A PERSONAL TRIBUTE
Konjugieren was created by Josh Adams as a tribute to his grandfather, Clifford August Schmiesing (1904–1944).
Cliff was born in Minster, Ohio—a town where German was the language of daily life. All four of his grandparents had immigrated from Germany, and he grew up steeped in that heritage, attending public schools taught by German-speaking nuns. He became a doctor, specializing in obstetrics.
When America entered World War II, Cliff served as an Army doctor, treating soldiers wounded in North Africa, Sicily, and Southern Italy. He died in Oran, Algeria, on January 21, 1944. Josh's mother, Ryan, was just fourteen months old.
Though Ryan never truly knew her father, Cliff's love for his family has echoed through the generations. Following 1.1's redesign, version 1.2 brings a second polish pass across the app. Typography is tighter, micro-interactions for correct and incorrect quiz answers are refined, and iPad layouts now fill the screen instead of crowding the center.
The on-device Apple Intelligence Conjugation Tutor is retuned for users running the app in German. Grammar terminology aligns with the app's German conventions throughout, refusal copy is localized for off-topic questions, and a new explanatory row appears when Apple Intelligence isn't available on your device.
Version 1.2 also adds the Rückumlaut weak verbs: bringen / brachte, denken / dachte, kennen / kannte, brennen / brannte, senden / sandte, which have historically anomalous past-tense conjugations that trip up native and non-native speakers alike.
Bug fixes: the German flag emoji now renders correctly on iOS 26, a rare quiz crash on the dot-row indicator is resolved, an iPad navigation race condition no longer interrupts info browsing, and the bratwurst alternate icon's Settings thumbnail is sharper.
