. - Chapters in audiobooks. Two or more audio files in one folder come in as a single audiobook, m4b included, and an audiobook that is one m4b file now shows the chapters it carries inside. - Three buttons moved down within thumb reach: Suggest Feature in the Roadmap, the story in Statistics and Settings on Home. - Edge Controls has three modes. The brightness and text size sliders at the page edge can stay visible, stay hidden while the drag still works, or show up only with the toolbar. ■ New features - Toolbar Tap Area. Choose where a tap opens the toolbar in books, comics and PDFs, and drag the area to the size you like. It can also be outlined on the page while the toolbar is open. - Faster Calibre browsing. Your Calibre library opens right away, even with thousands of books, and you can sort, filter and see series and tags. - Line Focus. Step the guide by half a screen with a tap, and come back to the exact line you left. - Link Color. Pick your own link color for each color preset. - Book descriptions. Edit a book's description right in Edit Book. - New Help topics on supported formats, deleting books and the subscription, with search and a way to reach support. ■ Improvements - Books open much faster. Read CBZ and CBR files beside your books, with two-page spreads, double-tap zoom, a page grid, an adjustable page dim, and a reading direction you set per book. - Read Aloud. Any EPUB without its own narration can be read to you, by any Apple voice on your device or by natural English voices you download once and then run offline. The sentence highlights as it is spoken, the pages turn on their own, and speed, sentence skips, a sleep timer and Lock Screen controls are always at hand. - Background listening. Prepare a book in advance and keep listening with the screen off or the app in the background. - Line Focus. Dim the page and keep a guide on the line you are reading. - Audiobooks from anywhere. Import them from Files, drag and drop or Open In, not only from your library folder. FLAC now reads like M4B and MP3, as a single file or as a folder of chapters. - Yearly books goal. Set how many books you want to finish this year and follow the progress from Home. - Wide tables in EPUBs no longer get cut off. They scroll inside the page, or open full screen with pinch to zoom. - Print a book's highlights, and share a PDF highlight as a quote card. - Cover size. ■ New features - Custom book covers. Set or replace the cover for any book, right from its detail screen. Your choice syncs across your devices, and refreshing metadata no longer overwrites a cover you picked by hand. - Abandoned books. Mark a book you have stopped reading as Abandoned. It stays in your library but leaves In Progress, Up Next, the Home quick actions, and the widget, without pretending you finished it. - Exclude filters. Library filters for tags, status, and format are now three-way: off, include, or exclude. Hiding every book with a tag is now as easy as showing only the ones that have it. - Shortcuts and Siri.
